There's been a dramatic risd in the number of young people being

:00:09.:00:11.

admitted to hospital in Oxfordshire for self`harming.

:00:12.:00:14.

In the past four years the number who've intention`lly

:00:15.:00:16.

taken an overdose or physic`lly hurt themselves has risen

:00:17.:00:19.

Niina Tamura has just moved into a new house in Banbury

:00:20.:00:29.

at Oxford University, but for a decade her life w`s

:00:30.:00:36.

If you have to resort to such methods to get some attention then

:00:37.:00:40.

that is a dysfunctional pattern and you should not be doing that

:00:41.:00:45.

and that is something that needs to be taken seriously.

:00:46.:00:48.

So I think never to brush it off because it takes some...

:00:49.:00:52.

So I think it should always be taken seriously.

:00:53.:01:03.

Using Freedom of Information laws BBC South has found that in 200 ,

:01:04.:01:06.

111 children under the age of 18 were admitted for overdoses.

:01:07.:01:09.

That increased to 132 in 2001 and peaked at 173 last year.

:01:10.:01:17.

Some of those patients were children as young as eight years old.

:01:18.:01:22.

Self harm is never completely safe but there are ways

:01:23.:01:24.

of trying to look after yourself and I think that is something that

:01:25.:01:27.

is really important for young people to know about while they trx to

:01:28.:01:31.

I don't think the risk of somebody working out how to self

:01:32.:01:39.

harm is a big enough reason for us not to talk about it.

:01:40.:01:42.

Oxfordshire offers tailored support to young people who frequently self

:01:43.:01:44.

harm including home visits and telephone support.

:01:45.:01:46.

Also the John Radcliffe Hospital has employed a child psychologist

:01:47.:01:48.

so mental health assessments can take place more quickly.

:01:49.:01:51.

It is incredible to me to think that I thought it was never to h`ppen `

:01:52.:01:56.

I was never going to recover ` but you can recover from these things.

:01:57.:02:06.

Seven childrens' centres in Swindon are threatened with closure as the

:02:07.:02:08.

Campaigners are opposing the plans which would see ftnding

:02:09.:02:13.

cut for around half of the town's children's centres.

:02:14.:02:15.

Two new facilities would also be built.

:02:16.:02:18.

A consultation is currently underway.

:02:19.:02:23.

The long`serving leader of South Oxfordshire District Council,

:02:24.:02:25.

Ann Ducker, has died following a short hllness.

:02:26.:02:27.

Ann was first elected as cotncillor for Goring back in 1983.

:02:28.:02:31.

She went on to serve as leader of the Conservative group,

:02:32.:02:33.

and also council chairman ` during an unbroken 32 year run.

:02:34.:02:36.

She was awarded an MBE in recognition of her public

:02:37.:02:38.

Disabled children from all over the country are taking

:02:39.:02:44.

part in the National Junior Games this week near Aylesbury.

:02:45.:02:47.

The competition, at the Stoke Mandeville Stadium, is seen as a big

:02:48.:02:49.

Adina Campbell has been finding out more.

:02:50.:02:52.

It is fast, fierce, but more than anything good fun

:02:53.:02:55.

Zone hockey is just one of many sports on offer herd

:02:56.:02:59.

Over next four days, 250 chhldren will be competing for medals as

:03:00.:03:08.

My favourite sport is probably the table tennis.

:03:09.:03:12.

I'm not very good at it but I enjoy it.

:03:13.:03:16.

You can get lost in it for hours, it is really fun.

:03:17.:03:19.

This competition has been running for more than 25 ye`rs.

:03:20.:03:21.

And the tracks scores from across the country.

:03:22.:03:23.

But this year there are no competitors from Oxfordshird

:03:24.:03:26.

Yes it is disappointing that there probably aren't any children

:03:27.:03:33.

from Oxfordshire or Buckinghamshire going there but there is

:03:34.:03:40.

an offer there now so that is something to build on.

:03:41.:03:42.

But these kinds of sports are becoming more accessible.

:03:43.:03:44.

More than ?300,000 of government funding was put towards helping

:03:45.:03:47.

young disabled people get involved in sports earlier this year.

:03:48.:03:49.

There are a lot of opportunhties out there especially within the school

:03:50.:03:52.

and local community, but also a lot of training opportunities as well to

:03:53.:03:55.

educate the school sports sdctor more about disability sport and how

:03:56.:03:58.

to make their sessions more inclusive.

:03:59.:04:02.

After huge events like the 2012 London Olympics and Paralympics

:04:03.:04:04.

and more recently the Invictus Games it is hard not to feel insphred

:04:05.:04:08.

The challenge now is to keep encouraging more young people

:04:09.:04:11.

After more seven years in office, The Bishop of Oxford is to retire

:04:12.:04:24.

As a way of saying goodbye to his diocese, the Right Reverend

:04:25.:04:29.

John Pritchard is leading a 10 day pilgrimage along the Thames.

:04:30.:04:32.

For the Bishop of Oxford this pilgrimage draws

:04:33.:04:43.

his seven years at the helm of the Oxford diocese towards an

:04:44.:04:48.

Three miles an hour is kind of the speed of the love of God

:04:49.:04:54.

It is not rushing, it is a human speed, so you have

:04:55.:04:58.

lots of good conversations and time to think, and time to

:04:59.:05:00.

engage with the reality of the world around you ` the landscape.

:05:01.:05:03.

And also the inscape ` the kind of stuff that is going on inside you.

:05:04.:05:07.

The route along the Thames Path through Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire

:05:08.:05:09.

The Right Reverend John Pritchard ` a seasoned walker has journdyed

:05:10.:05:17.

Himalayas and Sinai desert and all sorts of things.

:05:18.:05:20.

I'm very much at home getting down and walking.

:05:21.:05:23.

Quite a long afternoon but we will stop somewhere en route as well

:05:24.:05:26.

But it has been nice to stop here and just make use

:05:27.:05:29.

A core of 12 pilgrims are with him on every

:05:30.:05:35.

Many more joining for just ` day, each with their own reasons to come,

:05:36.:05:41.

each wanting to share a few moments before the bishop's retiremdnt.

:05:42.:05:46.

When I saw this pilgrimage advertised it was something I really

:05:47.:05:48.

wanted to do and I would have liked to h`ve been

:05:49.:05:51.

It is a time when you can mdet people, fellowship,

:05:52.:05:56.

He has been a great pastor H think to the whole diocese

:05:57.:06:00.

and a great leader in prayer and living the way we ought to live

:06:01.:06:06.

The bishop had heart surgerx just days ago so is spitting

:06:07.:06:09.

Each mile through his diocese getting closer to a new lifd.

:06:10.:06:20.

Life as bishop or as a clergy person doesn't stop, as it were, when you

:06:21.:06:24.

So I shall be doing lots of things, teaching and writing and tr`velling

:06:25.:06:28.

and being honorary assistant bishop in the North of England.

:06:29.:06:30.

This has been a great journdy for seven years here in Oxford diocese.

:06:31.:06:37.

We're back in BBC Breakfast tomorrow morning,

:06:38.:06:41.

but for now, goodnight, and with the weather here's Sarah Farmer

:06:42.:06:44.

Hello and a very good evening to xou.

:06:45.:06:49.

We have a chilly night ahead of us, clear spells overhead too.

:06:50.:06:53.

And where we have the light winds we will see one or

:06:54.:06:56.

two patches of mist and fog forming particularly in those rural spots.

:06:57.:06:59.

Temperatures in our towns and cities down to about eight or nine degrees

:07:00.:07:03.

but out in the countryside perhaps a touch lower, so we could well see

:07:04.:07:06.

A nippy start to the day first thing tomorrow morning.

:07:07.:07:11.

Any mist and fog lingering should ease away

:07:12.:07:13.

and we are set fine for much of the day with some good sunnx spells

:07:14.:07:16.

and the cloud beginning to thicken up as we head into the afternoon.

:07:17.:07:19.

Still pleasant sunshine with highs of 18.

:07:20.:07:23.

Taking a look ahead and with Wednesday we start perhaps

:07:24.:07:25.

with some outbreaks of rain but brightening later.

:07:26.:07:27.

Time to take a look now at your national forecast.

:07:28.:07:32.

Temperatures are not bad for the time of year.

:07:33.:07:44.

For much of the UK, this week will stay drier than average and warmer

:07:45.:07:51.

than average. We normally expect temperatures of around 22 degrees,

:07:52.:07:54.

but by the end of the week we could get into the low 20s. With clear

:07:55.:07:58.

skies at this time of year, it does turn chilly through the evening

:07:59.:08:04.

More cloud in the north, with a weak weather front producing patchy and

:08:05.:08:14.

light rain. Temperatures should stay in double figures underneath that

:08:15.:08:18.

area of cloud. To the north and south, we are getting fairly close

:08:19.:08:23.

to freezing in the countryside, so a chilly start tomorrow morning. Also

:08:24.:08:26.

the risk of patchy mist and fog especially down to the south-west,

:08:27.:08:29.

but that should clear by mid-morning.

:08:30.:08:33.
