Police have launched a murder inquiry after the death

of a 31-year-old man injured during an altercation

He has been named as Paul McCready from north Belfast.

Michael Fitzpatrick has been to the scene.

The altercation took place in this part of the city centre shortly

before 1am this morning. Ambulance crews were called to treat

31-year-old Paul McCready who was unconscious outside a bar. In north

Belfast man was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital but later died

from his injuries. This afternoon, the police, who are treating Paul

McCready's death as murder carried out an examination of the lower end

of Donegal Street. This altercation took place at one of the busiest

times of the week in the Cathedral Quarter. The police say they would

have been quite a number of people in the area at the time who

witnessed what happened. They have appealed to them to come forward.

A man has died in a car crash in County Down.

It happened on the Saintfield Road in Crossgar early this morning.

A 60-year-old man is in a serious condition in hospital after he was

And a 30-year-old man has been charged with causing grievous bodily

harm after an assault on a 32-year-old man

at Waterworks Park in north Belfast yesterday.

The claims were made in a newspaper article by the former deputy

Prime Minister John Prescott, who said he was told

of the tap by then Prime Minister Tony Blair in 2005.

Mr Prescott has opened up the black box into the dark art of the

government and the protocol makes it very clear, members of Parliament

are not to be wiretapped or snoop. Clearly that has happened on this

occasion. We were tipped off at the time that something like this was

going on and I think that made us very alert to what should be said. I

know at the time my father personally challenged Tony Blair

about this and he denied it. That shows the level of deceit to which

the Blair government is prepared to stoop.

A confidential telephone line is to be set up in Mauritius

for people to give information about the murder of Tyrone woman

The move coincides with the visit to the island of her husband

John McAreavey to try to help the police investigation.

One of the first things he did in Mauritius was taught to his lawyer.

They discussed plans to make a public appeal for more information

about Michaela McAreavey's murder. In an interview at his office, the

lawyer said the information did not have to go directly to the police.

This is how it is done when you want to communicate information to the

police and you want to know when to reveal your identity. A confidential

hotline? Yes. The commissioner is fully OK with it. More details will

be given at a news conference on Tuesday. He will try to send a

direct message to the people of Mauritius. He will tell them he does

not want their sympathy, he wants their help.

Sport now, and defending champion Jonathan Rea's run of five

successive World Superbike victories ended when Welshman Chaz Davies won

Rea led for most of the race after starting ninth on the grid

and briefly hit the front again on the last lap.

Despite not winning for the first time this year, Rea has

extended his overall championship lead to 50 points.

very nice out there this evening. Clouds will be rolling in this

evening and the breeze will pepper wrapped during the night. One or two

spots of rain around but most places will stay dry. The rain will be

around tomorrow but you may well be lucky and get away with a dried

journey to work or school. Most of the rain in the West through the

rush-hour. It will be quite a blustery day across the Republic of

Ireland and the West of Scotland. And there will be some rain

continuing to move eastwards. It looks like eastern Scotland, much of

England and East Wales will stay dry. But that rain nudging across

the Irish Sea later in the afternoon. Quite a keen southerly

wind tomorrow. Blustery through the day. A damp day and it could even

end up quite wet. The rain will continue to move away eastwards

tomorrow night. Skies will start to clear in places as well. And then

good news for the rest of the coming week, once we get in out of the way,

it is looking much drier from Tuesday onwards. It will not always

be sunny but the reason for the dry weather is this area of high

pressure which looks like it will be in force for the rest of the working

week. Some sunshine at times and where we get clear skies at night

time, it could still be quite chilly. So the umbrellas will be out

tomorrow but hopefully we can put them away for the rest of the week.
