A dairy that's been designed to be the biggest of its kind in the world

:00:09.:00:13.

has been officially opened by the Environment Secretary Owen Paterson.

:00:14.:00:15.

The Arla plant near Aylesbury can process more than

:00:16.:00:18.

Hundreds of farmers are sending their milk

:00:19.:00:22.

there ` and there are claim the site has caused huge traffic problems.

:00:23.:00:25.

Currently operating at around half its capacity ` this is already

:00:26.:00:32.

Arla's Aylesbury Diary is set to become the biggest of its kind

:00:33.:00:38.

It's created hundreds of new jobs ` and processes milk

:00:39.:00:43.

Today, the Environment Secretary got to see

:00:44.:00:50.

The message is this is an enormous investment for the British industry.

:00:51.:00:57.

It is a huge boost to the hundreds of farmers who have

:00:58.:01:00.

signed up to supply them and at a time where world demand is growing

:01:01.:01:04.

every year, this shows how we can really compete on the world stage.

:01:05.:01:08.

All of his milk is now taken to the plant.

:01:09.:01:12.

I think this is an exciting development for the UK

:01:13.:01:15.

It demonstrates we are serious about what we do,

:01:16.:01:20.

they are efficient at converting the milk into the finished product.

:01:21.:01:22.

But this plant has caused controversy.

:01:23.:01:24.

Campaigners say, although the firm did alter the

:01:25.:01:26.

design of the building, the plant is contributing to traffic chaos.

:01:27.:01:29.

You can't get from one end to the other and that has impeded it by the

:01:30.:01:34.

increase in traffic which will go to 5000 vehicle movements per day.

:01:35.:01:39.

Add onto that additional housing, gridlock is rife.

:01:40.:01:46.

But the company says it?s listened to concerns.

:01:47.:01:49.

We have worked very closely with the local community to make sure

:01:50.:01:52.

any disruption to the community is minimised.

:01:53.:01:54.

In fact, new investment has been made on a traffic light

:01:55.:01:57.

Arla says the plant will be at full capacity later this year.

:01:58.:02:02.

Critics question whether there is enough milk production here

:02:03.:02:06.

in the UK to sustain the plant ` or whether they'll have to import

:02:07.:02:10.

Plans for Cotswold and West Oxfordshire District Councils

:02:11.:02:21.

to merge with Cheltenham and the Forest of Dean could save ?55

:02:22.:02:24.

More than 400,000 people live across the four districts.

:02:25.:02:30.

There have been mergers elsewhere, but this would be the most radical

:02:31.:02:33.

The family of a 15`year`old air cadet who died when his training

:02:34.:02:40.

plane collided near Abingdon have secured an undisclosed settlement

:02:41.:02:44.

Flight Lieutentant Mike Blee and cadet Nicholas Rice

:02:45.:02:48.

In 2012 an inquest jury returned a verdict of accidental death.

:02:49.:02:55.

The RAF says it's implemented 16 safety recommendations

:02:56.:02:58.

Doctors in Oxford say studying injuries in racehorses is helping

:02:59.:03:05.

them to develop better ways of treating tendon injuries in humans.

:03:06.:03:09.

Around 1 in 4 people will develop a tendon injury ` through sport,

:03:10.:03:13.

At speeds of almost 40mph, these racehorses are designed to run.

:03:14.:03:24.

But just like us they pick up injuries.

:03:25.:03:27.

Now vets and doctors at the University

:03:28.:03:30.

of Oxford have come together to see if that research into horses can be

:03:31.:03:34.

The same factors that contribute horses developing tendon injuries

:03:35.:03:42.

are applicable to humans, so repetitive exercise, ageing, genetic

:03:43.:03:46.

factors and information, these are all contributing factors to

:03:47.:03:50.

Stephen's a self employed plasterer who fell off a step ladder three

:03:51.:03:56.

months ago, tearing the tendon in his shoulder in the process.

:03:57.:04:01.

Past a certain point moving your arm, you really can't feel it.

:04:02.:04:05.

If you aren't straight you can't move it above waist level, so no

:04:06.:04:10.

movement about the head, which isn't physically possible at this moment.

:04:11.:04:16.

Despite having a seemingly successful operation,

:04:17.:04:19.

Stephen still has up to a 50% chance of an ongoing problem and it?s that

:04:20.:04:25.

By understanding what causes the problem, the information, we

:04:26.:04:32.

hope we can treat it better and by treating a better we can get people

:04:33.:04:36.

back to sport, back to active activities and their daily living

:04:37.:04:39.

If this study is a success, it's hoped the work already done

:04:40.:04:46.

by vets on horses could help medics take great strides

:04:47.:04:50.

A singer who was told he could lose his voice to throat cancer is hoping

:04:51.:05:02.

to inspire other patients ` by recording a charity single.

:05:03.:05:04.

Ray Coates ` from Aylesbury ` did lose his voice and his sense

:05:05.:05:08.

Katharine da Costa's been to meet him.

:05:09.:05:14.

Six years ago, father`of`five Ray Coates from Aylesbury

:05:15.:05:21.

At 43 he was diagnosed with cancer of the tonsils and lymphnodes.

:05:22.:05:26.

He underwent surgery and radiotherapy.

:05:27.:05:27.

For a whole year he was unable to speak, work or even

:05:28.:05:30.

There was a period of isolation of a year and beyond where other

:05:31.:05:38.

people around me couldn't fully understand what I was experiencing.

:05:39.:05:43.

Gradually, Ray started writing music again and met Glynn, a music

:05:44.:05:47.

Together the pair have put together the Voice Within, a charity single

:05:48.:05:52.

The single mirrors Ray's own journey from diagnosis to surgery

:05:53.:06:03.

It is a cathartic experience because there was probably

:06:04.:06:09.

about two years of a bottleneck of emotion when I didn't write

:06:10.:06:15.

and then at the moment there is almost like a tidal wave of ideas,

:06:16.:06:19.

The Voice Within is already available for digital download.

:06:20.:06:34.

Ray and Glynn hope every penny raised

:06:35.:06:35.

will be spent on vital research into the causes and treatment of cancer.

:06:36.:06:40.

Alexis will be here with the regional weather forecast

:06:41.:06:42.

And Fog is a possibility tonight. The main thing tonight is the

:06:43.:07:00.

outbreak of rain would be on and off throughout the night. Light and

:07:01.:07:04.

patchy the most. Temperatures will fall to a mild 11 or 12 Celsius. The

:07:05.:07:11.

rain will continue tomorrow. With some sunny spell starting to break

:07:12.:07:14.

through the morning and afternoon, that could spark off one or two

:07:15.:07:18.

heavy thundery downpours and with a light winds, they could be

:07:19.:07:23.

slow`moving. Downpours tomorrow afternoon, highs of 17 Celsius.

:07:24.:07:29.

Staying unsettled through tomorrow and into Friday, high pressure

:07:30.:07:30.

starts to building looking weekend. My colleague John Hammond

:07:31.:07:34.

will have your national details right now.

:07:35.:07:38.

Hello. Some of us had a nice day. Others of you will be wondering if

:07:39.:07:44.

the sun will ever shine again. It's been another cloudy and damp day

:07:45.:07:49.

across many parts of the country. No more so than across the heart of

:07:50.:07:52.

northern England, where, through the heart of the day, with persistent

:07:53.:07:57.

rain, temperatures were no higher than 11 degrees. Disappointing for

:07:58.:08:00.

the end of May, I'm sure you will agree. We emerged into sunshine

:08:01.:08:05.

across the Irish Sea. For western parts of Northern Ireland we reached

:08:06.:08:09.

the dizzy heights of 21 degrees. Even here, you are going to join in

:08:10.:08:13.

the phone later tonight, with the rain crossing the Irish Sea as I

:08:14.:08:17.

speak. It's turning damp, with heavy bursts of rain possible,

:08:18.:08:21.

particularly damp across northern Ireland and northern England. The

:08:22.:08:25.

cloud is lowering onto the hills, so reduced visibility later tonight,

:08:26.:08:29.

particularly on high-level routes. Temperatures staying in double

:08:30.:08:33.

figures. A very slow start tomorrow, damp and misty in many places. Slow

:08:34.:08:40.

improvements, but we will see some bright spells developing across

:08:41.:08:43.

certain areas. Also, across the North. In

:08:44.:08:44.
