after five women from Oxfordshire developed breast cancer

after being given the all clear A further 30 women have been

contacted this week and asked to take further tests after their

medical records were reviewed. 60 women have also been contacted

in Buckinghamshire. NHS Trusts in Oxford

and Buckinghamshire have reassured patients that their breast screening

tests are reliable. In a moment, I'll be speaking to

Dr Eluned Hughes of the charity First Katharine Da

Costa has this report. All women aged between 50

and 70 are invited for breast If any abnormalities are identified,

they're called back for more tests. But in June

a serious incident investigation was launched in Oxfordshire after five

women who'd been given the all clear by the same doctor then went onto

develop breast cancer. The concern that we have is that

some tests were not carried out that might have been able to be at that

time, and if they had been carried out, might

have led to an earlier diagnosis. A review looked back at follow`up

assessments between 2011 and 2014. more than 600 women were tested,

the majority of whom were found to But further checks are being

of waiting for test results. Every time your mind is free to

think about anything else other than work or driving on whatever you're

the majority of these women there'll We are extremely sorry for the

distress that we know when announcements like this will cause,

but we are very confident that the service is safe.

The Trust says a recall like this is unusual.

As a precaution, Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust is also reviewing

60 of its cases dating back to 2005 ` when the doctor at the centre

No date's been set for when the investigation will report back,

but the doctor has stopped carrying out assessments in the meantime.

It is obviously very worrying that the situation has occurred, and it

is concerning for those 30 women who have been recalled for further

tests, however, we are reassured to hear that the situation is being

investigated and the women are being offered all

How reliable are breast screening techniques in picking up cancer?

The breast screening programme is based

on the best available evidence and we know that the three yearly screen

is the best method for detecting cancer early for the UK population.

How possible is it the women developed cancer after

We do know there are downsides to the screening, and sometimes

cancer can be missed because it doesn't appear on the x`ray.

Sometimes, women can develop breast cancer in that three year period.

That is why it is really important that for women,

even if they are attending breast screening, they still do remain

breast aware and we advise women to touch, look and check for any

unusual signs and go to their GP if they find anything unusual.

A high percentage of cancers are picked up by checking themselves?

Yes, that is right, and being breast aware and attending regular

screening is very important so that if breast cancer does develop, it is

The trust says it wants to be open and transparent

and that is why it has come forward with the story, it will inevitably

make someone anxious, how important is it that women are

not put off attending mammograms or putting faith in mammograms?

Breast screening is reliable and it does save lives,

that is why we do recommend that women go, but it is important that

they have the information about the risks and benefits

Association say flea eggs, which are tiny white flecks and can

been unoccupied, those flea cocoons could be set off again by the carbon

dioxide in people's breath. The advice then is to seek

veterinary advice and treat the site of infestations,

a Sussex man was unlawfully killed outside a nightclub in Brighton, his

brother has met the Police and Crime Commissioner for the county to seek

start any fresh proceedings against anybody and of course anyone who is

accused, who has already been acquitted, can obviously say a jury

European rules could put an end to two hundred years of growing

watercress on his small farm. The Environment Agency has told him
