Well, when I started off here at the school, by the end,

I got to row at the Junior European Championships - twice.

We got silver and bronze medals there. Um, that was a fantastic experience.

And then, last year, with the university, we got to go

to the World University Championships in an eight, and we got bronze there.

Then this year, I'm hoping to get onto the under-23 Irish squad.

It must have been an advantage to you and the people who grew up with you

that you had this glorious river right on your doorstep.

Oh, it's fantastic. You look at the size of the river and the quality

of the water, I mean, you just don't get that anywhere else.

On days like this, although it's wet and cold,

I mean, the water is like glass. You just can't beat it.

The training that you've been doing has led to a lot of places already -

hopefully it will lead to more places.

What are your future hopes?

Well, long term - hopefully in five years,

I'll get to go to Rio for the Olympics.

Um, that would be the long-term goal.

On the path, hopefully many places over in Europe

for the World Championships,

for Senior World Championships and that kind of thing.

Best of luck with that, but in the meantime, have you any advice for two old codgers like us

that are trying to go the whole way up to Lough Neagh down to Maghery and then on to Benburb?

Don't fall in.

It's too cold.

No, enjoy it. Really enjoy it. It's a fantastic stretch of water.

Plenty of wildlife.

If you see a dark streak of light, that'll be a kingfisher.

And Sammy the seal will probably follow you up, so...

Wait for the knock on the boat and...just enjoy it.
