all of the stories today on the BBC News Channel. That is it from me. | :00:00. | :00:00.
Stay with us on BBC One for the news where you are. Good night. | :00:00. | :00:11.
Good evening. The number of billionaires living in Britain has | :00:12. | :00:16.
risen to more than 100 according to the Sunday Times super rich list, | :00:17. | :00:19.
with nearly two`thirds of them in London. The paper says there are now | :00:20. | :00:27.
more billionaires here per head of population than any other city in | :00:28. | :00:33.
the world. Here's Sarah Harris. London, according to the latest Rich | :00:34. | :00:38.
list, is home to more billionaires than any other city in the world. | :00:39. | :00:46.
These are now Britain's richest man, together worth ?11.9 billion. | :00:47. | :00:56.
The owner of Arsenal has been knocked off the top spot but he | :00:57. | :01:05.
still has ?10 billion. Roman Abramovich now has a mere ?8.5 | :01:06. | :01:10.
billion. The man whose life work has been studying the super`rich says | :01:11. | :01:16.
London has become the place to live. The culture, rule of law, | :01:17. | :01:23.
property rights are protected, they will not be chucked in prison and | :01:24. | :01:27.
have their fortune ceased. Good schools that they like to try to get | :01:28. | :01:32.
their kids into, like Eton. Two the top five on the list live on the | :01:33. | :01:38.
street in Kensington where the average price of a house is ?40 | :01:39. | :01:48.
million. 72 residents are thought to have a fortune of more than ?1 | :01:49. | :01:54.
billion, compared to 48 in Moscow. But record price tags for property | :01:55. | :02:01.
are easily affordable for the super`rich. The rich list will be | :02:02. | :02:05.
published next week. As well as council elections this | :02:06. | :02:08.
month, four London boroughs will also elect a local Mayor. One of | :02:09. | :02:11.
them is Tower Hamlets, which has been facing serious questions about | :02:12. | :02:13.
their current mayor's spending. Lutfur Rahman denies any wrongdoing, | :02:14. | :02:16.
but this particular contest is being closely watched. Here's our | :02:17. | :02:24.
Political Editor, Tim Donovan. Left Rahman was elected the | :02:25. | :02:28.
independent Mayor of Tower Hamlets after the national Labour Party | :02:29. | :02:35.
rejected him as its candidate. `` Lutfur Rahman. This was due to | :02:36. | :02:38.
support from the Bangladeshi community, his slightly outnumber | :02:39. | :02:43.
white people in the borough. This is now about a civil war. This is a | :02:44. | :02:48.
splinter group of the Labour Party and they called the Labour MPs in | :02:49. | :02:51.
the House of Commons their colleagues and brothers and sisters. | :02:52. | :02:56.
Clearly that is what is happening. Maybe there are characteristics | :02:57. | :02:59.
within the local Labour Party that somehow put people's backs up. The | :03:00. | :03:04.
Labour candidate is John Biggs, currently a London Assembly member, | :03:05. | :03:08.
who was joined by the party leader this week. He says there are clear | :03:09. | :03:12.
differences between him and Lutfur Rahman. He will tell you he lives by | :03:13. | :03:15.
Labour values but the evidence that he is too much of a separatist and | :03:16. | :03:20.
not part of the mainstream anymore. We offer a very real choice which is | :03:21. | :03:25.
about a leadership broadly based in the borough which respects all | :03:26. | :03:29.
communities and is going to take our borough forward at a time of | :03:30. | :03:33.
enormous change and pressure. The Conservatives say that the two front | :03:34. | :03:37.
runners don't provide a clear choice. Ideally it would be myself | :03:38. | :03:41.
but I think Tower Hamlets needs a Mayor that is open to all the | :03:42. | :03:44.
community and has that commitment and energy. According to the current | :03:45. | :03:48.
Mayor, the differences between him and his old party are about policy | :03:49. | :03:52.
and portraying him as being governed by and for Bangladeshi people has | :03:53. | :03:57.
been racist. Free home care for the only group of people that we have | :03:58. | :04:07.
continued to provide for. We don't charge for care for vulnerable | :04:08. | :04:11.
residents in the community and I am the only person continuing that. It | :04:12. | :04:14.
is certainly an outcome hard to predict. A full list of candidates | :04:15. | :04:20.
standing for election in Tower Hamlets can be found at the address | :04:21. | :04:23.
on your screen. Now let's look at the weather forecast. Good evening. | :04:24. | :04:31.
Still a chance of the odd shower overnight but that Bruce is starting | :04:32. | :04:36.
to ease. Tomorrow another mixed bag. `` breeze is starting to ease. | :04:37. | :04:42.
Sunshine and showers but the wind is lighter. High pressure builds in on | :04:43. | :04:45.
Wednesday and it gets slowly warmer towards the end of the week. | :04:46. | :04:49.
That is it from the BBC London weekend team. We will be back | :04:50. | :04:53.
tomorrow morning the latest news, travel and weather from 6:30am. For | :04:54. | :04:55.
now we wish you a very good night. Good evening. If you are after some | :04:56. | :05:11.
guaranteed dry weather and warmth, you need to hang in there for a | :05:12. | :05:16.
couple more days. In the short term, we are sticking with a mixture of | :05:17. | :05:22.
sunshine at times and heavy showers. Showers keep going tonight but the | :05:23. | :05:25.
cloud breaks up to give clearer spells across northern Scotland | :05:26. | :05:29.
particularly, so here there will be a touch of frost. The breeze eases | :05:30. | :05:33.
down further South and most places will begin at eight or nine | :05:34. | :05:37.
degrees. We start Monday | :05:38. | :05:38. |
