The cost of using gas in thd Channel Islands is going up

From next month, prices will rise by 2.9% for all customers.

Guernsey and Jersey Gas say the company's had a difficult fdw years

with fewer people using gas, and it appears warmer weather is to blame.

A milder winter and sunny spring means we have been using less gas to

cook and heat our homes. Thhs means that earns a and Jersey Gas have not

made enough money. Recently, the company has underperformed

financially. This is due to out beat being down and consumption being

down. This is brought about by the below average warmer weather that we

are experiencing in the Channel Islands. This small increasd will go

some way to returning as to the acceptable level of income that we

require so that we can conthnue with investment into our infrastructure

and provide a quality and rdliable service for our customers. Gas

prices will increase across the Channel Islands by 0.3% per unit.

That equates to just over 10p every day. In Jersey, GST is also added to

that figure on your bill, where it is not in Guernsey. Some people say

that needs to change. Some of the things that should be getting done

is looking at whether GST should apply on fuel. Certainly, it has

always been said that that `ffect consumers. With the goods and

services tax not yet ruled out for Guernsey, a word of warning. If GST

or an equivalent is introduced in Guernsey, then the states should

think very carefully about introducing GST on the necessities

of life, such as food and ftel. These gas increases will cole at a

force `` into force on the 02th of September, but for consumers it

really is a Catch`22. A milder winter means they use less gas, but
