What if you could live abroad in winter
for the same cost as living in the UK...
-This is priced at 595 per month.
-Is that all?
..by renting a piece of paradise?
Unbelievable! Wow, this is amazing!
You could swap sleet and snow
for sun and sand.
Right, let's go and have a look at some properties.
Get Away For Winter teams up sun seekers
with a local property expert...
Can you see yourself in here?
I can, yeah.
..to find their perfect rental retreat.
It's like you're on holiday all the time.
Together, they'll leave no stone unturned...
This is unbelievable, isn't it?
..in order to find and fund their dream winter getaway.
This is what I was dreaming of and didn't even think existed!
Come winter in London, it's time to get out those woolly hats,
as the average temperature plummets to 6 degrees,
the dark grey skies loom overhead,
and Londoners are lucky if they see the sun for more than an hour a day.
Which is one reason why best friends, Jan and Sally,
are planning a winter getaway to warmer, sunnier climes.
We have been really good friends for about 20 years.
Jan is completely unique, very strong opinions.
-You will know.
And deeply spiritual.
You know, I regard Sally as part of my family,
we've had so much fun together.
We've been through heartbreaks as well, you know,
men and things like that.
But, you know, I can't imagine my life without Sally in it.
These sun seekers are ready to make a much-needed change
to their lifestyle.
The plan is to escape the beauty of London in the winter.
It is freezing.
I just like the brightness that you feel
when it's not a grey, dull day.
And, I guess, you know, emotionally, it just, it's such a lift.
I'm going to be 66 next month. And time is, you know,
it's time for me to leave London
and to live a different life that appeals to me.
Just even being able to sit under the stars
and the moon late at night.
It's just so appealing.
Right arm up.
Exhale over to the left.
Jan cares part-time for her elderly mum.
So she'll be flying in and out of the UK
during her and Sally's two-month stint abroad.
Sally - from Yorkshire, via a spell in Canada - is a yoga teacher.
She and Jan are work colleagues as well as besties.
They develop properties together,
and when Sally founded a summer yoga festival, Jan came on board.
Yoga just changed my life.
I mean, I thought by the 30s you started to decline
and by the 50s you, sort of, you know what I mean, ready to...
I walk around feeling like, as I get older, life gets better.
And so, it feels great! I feel fantastic, you know.
Sexy, fun, healthy.
Yeah, it's just an amazing peace of mind really.
Sally and Jan want somewhere they'll be able to do yoga
outside in the sun, even in the winter.
They'll be funding their getaways with the rental income
generated through their buy-to-lets.
The friends have a very healthy winter sunshine budget
of £3,000 a month.
£2,500 of which is allocated for
accommodation and utility bills.
And where do these friends want to go to stretch out in the sun?
I am just gagging to go to Ibiza.
Sally and Jan want to say bye-bye to those bobble hats...
..and hello sunny beaches!
Before the tiny Spanish island of Ibiza
became the nonstop party paradise we know today,
it attracted a very different kind of traveller.
They were attracted in part
by the beautiful whitewashed villages and vistas.
They still pull in an eclectic mix of visitors today.
The south coast of the island has been developed
into a mainstream tourist hot spot,
while the north remains largely rural.
Properties range here from the very, very VIP luxury villas
to the seaside apartments
and traditional Spanish farmhouses called fincas.
To help Sally and Jan in their quest
to turn on and tune in to a winter on Ibiza
is local property expert, Hattie Scanlan.
Originally from Huddersfield, she moved to the island three years ago,
and combines her passion for photography
with her work as an estate agent.
The demand to live in Ibiza in the winter is growing,
and Ibiza is becoming an all-year-round destination.
Not just a seasonal destination, which is fantastic,
because people can come and experience island life
in all of its glory.
Not just for six months of the year.
This growing demand means that most rental properties are booked up
well in advance, so the prices can rocket.
Hattie is video calling Sally and Jan
to hear their property wishlist
and find who exactly will be joining her on Ibiza for the search.
Hi, ladies, my name is Hattie. How are you?
So, do you guys know anything about Ibiza?
Have you been there before?
I have, I've been there several times.
And Jan hasn't.
-I just know about that.
-OK, so what I wanted to know is, what are the
most important things that you're looking for in your property?
I like either old fincas which have been renovated,
or I like super modern.
I mean, the idea for me is that I get to practise yoga
every day outside.
And I... For me, I'm a total beach bunny,
I love the beach regardless of the time of year, I love it.
And a really peaceful location.
For me, nature is the most important thing.
And the other thing, and this would be the icing on the cake,
it's not vital but, if there was a swimming pool,
this one would be very delighted.
Now I just want to know, which one of you is going to be coming to Ibiza?
-Are you looking forward to it?
Totally. I'm very excited!
I think I've got all the information I need to start our search for
your perfect property in Ibiza.
-I can't wait to meet you and get you on the island!
I can't wait to meet you either!
Sally and Jan's winter getaway will be a life-changing adventure.
So are they excited?
Sally and Jan have budgeted £2,500 per month for accommodation.
They're looking for either a traditional or a modern property,
close to the sea and nature,
and with a swimming pool for Jan, if possible.
On Ibiza, the summer party season has long since passed.
And in winter, the island has something of a more laid-back vibe.
While it may be chilled, it's certainly not chilly.
Sally has flown the two and a half hours south,
and is already blissed out on island life.
I left my house at 3.00 in the morning, and it was minus 1.
I arrived here and it was bright,
and, you know, the seagulls were out,
I love the seagulls.
It just felt like a totally different experience.
It's an immediate difference.
Yeah, it's very uplifting.
Hattie's being driven to pick up Sally.
And she's excited to show the friends the short list of properties.
Sally and Jan did say that they wanted a Spanish-style finca,
but they also said that they'd
go for an ultramodern apartment as well.
So we have four properties that were going to show them,
which is a mix of both of them.
We do have surprises up our sleeve as well.
-The woman in the flesh! How are you?
-I finally get to meet you in person! How are you?
-Great, really good!
-Shall we go look at some properties?
-Perfect, let's go.
Hattie will show Sally and Jan four rental properties that she hopes
meet most of the friends' criteria.
The winter season is already underway,
so finding properties has been a bit of a difficult task,
due to the popularity of Ibiza.
Sally, by the sounds of it, the cold winter London life doesn't seem to
be doing a great deal for you.
How long have you been thinking about coming to Ibiza for?
I've been thinking about it for quite a long time.
Definitely been looking at other places and thinking,
"Would that be right?"
And then I just got a direct...
..download that, "No, it's Ibiza."
-It is, yeah.
At each property, Sally will video call best pal Jan back in Britain,
to get her opinion.
So today, we're going to be taking you to a property in Santa Eularia.
It is a gastronomical and cultural centre of Ibiza.
Lots of yoga projects as well, it's just fantastic.
Santa Eularia, on the east coast of the island,
is ten miles from Ibiza Town.
With its reputation for fine food and cafe culture,
it attracts metropolitan jetsetters from all around the globe.
The palm tree-lined promenade runs the length of the broad sandy beach.
While the exclusive marina is a popular stop
for those cruising the Mediterranean Seas.
The first property is the first floor apartment
in this beach-front building.
Here we are in the Santa Eularia apartment.
Sally's "oh" is all you need to know
that the open living and kitchen area has made
a positive first impression.
The traditional style dining table and chairs sit next to
a sleek and very snazzy gloss black kitchen.
I like the spaciousness, I like the open-plan.
It's cool. And I like the light.
With the view as well, you can get the sunrise light from here as well.
-Which is perfect. The light can come through.
I would be doing yoga on that balcony as the sun comes up.
Next up on Hattie's guided tour
is the bathroom with separate shower.
I like this bathroom, very nice.
So the decor in itself, it just all comes together so nicely.
It's a beautiful freestanding bath.
Yeah, no, I like the bathroom a lot. I love this style of bath.
The apartment is hitting the mark so far,
and has two very roomy bedrooms with built-in storage space.
The master has an en-suite shower room.
The second bedroom has patio doors leading to the balcony
where there's plenty of space to relax
and listen to the waves lapping on the shore.
Or just settle down to soak up the sun.
-So, what do you think, so far?
-I like it.
You know, I could see myself being here.
Yeah. All of the above. And the view is amazing.
And listening to the sound of the waves is incredible.
So, I'd be really interested to know what the price is.
OK. So, the price of this property
is £2,272 per month.
Pounds per month, yes.
OK. So, that is way higher than London,
-which is really interesting to know.
I think you're paying for the view here.
Due to the high demand and late booking,
this apartment can command a high price tag,
and is at the top end of Sally and Jan's budget.
In the UK, the winter weather is hitting hard.
Every week, Jan travels to visit her mother in Swanley, Kent.
My mum is 91.
She's just had a bad fall and had been in hospital for five weeks.
She's had a hip replacement.
While Jan is caring for her mum,
she won't be able to escape this British winter completely,
but she will join Sally when she can,
so she's fully committed to finding her ideal retreat in Ibiza.
Caring for my mum is a top priority.
You know, I love her, and I want her to be safe and protected and,
you know, I can't think of anything that I'd want to do more.
But I want to move towards the next phase of my life.
I want to live in the sun, by the sea, in nature,
and I cannot do that at the moment.
So, I have to make peace with that.
Jan has nipped out to a nearby cafe
for her virtual tour around the first property.
-Hello from Ibiza!
OK, so, get ready, I'm going to show this flat.
-I can't wait.
Oh, very open-plan, that's cool.
Now I'm going to show you the bathroom, and it is great actually
because, when you look at this, there's a big shower.
-Oh, fantastic, yeah.
-You see that?
-And, as you move round, there's a really nice bath.
That looks great.
Inside is a hit,
but how will she feel about that sea view?
This is your view.
The view certainly has the wow factor.
It's amazing. So, it's really near to the beach, that's nice.
It's really near to the beach, yeah. It's like, right there.
Sally's first reactions were great.
She loved the natural light, she loved the space.
The location is good as well, it's right next to the beach.
But, you know, immediately, it's the proximity of other places, you know.
This is what you're talking about.
-That's how close it is to other flats.
So that would actually be a turn-off for me.
Yeah. A turn-off for me, too.
I think they're looking for something a little bit more
surrounded by nature, something a bit more secluded.
It's interesting to see that but, for the money too, it's like,
that's not how I want to live for that kind of money.
-See you later.
I thought it was an interesting first property.
I was really shocked at the price for what it is.
You know, the view was the saving grace,
and the fact it was so near the sea because I am a water baby.
But I'm really looking forward to seeing more properties
and just seeing what's out there.
I think the key word is peace.
I'm not doing London, you know?
I'm doing peace.
At £2,272 a month,
the first property has a cool, modern look that Sally likes,
and a great beach-side location.
But it's too close to other flats for that much-needed peace.
While Jan may not be able to escape the cold season completely this year,
the friends are looking to make their Ibizan winter getaway
an annual occurrence.
Their absolute love of yoga - a union of body, mind and spirit -
and their desire to practise it outdoors all-year round,
something not always possible in Britain,
is fuelling their plans.
Ibiza has a long history of spirituality.
Christians, Buddhists and pagans all have holy sites on the island.
Many areas are said to have mystical healing powers,
all of which adds to Ibiza's unique vibe,
something Sally and Jan are determined to tap into...
if they can find their perfect winter getaway.
Hattie is taking Sally to an old farmhouse
converted into a rental property.
So, we are going to a traditional Sant Joan finca...
-..surrounded by nature, with spectacular views.
-At the very peak of Ibiza.
So it is the starting point for a lot of people,
if you want to make that lifestyle change
into the hippie, bohemian kind of way of living.
Amazing. OK, I'm excited!
Sant Joan is a village in northern Ibiza,
the spiritual heart of the island.
This is where the hippie influx of the '70s set up home.
It's less developed and attracts people looking for
a tranquil, more in-tune-with-nature lifestyle.
It's less techno, more boho.
This alternative lifestyle outlook
can be seen in the weekly market, which, alongside that traditional
locally-sourced fruit and veg and arts and crafts,
also sells gluten-free vegan cakes,
fermented green teas
and negative-energy-cleansing home-grown herbs.
The finca is just outside the village.
This is exactly what I love.
This is exactly what I love.
-Happy so far?
-I'm totally happy so far.
Shall we go have a look inside?
-Lead the way.
I mean, this is just beautiful.
This finca is over 300 years old
but has been sympathetically upgraded to a luxuriant standard.
Welcome to the living area.
Oh. It's amazing.
-That's a great reaction.
-I like that.
This is my vibe. Immediately.
Despite being in a secluded location,
the property has broadband internet
meaning that Sally can work, rest and play here.
Alongside the spacious living area and snug...
is the dining room.
The interior design is an eye-catching mix of modern
and a traditional Moroccan style.
This is exactly what I love, exactly what I love, yeah.
-That's good news.
-I want to move in!
The property has six bedrooms, four of which are en suite.
One even comes with a plunge pool,
with a blissful view of the Sant Joan countryside.
Sally and Jan have a preference for open-plan living but in this finca,
the kitchen is tucked away in a bit of a tight corner.
This would be amazing if you could knock through but,
-of course, it's ancient, so you don't.
The kitchen is not Sally's ideal design
but is she willing to compromise
to get the vast swimming pool area that's private,
surrounded by awe-inspiring scenery?
This is just incredible, I mean, yeah, it's breathtaking.
Jan wanted peace and certainly
this property gives her a little piece of paradise.
The two-bedroom apartment the friends viewed previously
was £2,272 a month.
So Sally is keen to know the price of this finca.
So, the price for this property
is £2,272 per month.
-The difference in what you can get!
I mean, this is crazy.
This would just be a yes.
-What do you think Jan is going to think?
I think Jan is just going to explode with joy!
And the pool, the pool is her fantasy.
-Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Although it's still a considerable amount of money,
the rental price of this finca does give Sally and Jan a lot more for
their money, compared to property one's beach-front living in town.
Jan is at home, waiting with bated breath,
for her next guided tour.
You're outside and I'm inside.
And this is going to blow your mind.
I hope so, girlfriend.
I'm going to turn this round,
show you where we're starting.
Woo, very nice.
I love Moorish style.
The friends are both loving the exotic Mediterranean stylings.
So, this is like the Ibiza that I love.
You haven't been to Ibiza so you don't know what I mean,
-but this is what I mean.
Look at those beams.
Brace yourselves, folks, Jan's about to see the swimming pool.
-Have a look at this!
Oh, my God!
A swimming pool. It's just paradise.
Wow, I want to come now. Now.
So, what did Jan think?
Jan loves it. I mean, she is just over the moon.
She's never seen Ibiza.
-I've gone on about it for years.
This is really the Ibiza I was talking about
and so she completely gets it, she's very excited, loves it,
said she was to be here, like, right now!
You also mentioned that you prefer open-plan.
-Do you like that kitchen?
-The kitchen isn't my favourite.
Um, if I had to, you know, and this is being very picky,
the overall vibe is fantastic so I don't want to knock anything,
but in an ideal world, an open-plan kitchen is my fantasy.
So, is this a possibility for you moving over to Ibiza,
-into this property?
-This is definitely a possibility.
Available to rent for £2,272 a month,
the finca is surrounded by nature
and has the peaceful vibe the friends want,
plus that swimming pool.
But are they willing to go to the top end of their budget
if the living space isn't perfect?
Ibiza attracts visitors from all over the world,
of all age groups and from all walks of life.
Each and every one looking to make their own distinct memories
of this island paradise.
As Sally is discovering, there is a wide range of properties available,
from modern apartments to traditional fincas.
There are also luxurious contemporary villas
that exude opulence.
This five-bedroom property with stunning views
across Ibiza Town harbour is utterly spectacular.
The floor-to-ceiling sliding doors and large windows
engulf the property in natural light.
It's expensive, available for around £9,000 a week in summer.
It's half of that in winter.
Or if you'd like to spend a little bit more,
then there is this five-bedroom super-luxurious villa.
This property is a sun palace, designed to allow residents
an inspiring vista of the Mediterranean Sea
and the setting sun.
Hey-ho, this could be yours
for a smidgen under £36,000 a week in winter.
Those stunning views and this sumptuous pad don't come cheap.
I tell you what, best not to ask about the summer price!
Sally believes passionately in sustainable ethical farming
and eats a vegetarian diet
free from pesticides.
In London, this is possible due to the wide range of produce available.
She's determined that, by living like a local on Ibiza,
she'll be able to tap into the community of people
growing organic and sustainable food.
Sally is returning to the village of Sant Joan,
to the artisan market.
Stallholders here sell a wide variety of handmade local wares,
herbal remedies, fruit and veg, and baked goods.
To guide her round the market,
Sally is meeting environmental educationalist Adriana Molina.
-Hey, Sally, how are you?
Welcome to Sant Joan market.
Thank you. How amazing.
-I was speaking with Nelo.
He's growing some organic vegetables in Ibiza
and selling also vegetables from little organic farms.
Ah, they look amazing. The food is so vibrant, like,
the colours you can just see popping.
Ibiza has a burgeoning organic farm-to-fork food scene,
meaning that it's possible to have a diet of purely local produce,
and that's not just for vegetarians like Sally.
These look amazing.
Laia is growing their own their own plants and herbs.
And this is carob, which is amazing to see.
I mean, I don't think I've even seen carob like this
very often in my life.
Native to the island is the carob tree.
Its dried fruit is energy-rich and a natural antioxidant.
It's so beautiful to see these plants in their natural form.
In the UK, it's mainly sold in processed powdered form
for its numerous health benefits.
Sally is an advocate of a gluten-free diet
which is also catered for in the Sant Joan market
with stalls selling home-made gluten-free breads and cakes.
It's so delicious.
This is just really inspirational.
I mean, it's one of the nicest sort of surprises I could have had.
Like, coming here and realising how like-minded the people are.
And it's just fantastic to think that you can live a life like that
and do tonnes of yoga.
I don't feel like I would be bored in the winter at all.
It's going to be, like, really exciting getting to know people
and actually, quite the local scene,
which is very much my passion.
It's a brand-new day, and Sally's a woman on a mission,
to find her slice of paradise.
Hattie is taking her to San Antonio.
The famous town on the west coast
is hailed as the clubbing capital of the universe.
In the summer months,
it's a nonstop party town from dusk until dawn.
During the winter months, the town takes on a more chilled vibe
in comparison to its hedonistic summers.
And it's where Hattie lays her hat.
In the winter, not everything shuts down.
We don't just, you know, close up
and just hide here and shiver and wait till May.
Some places do, maybe further north of the island, but here,
restaurants, Spanish bars, all sorts of places are still open,
and they thrive in winter.
-And obviously, everyone is relaxed.
-There's no rush.
-You can take your time.
I get that. I mean, I didn't want to go to
such a rural community that was, like, so old-style,
there was nothing going on.
I definitely want to dip into the music scene here and...
Sounds like the location is getting a thumbs up.
And the two-bedroom apartment they're about to see
is near to the beach.
Situated on the top floor,
the living area's flooded with natural light
from the balcony doors.
-First reactions, very nice and bright, which I like.
And I like the ceiling height,
because I'm a real ceiling height fanatic.
Off the living room is a galley kitchen.
It's a good size,
and while it may not have Sally and Jan's preferred open-plan layout,
it does have direct access to the balcony.
Great cooking space. All your mod cons that you need.
-What do you think?
I like the fact that the balcony is immediately accessible.
The balcony offers plenty of space for outside dining
with that sea view.
This is the main bathroom.
-You've got your shower, you've got your sink,
you got your toilet as well.
Absolutely. No, really nice.
Yeah, it's really nice.
It's all very clean-feeling here.
And I love the colour blue.
The master bedroom is narrow,
but it does have built-in storage and an en-suite bathroom.
This apartment is well laid out
and it has a very stylish finish.
But what gives it that extra-special appeal is up this spiral staircase.
On a clear day from this rooftop terrace,
you can see the horizon line perfectly.
Unfortunately, I'm afraid it's not such a clear day.
It's not the most fantastic weather today.
On a beautiful day, this view is absolutely spectacular.
-The sunset is right there.
Yeah, I get it.
I actually really like the roof terrace a lot
-and the view is mind-blowing.
-Great space for yoga.
Yeah, yeah. Definitely.
I think you've brought some of the UK weather with you today.
No, I didn't! I didn't bring the snow.
It's snowing in the UK!
-Can we go back inside?
-Yes, we can!
Let's go back inside, OK.
The previous two properties
maxed out Sally and Jan's quite considerable accommodation budget.
They may have fallen in love with the finca,
but perhaps the cost of this apartment
will put that love to the test.
The price of this apartment is £1,136 per month.
That's great! That's much better.
Yeah. Maybe we should go give Jan a ring, see what she thinks?
Yeah, that would be great.
After you. Lead the way.
That price is half the cost of the first two properties,
which would allow Sally to stay for longer than
the two months she planned to.
What Jan would like is to get away from the snow.
Hey, hello from Ibiza!
We're in a flat today.
I can't wait to show it to you.
Hey, come on, cat.
We are standing in the living room, really nice and light, open...
So what do you think so far?
Show me the rest.
I'm sorry, I saw the view.
Jan does not want to be overlooked.
So here's the kitchen.
You know, I'm not really...
I don't really like galley kitchens.
I feel suffocated in them, you know?
I don't like the galley kitchen either.
That's not my vibe at all.
This is where you would be.
They've got two beds here.
This apartment is not the dream retreat Jan had envisaged
for their winter getaway. But there's still hope.
I want to know where those stairs go!
Yeah. Get ready for the good view.
Oh, that's great.
It's a massive terrace.
I mean, this is obviously a wild day, but can you see the coastline?
I think the terrace is great.
You know, that's great for socialising,
and also really great for yoga.
When Sally saw the rooftop terrace,
the view from up there is absolutely spectacular,
and to catch it on a sunny day, it makes it just even better.
A big plus point is that it's under their budget.
The important thing is, how much is this one costing?
OK, it is 1,136.
That's... That's a good price.
So I think for the price...
-..I think that's what it's worth.
And that's the interesting thing about it.
Plus, it has that amazing outside space.
The apartment is practical, it's affordable,
and that rooftop terrace makes it just that little bit special.
So, what do you think?
I love the terrace, I think it's fantastic.
-The terrace, seeing the sea,
but not just the sea from the little narrow view,
but really the whole 360 panorama is pretty impressive.
There's an enormous difference in price from the other one.
The £1,136 a month price tag
combined with the large, light rooms
and that roof terrace,
makes this apartment a real contender.
Weather-wise, it's been a bit miz, but even on a day such as this,
a San Antonio sunset is still stunning.
With one more property to view,
Sally and Jan now have a better idea of the type of properties available,
and the compromises they'll have to make
to turn their dream of a winter getaway into a reality.
Jan is planning on travelling between the UK and Ibiza regularly
during her and Sally's winter in the sun.
In the summer months,
there are around 14 flights a day from London to Ibiza.
In winter, there's only one,
but it could cost as little as £30 if booked in advance.
This is making winter on Ibiza increasingly popular,
which in turn pushes up the rental prices,
especially for last-minute bookings.
For a last roll of the rental property dice,
Hattie is taking Sally to the village of Sant Josep.
In the rural south-west of the island,
Sant Josep is only a 15-minute drive from San Antonio.
But it's a world away from being a clubbing town.
The village is a pretty maze of traditional whitewashed properties
with the nearly 300-year-old church dominating the skyline.
Surrounded by national parks, nature reserves
and 80km of stunning coastline and beautiful beaches.
I regard Sant Josep is a hidden gem
with places that you can find to live. It's close enough,
but far enough away to have your peace and quiet.
The property is located four miles outside Sant Josep village.
This modern villa was built in a Moroccan style
and is set within a private walled garden.
It's an absolute oasis of calm and tranquillity.
Here we are in your courtyard.
I'm loving this sigh of relaxation.
We've had this before, but I love the reaction.
Because we are in the right vibe now.
Sally said her fantasy is a traditional property
with open-plan living.
With this villa, that fantasy could become a reality.
Oh, it's so lovely, yeah.
-Here you have open-plan living space.
Immediately, I love it.
For me, open-plan is almost like the ideal way to live.
I'm a people person, so I don't like walls.
You can communicate better with anybody that's in your house.
Wonderful double bedroom with...
..disco lights as well.
-What a way to enter a room!
Might have to be Jan's room.
She used to be a major raver.
So far, this modern villa with a traditional twist
is going down very well with Sally.
Bathroom is amazing.
-The feature of this bathroom is absolutely spectacular.
Well, the bath's big enough to be a swimming pool,
but there's no need to splash around inside
when you can splash around outside.
The sun palace is available for £1,800 a month.
Back in London, the cold snap is biting.
Nice to see you.
-In sunny Ibiza.
It's really sunny today, it's great.
And it's really drizzly today!
So, first of all, I'm just going to show you this.
This is the courtyard.
It's good. It's beautiful.
Yeah. It's looking really, really good.
This property has a fantastic open-plan space,
which is exactly what Sally and Jan were looking for.
It has an open-plan kitchen, living and dining area,
with fantastic decor to match.
I'm going to walk over into the middle
so you can see much more of the kitchen.
Oh, that's looking really nice.
I love the kitchen, and I love the shape of the windows
and the doors and the openness of it.
Oh, very nice.
That's a shower, that's cool.
I like that.
Sally and Jan are simpatico.
They both love this property.
-Oh, the swimming pool!
And then looking round here is...
I mean, what I love, look at this.
-Oh, that's gorgeous, yeah. Yeah.
I've always wanted to live near palm trees.
-What do you think?
I really like it.
It's a very nice layout inside.
The place itself is just completely beautiful.
-What did Jan think?
-Jan loved it, and I think for the same reasons,
the open, social space,
because we do socialise, both of us,
we are very social. So, you know,
somebody can be cooking, Jan could be cooking,
she's a good cook, I could be sitting at the table,
entertaining people, and there's some others outside.
You can just feel it, you know?
-Yeah. You can definitely see it happening in this property.
This villa is available for £1,800 per month.
Sally and Jan love every single thing about it.
The open-plan living and dining space,
and its traditional design.
Hattie has opened Sally and Jan's eyes to the often expensive reality
of renting on Ibiza for the winter months.
-Hey, hi there!
Thought we'd give you a cheers even though you're there.
So even though you've not been with us, have you enjoyed it?
Yeah, it's just...
sort of given energy to my dream, really, and to keep going.
-Have you enjoyed the experience?
I have totally enjoyed the experience.
I mean, it's reminded me of why I want to do this.
All the people that I've met, they really have great lives out here.
-They do all the organic thing and...
You know, just totally fit in here.
This is the end, and we've seen all the properties,
and we've been all around the island,
so we thought we'd start from the beginning and see what you both thought.
I love the finca and the villa, but my heart is with the finca.
It was just, yes, yes, yes.
Yes, yes, yes, yes.
Look at that smile, and the little excitement wiggle.
And if I had to, I would consider apartment,
if it was the right price.
-I can't wait to see you
to have a really good gasbag about it.
I know, yeah.
Tomorrow, Sally returns home, where big decisions need to be made.
Best friends, Sally and Jan, have a shared dream.
The plan is to escape the beauty of London in the winter.
It is freezing.
Sally jetted to Ibiza,
where property expert Hattie
had four rental properties for her to view,
and Sally was in no doubt that she was in the right place.
I just got a direct...
..download that, "No, it's Ibiza."
-It is, yeah.
Sally loved the modern look of the first apartment.
But the friends wanted somewhere with a bit more privacy.
But you know, immediately, it's the proximity of other places, you know.
The 300-year-old finca gave them privacy,
but it also came with a very high price tag.
-That's a great reaction.
Oh, very nice.
This two-bedroom apartment in the lively town of San Antonio appealed,
because it was half the price of the first two properties.
That's great. It's much better.
But the last villa could have delivered on everything they wanted.
Oh, the swimming pool!
The big question is, which property, if any,
have Sally and Jan picked as their winter getaway?
Or is it another cold season in London?
Sadly for them, it's London.
This winter, they've left it too late to organise their getaway
alongside work and family commitments.
But Sally and Jan are determined
that this will be their last UK winter.
There's a few more details to tick off the list of getting ready,
and then we're going.
It's like, Ibiza is amazing, I absolutely love it.
So does Jan.
-It is the best.
-I think it's the next phase, really, of my...
..you know, what am I going to spend the next 20 odd years doing?
Where do I want to be and how do I want to live, you know?
The friends were in complete agreement which property they would have gone for.
It was the 300-year-old finca.
I thought it was incredible.
It was so fabulous.
Fell totally in love with it.
But it was inspiring just to see what's on offer, really, I think.
That was what was good.
You know, I'm, sort of, it made me more resolved.
Well, the sun may have set on their plans to get away for this winter,
but the friends are really looking forward to the future.
My timeline is - winter in the sun, end of 2018,
and it's definitely happening.
I'll make it happen.
Sally and Jan want to swap the cold of London for sunshine in Ibiza. They are shown four rental properties on the Spanish island by local property expert Hattie, but will they find their perfect winter bolt-hole in the sun? Gloria Hunniford narrates.
