Good evening. Inspectors have raised concerns about the high levels of

assault at Woodhill Prison in Milton Keynes which were found to be almost

double what they see in other local prisons. The high`security category

A jail has been described as "disappointing" after a surprise

inspection in January. An impromptu visit by the Chief Inspector of

Prisons in January found serious problems Attwood hill in Milton

Keynes the report found levels of assault and violence were very high.

Many prisoners said they felt victimised and unsafe. The number of

inmates self`harming was at a worrying level. The amount of time

the men spent out of their cells had dropped considerably. When they were

out, a quarter had nothing to do. The levels of assault for example

Tragically, five people have taken their own lives. A lack of prisoner

employment had not been addressed since the last inspection two years

ago. Respect between staff and detainees not as good as it once

was. Last autumn a new management team and a new governor was brought

in. The Prison Reform Trust says this, combined with staffing cuts,

and budget cuts, is bound to create a less stable environment. What

isn't clear is that it's making enough effort on resettlement. Most

people people with a want people toll leave prison much less likely

to offend than when they go in. If you have an environment like this,

with violence, self`harm, not much in the way of purposeful activity

and a lot of lock`up, it's difficult to get that achieved. The prison

inspectors say they are disappointed, but expect to see

improvements by their next visit. A Wiltshire man has died at a

construction site in Maidenhead. The incident happened at West Street in

the town at around 12.30pm. Paramedics and the air ambulance

attended. But the man, who has hadn't `` hasn't yet been identified
