Episode 3 Women's Six Nations Rugby

The Six Nations is back, and we've come to a windy Dublin to see an

unbeaten Irish team take on the holders, France. The two sides have

shared the title over the last four years, but this time round, England

have also looked strong, so expect a 3-way tussle at the top. Ewan-macro

Scotland and Ireland ( in the Six Nations Championship. They've got

some power behind them when they do get to it. It looks like England who

will be victorious against the French. Oh, so easy for England and

Wales don't know what's hit them. The atmosphere is absolutely buzzing

and its one-way traffic. Ireland do the business and get the bonus

point. Some outstanding rugby in the first two rounds and it Ireland who

lead the way, but controversially they'll be without Hannah Tyrol, who

scored that last-gasp try. She and two of the experienced members of

the backline are out in Vegas for the world sevens series. Coming

up... We'll see if Scotland can get that elusive Six Nations win, as

they take on the Welsh. Ireland go in search of three in a row, but

France are desperate to get their title defence back on track. England

are on a roll, a frightening thought for Italy, who visited the Stoop.

Six months today, and the winners of the women's World Cup will be

crowned up the Road in Belfast and Ireland will certainly be hoping to

be there. Today, it's all about the Six Nations for these expectant

fans, but we start with Scotland. They came so close to win in their

last home game and they returned to Broadwood, to take on a Wales side

looking to bounce back from that defeat at the hands of England.

COMMENTATOR: The 20th minute. Can Wales score off

their first attack? Scotland struggling to defend. Wales are at

their line and it's a try for their skipper, Carys Phillips, her second

try of this year's Six Nations. Wales score off their first attack,

as we reached the quarter mark of the game. Yes, so much better from

Wales, playing in the right areas of the patch. Well done for going for

the line-out, secure hands in the line-out and a great driving maul

and a great score for the captain, Carys Phillips. Parker, Elinor

outside and getting it. A lovely run from Chloe Rollie. Solid with the

tackle. The best run of the game so far from the Scots and the forward

drive to follow it up. Wales a bit disorganised behind. Scotland need

quick ball here. Wales trying to drive around the fringes. They are

allowed to get away with it. Scotland forced to go back to the

pick and go, but really, they might have been looking for quicker ball

there and in the end they paid a price. Chloe Rollie showing how

dangerous she is. She's got lining for work. She managed to sidestep a

few Welsh players there and are very good tackle to stop her on her way

-- she's got lightning at work. Six minutes to half time, as Wales look

for their second score. In it goes. It's going a little bit sideways,

difficult control for Sioned Harries. The referee goes straight

underneath the post for a penalty try. A second try for Wales.

Scotland defending illegally. Sioned Harries comptroller the wall -- ball

well at the back of the scrum, but impingement from Scotland and they

paid a price. Penalty try for Wales. Try here would really bring Scotland

back into it. Maybe Webb reduced the deficit to a single score if it's

converted and give the Scots something to work on in their

half-time team talk. Yes, defending well here at the moment. Lisa

Thomson with the charge, a lovely angle from Lisa Thomson. And the

Edinburgh University Centre is over for Scotland's first try of the

night, just when her country needed it. That's an excellent comeback

from Scotland. They've been so patient. Crashing through the

defensive line, a trifle Lisa Thomson. She is so strong. Scrum V

Albay hour, a lovely off-load and a trifle Rhona Lloyd in the corner. --

way try. It brings Scotland right back into it, just a couple of

points between the two sides. Very well worked by Scotland. It was Jade

Konkel, a lovely off-load with the backhand and a great score in the

corner. Slow ball. It's another penalty and a chance

for Scotland. Will they go for gold? Will they go for the corner? Could

it be a kick to win it? Scotland go for the posts. Yes, and why not?

Three minutes left full stop this could be a winning shot. It's found

the target and Scotland have their noses in front. Scotland have a

famous victory in their sights. Scotland, really good value for

their victory over the last 45 minutes of this game, coming back

from 14-0 down. Absolutely, they came out after that first half just

so energised. They've come here to do the job. There we go, last kick,

into touch, and a victory at home for Scotland. So Scotland, getting

their noses in front, three minutes from time, and holding on for the

victory. Just look at what it means to the whole Scottish side. The

whole Scottish squad and their supporters here in Cumbernauld.

Scotland 15, Wales 14. It means the world to every single one others.

We've worked so hard for it. Sweat and tears. Our team has bonded,

we've gelled, we've got to where we want to be and it goes on from here.

What a result, seven years Scotland have been waiting for a Six Nations

win. They've got one. It came off is a battering against France. It

showed great character to come back from 14-0 down. They were superb, in

possession throughout, in control of the game, went down 14-0 and clawed

it back. A super performance, huge for them. They are scoring tries in

a lot of games and that win is going to give them huge encouragement and

motivation going forward. I heard them were great scenes in the

dressing room after the game. Chloe Rollie, full-back, was a real

danger. She's an exciting young talent. Any time she got the ball

she looked like a thread. It's a worry for Wales, because they'll

have her running back and she has a huge future. She's a young player

and will develop with the rest of the squad as well. It came down to

kicking in the first game against Ireland. It was agonising for Sarah

Law but incredible strength of character could get that kick at the

end and it will give her confidence. I'm sure they were disappointed in

the first game against Ireland which they perhaps should have won want to

be hammered 55 hero -- 55-0 against France. It's a pressure kick. To

stand up and perform under that pressure is immense and that's

character building and it will help them going forward. Great scenes for

Scotland but for Wales, how damaging is that? They have a poor result

against England and then to lose the match against Scotland. They were

highly motivated coming into the competition. They had a friendly

against Ireland which went well. It's being hammered by an impressive

English team, they will have to regroup and focus on Ireland and see

what result they can get in two weeks' time. It was a great night

for Scotland. Let's go to the match at Donnybrook. Tom Tierney's side

had impressed on the road, but they wanted to impress in front of our

home fans here. It wouldn't be easy, facing a French side that ran in

nine tries last time out. Fiona was alongside Royal Nugent in the

Here's the Irish team. I really experienced and combat its second

row. Molloy will play at openside. Helium Stapleton in the half-backs.

You look at Jenny Murphy, who is going to have to leave the line in

what is a relatively inexperienced back five for Ireland -- will lead

the line. The French side are led by their captain, Gail Mignon, who

scored a try against England, also scored a try against Ireland in last

year's game. Jade Le Pesq and Camille Cabalou are half-backs, the

game revolves around the power of the front eight. Options...

Well delivered so far, Sophie Spence desperately trying to get the ball.

Debra Healy pops it out and Ireland, over the line. The referee says no.

France doing so well defensively. That was really good variation by

Ireland. Really good control of recycled ball. Leah Lyons was over

the line, the French player beat her. Back to Stapleton it goes.

There's where the wind is in Ireland's favour. It's blowing in

that direction and overcooked by Stapleton. It got grabbed by the

wind. What it was the last scrum, the Irish flanker was pulled back,

by the French player, who was unable to make a tackle. I cannot tell you

how difficult conditions are here. The wind is blasting through again.

Even the most simple, straightforward passes and

kick-start a difficulty. Stapleton finds her range and Ireland get a

deserved lead, after 11 and a half minutes. 3-0. Spence leading by

McLauchlan, desperation tackle after evading Mairead Coyne. It's the

of the way despite their best efforts. You might be seeing another

That was down to execution. A whole heap of self belief. Really good

variation with the line-out. Sophie Spence at the back, whether maul was

set up and a really good form, tied together, and Lyons goes over to

score. Stapleton's kick was on target. Up

go the flags. Penalty advantage to Ireland. They have a free role.

Fitzpatrick. Ireland will take full advantage. Advantage still near

Ireland. They are three metres away. Muldoon digs it out. Stapleton

almost through. The ball is off-loaded. It has gone to a French

hand but we will come back again for the penalty. On its way, up go the

flags. It is 13-7 to Ireland. N'Diaye is called to go to the more

openside. There is a penalty therefore France and an opportunity

may be to have a kick at goal. This one should be

straightforward for Jessy Tremouliere. The last throw of the

dies. The best two Irish players on the ground and France somehow

managed to throw it behind them. Muldoon is over there and so is the

captain, Fitzpatrick, it has been turned over. Look at those faces.

They tell you everything you need to know, against the odds, Ireland have

done it. They have beaten France at Donnybrook. Amazing win. We knew it

would be the toughest games so far. It was, it was such a physical

battle. We asked beforehand for controlled maniacs only got that.

Their play to the girls. Amazing performance. Incredible scenes at

the end, what a win. It was fantastic. I remember the last time,

it was a tight game and they always drive us. It was a long time coming,

we were not happy with our first games and it is the character of the

girls to rise up and put the statement out that we are a force to

be reckoned with. We were clinical in certain areas and we are

delighted with the result. What impressed you most about the

performance of the girls? They stuck to their strengths. It is a heavy

hitting French pack and I think Ireland bustard and their line-out

was outstanding. It allowed a good attacking platform. It is brilliant.

You got the first two winced, to come here and get a win against

France, how pivotal could that be? It is massive but we have to take it

one game at a time and Wales will be sore after losing to Scotland and

they will be raring to go in Cardiff and they have a home crowd and home

advantage so we have to be on our game. There has been a lot of

discussion about the three backs who were missing. The fact that Ireland

were able to win despite that, what does that say about the depth of

this setup? Obviously the girls stood up and it galvanise them. I

don't think France took advantage of a weak back three in my eyes.

Ireland did not allow them to do it either. I think there are still

issues, but I think the girls answered today. They have huge

hearts and huge commitment. At the end of the tournament, you finish

with England here and that could be some battle. We are here to fight it

out for the title. We want to win the Six Nations. That would be

fantastic but it is one game at a time. Wales are tricky. It has been

tight games in the past. We have to remember that they beat us in

January. They are a dangerous side and particularly now they are a bit

bruise, they will be tricky. We do not want to slip up. Thank you for

London are hoping to get their first points on the board. The first one

dominated by France but England came back superbly. Completely dominant,

running in 11 tries. An absolutely comprehensive and one-sided victory

there is space out there and England may get two in two minutes. From the

are going red card. Surprise from Emily Scarratt. They have continued

to fight in the second half. He wants to have another look at this

tackle. Tiddlywinks, it is not, physical contact. Yes it was

reactionary but you may contact with the players head. It is a yellow

card. A yellow card? Italy still looking for more.

Stefan, tracked down well by Furlan is therefore Italy and Italy have

scored their third try. The ball is kicked out and England have done it.

It is Mission accomplished in terms of the wind. That was amazing, to

get 80 minutes. It was fantastic. I cannot thank the rest of my team

enough for being able to put me over the white line. I have not done that

for a long time. It was really exciting and it was all down to the

forwards and sticking together and working on our processes and that is

what we have been looking all week. Really happy. Good to round out the

win, we were resilient to the end even though it did not always go our

way. So it is England and Ireland who are locked together at the top,

England just ahead on points difference. France with the losing

bonus point are just clear off Wales and Italy are still looking for

their first points. Round four see Scotland face England while Ireland

are in Wales. England keeper only non-but it was not as an impressive

performance as the previous couple of games -- England keep rolling on.

The changes did unsettle the team, they are missing some key players

like Waterman. They needed more time and preparation. Second half, Italy

definitely won the second half. Furlan getting involved in the game.

Some brilliant tries. That was the best performance from Italy against

England. Katie Maclean was so pivotal against Wales and she had a

different impact on things this time, what did you make of the red

card? I thought it was harsh. I thought it was a yellow card. It was

probably a red card. There will be interesting to see how long she is

out. Against Wales, a lot of the tries came from the work of Katie

Maclean, a lot of the backs got involved, but what a day for Vicky

Fleetwood! Is a great day. From a hard-working pack. She is a powerful

and dynamic player. The pack work hard for the molls and it does not

matter who comes with them. Brilliant, history making hat-trick.

Incredible stuff. You mentioned the performance of Italy, what hope will

not give the likes of Scotland? Perhaps this England team can be

stopped. Scotland will be on a high after that performance, they will

still be wary of England, England at full strength will put them to the

sword. You will get change from England if you go hard at them.

Italy kept going and got more strength as the game went on. Thank
