World Championship. The opening session Between and Ding Junhui and

Ryan Day. Commentators Terry Ryan Day. Commentators Terry

Griffiths and Lee Thornton. An intriguing encounter between two

world class players. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad against a Welshman

trying to establish himself as one of the game's greats. He was top of

the world and looked capable of winning any tournament. He is a

wonderful player to watch even though he has lost his way a little

form he had a few years ago. It has deserted him for a little while.

You do not lose your skill, just your belief in it. This season has

not been great. The last 16 in the Welsh Open was his best result. He

used to be a regular in quarterfinals, semifinals and

ranking finals in his career. APPLAUSE. He was wondering how Ding

mac was playing, but after that shot I think he will know that he

is playing very well. How Ryan has not won the World Championships

here it is beyond me. He has everything needed to win it. He won

the Masters of the UK and two of the beat majors. He has been the

best in this tournament to date. -- the big makers. -- the big major

APPLAUSE. Ding Junhui's ranking does not tell the whole story. He

is one of the top four players in the world, some may say little I.

He break builds virtually the same as O'Sullivan and Henry. He does

not miss anything. Peter Ebdon, many years ago, when Ding mac first

came to this country. He said, this young man is going to rule the

world one day. Firstly, I thought we saw plays him make centuries all

the time, but this young man is the real deal. Surprising that he has

not won the World Championship. Some players suit venues more than

others and this may be one of them in his we does not settle. It is

been based in the academy in Sheffield. A lot of people do not

still a legend in China. He is treated like royalty over there,

as the television is concerned. He certainly gets the red carpet

treatment. Memories. Very quickly he has established a 36 point lead.

He has done pretty well. APPLAUSE. Not quite far enough to get the

black into play here, but I am not sure he can miss the kiss on the

red. Trying to come off two cushions for the blue, but he might

catch that red. APPLAUSE. This time he is high enough. This time the

pink will come into play. APPLAUSE. Did not need a lot of pace, added

it perfectly. A lot of players, Terry, I know it is only a small

pack, would have played that firmly. I would much rather see players

break the rate and no way the balls are going, rather than just crashed

into them and hope for the best. As you said, he played that

beautifully. Another player that impressed me with a break the other

day was his mate in the Academy Cao Yupeng, who beat Mark Allen. He

opened them up nicely. Does he practise wits ding? I should think

so. Ding Junhui is undoubtedly one of the game's greats now. He just

needs one more red to pass the line. He wants to make sure he wins the

about that shot. I suppose he is a little bit lucky he has not left a

free ball. Another inch to the left and that would have been a free

ball. If he had just pulled up a couple of inches before. He could

have taken low-value colours and won the frame. This is a horrible

shot. The red is looking at you and you cannot to do the other red

because it might touch it. Very unlucky. Just stopped short.

APPLAUSE. He will be very pleased with that. After missing the ball

in his previous shot, he was under pressure on this one. He had to hit

that red perfectly to find the path. One of the shots that you play of

the top cushion in an exhibition match. If he cannot find a good

safety, he may play that. Given that he does not need Paul big

great chance to win his round. See if he can risk playing a colour of

blackspot, he looks to have the angle. That has not worked out well.

look easy, but when there is pressure on, it is tricky. They can
