Now on BBC One, it's time for the news where you are. | :00:00. | :00:13.
Hello. A very good evening. There are concerns over possible religious | :00:14. | :00:21.
extremism at a school in Tower Hamlets. BBC London has learned the | :00:22. | :00:27.
council has information concerning the possible Islamification of Kobi | :00:28. | :00:29.
Nazrul Primary School. The Department for Education has told us | :00:30. | :00:33.
it will investigate any alldgations. It follows the so`called Trojan | :00:34. | :00:37.
Horse plot in Birmingham, in which a number of schools were the target of | :00:38. | :00:42.
an alleged takeover plot by extremists. | :00:43. | :00:48.
David Cameron once choose this school as the backdrop for the plans | :00:49. | :00:51.
for integrating minority communities. Now it is surrounded by | :00:52. | :00:55.
suspicion. Tower Hamlets Cotncil is trying to remove the entire | :00:56. | :01:00.
governing body over an alarling slip in standards. Now BBC London | :01:01. | :01:04.
understands information has been received. | :01:05. | :01:07.
After the events in Birmingham, we asked every single London council to | :01:08. | :01:12.
tell us of any tip`offs abott any of their schools. We asked for any | :01:13. | :01:17.
details of any alleged attelpt by Islamic extremists to infiltrate any | :01:18. | :01:22.
school or try to influence the Islamification of lessons. Tower | :01:23. | :01:27.
Hamlets confirmed it was no position of a document, but so far h`s not | :01:28. | :01:32.
shown it to us or identified the school. We understand the | :01:33. | :01:35.
information relates to Kobi Nazrul Primary School. Four of the 15 | :01:36. | :01:39.
governors at the school havd now resigned. This man is one of them. | :01:40. | :01:42.
He said he was not invited to meetings and was alarmed at the | :01:43. | :01:48.
amount of long`remaining stoof leaving. Some were at the school for | :01:49. | :01:53.
over a decade. I don't know what happened hnside, | :01:54. | :01:57.
in terms of the management from the top layer. There's no other | :01:58. | :02:01.
conclusion. There must have been a reason they resigned. Results from | :02:02. | :02:11.
gone from 82% of pupils gains good Sats to 42%. The question the | :02:12. | :02:18.
governors were asked, they were asked while why our school was | :02:19. | :02:22.
failing. We have not had a valid answer, basically. They tridd to, | :02:23. | :02:27.
behind our backs, actually, tried to put this school into an academy | :02:28. | :02:31.
There was no consultation whth the parents. None of the parents we | :02:32. | :02:36.
spoke to have seen any avert extremism. We now know one of the | :02:37. | :02:47.
governors is a member of an Islamist group. It has infiltrated and | :02:48. | :02:52.
recruited at university and remains under constant review by thd Home | :02:53. | :02:56.
Office. The local MP says the Government should have acted sooner. | :02:57. | :03:00.
The Government and the Secrdtary of State has sat on his hands. In the | :03:01. | :03:05.
mean time, children are suffering, parents are suffering. Parent | :03:06. | :03:10.
governors have raised alarm bells that they have been in a minority. | :03:11. | :03:14.
This school needs action quhckly. The Department for Education told us | :03:15. | :03:18.
if they find evidence of extremism they will not hesitate to act. They | :03:19. | :03:26.
are awaiting the results of an emergency Ofsted inspection. That | :03:27. | :03:29.
may shed light on what is h`ppening inside. | :03:30. | :03:31.
Just to clarify, these are concerns about governors, not necess`rily at | :03:32. | :03:38.
what is taught at the school? That is right. So far nothing in our | :03:39. | :03:44.
investigation has suggested any obvious or overt attempts at | :03:45. | :03:49.
Islamification at this school. Tower Hamlets Council had concerns about | :03:50. | :03:52.
the school for some time. Wd know that back in 2012, when a ndw head | :03:53. | :03:56.
was hired t council stronglx objected to that. Then we s`w a | :03:57. | :04:01.
dramatic drop in results at the school. The council tried to | :04:02. | :04:06.
intervene. It brought in Ofsted It is when we get the findings we will | :04:07. | :04:10.
find out what, if anything has happened at this school. | :04:11. | :04:16.
An inquest into the death of a mother whose shooting sparkdd the | :04:17. | :04:21.
1985 Brixton riots began today. Cherry Groce was shot during a | :04:22. | :04:27.
police raid and died of her injuries in 2011. | :04:28. | :04:32.
He was only 11 years old whdn he saw his mother lying on the floor | :04:33. | :04:35.
bleeding at their home in Brixton. She had been shot by an armdd police | :04:36. | :04:40.
officer. Today, he told an hnquest jury he was screaming and shouting | :04:41. | :04:45.
repeatedly, "What have you done to my mum? " He heard her saying, I | :04:46. | :04:51.
cannot feel my legs. I can not breathe. I am going to die." He said | :04:52. | :04:58.
he became hysterical ux but the officer `` but the officer told me | :04:59. | :05:03.
to shut up. She died from her injuries hn 2 11. | :05:04. | :05:09.
26 years after the shooting. It provoked a riot in Brixton `nd | :05:10. | :05:14.
raised questions at the timd about policing the black communitx and the | :05:15. | :05:18.
use of lethal force. Police had been looking for her son, described as | :05:19. | :05:24.
extremely dangerous. He was suspected of carrying out an armed | :05:25. | :05:31.
robbery. At an address in London he pointed a shotgun at a Hertfordshire | :05:32. | :05:35.
police officer and then dis`ppeared. The next day, armed officers from | :05:36. | :05:39.
the Met carried out searches and raids. It wasn't until earlx the | :05:40. | :05:43.
next morning they targeted his family home and shot his mother | :05:44. | :05:50.
The jury heard there were sdrious deficiencies in how the raid was | :05:51. | :05:53.
carried out. There was a lack of information about the lay`ott of the | :05:54. | :05:56.
property and details of who was inside. An independent revidw by | :05:57. | :06:01.
West Yorkshire Police found grave risks were created for both the | :06:02. | :06:04.
public and the police. Risks that should have been avoided. | :06:05. | :06:09.
It has taken the family of Cherry Groce the past three years since her | :06:10. | :06:13.
death to secure legal aid so, they can be represented at an inpuest. | :06:14. | :06:18.
Tomorrow, the jury is due to hear from the officer who shot hdr. | :06:19. | :06:24.
Time for me to wish you a vdry good night and hand you over to Wendy for | :06:25. | :06:31.
a look at the weather, which is warming up, I gather! | :06:32. | :06:33.

It is. Today was disappointhng if you got caught in the hefty showers. | :06:34. | :06:41.
Tomorrow, dry, warm and sunny. If you have seen any of those showers | :06:42. | :06:47.
this evening, they are fizzling out. Through the night there'll be a lot | :06:48. | :06:51.
of clear skies. If you are tp early tomorrow you may see a mist patch | :06:52. | :06:56.
here or there. 13 Celsius in London. They may fall into single fhgures in | :06:57. | :07:03.
the odd rural spot across the Home Counties. There'll be loads of | :07:04. | :07:06.
sunshine and the temperaturd will pick up nicely through the lorning. | :07:07. | :07:09.
In the afternoon, a smatterhng of cloud. It should be largely dry A | :07:10. | :07:15.
small chance of tennis being disrupted tomorrow due to a shower. | :07:16. | :07:20.
Temperatures will be up to 22 Celsius in London. On the ottlook, | :07:21. | :07:25.
we have Wednesday and Thursday both warm, sunny days. 26 we could hit on | :07:26. | :07:30.
Thursday. We will cling on to that fine weather for Friday, before it | :07:31. | :07:33.
turns unsettled to tr weekend. There were a few aspects to the | :07:34. | :07:46.
forecast today which did not go to plan. | :07:47. | :07:48.
There were more showers than expected. The ones which did develop | :07:49. | :07:54.
were heavy. They moved through Wimbledon and west London. They have | :07:55. | :07:58.
fizzled out now. We have some showers over parts of Scotland. | :07:59. | :08:02.
Most places will miss showers tomorrow and stay dry. We have | :08:03. | :08:06.
plenty of sunshine around, with temperatures in the low 20s. | :08:07. | :08:11.
Tonight, those showers continuing for a while across Scotland. We | :08:12. | :08:15.
might see a shower across the far south-west. For many, through the | :08:16. | :08:19.
night, it will be dry, with some clear spells. Temperatures in towns | :08:20. | :08:24.
and cities down to 10-12 Celsius. A touch cooler in the countryside The | :08:25. | :08:28.
sunshine will get to work to warm things up. You can see warm spells | :08:29. | :08:33.
for many areas. There'll be areas picking up a little bit more cloud | :08:34. | :08:35.
once | :08:36. | :08:37. |
