Hello, good afternoon. Three severe flood warnings remain in place for

areas along the River Severn in Gloucestershire this afternoon.

While several properties around Maisemore did see water come into

their homes, the Somerset coast survived the high tides. Andy Howard

begins his report in Weston Super Mare.

The blues guys and high spring tides, sometimes you can struggle to

see the water at Weston beach, this morning, it was battering.

Coastguards were on alert, and onlookers were there. These

floodgates can be opened until this evening.

We were lucky. But I'd read as high as predicted, but without the wind

behind it, it stopped going over the sea wall. We have got to check the

forecast as we go on. There is another high tide tonight and

tomorrow, so we are keeping a close eye on the weather. We will be

prepared throughout. We have got the same stuff waiting and we are

prepared. The water did eventually make it to

Bristol. These temporary defences held firm and will be in place until

Monday. As for Somerset, eyes may well have turned from the views out

the window to the local newspaper. Prime Minister David Cameron has

called the situation on the Levels unacceptable in a letter to the

daily press. He says he will not rule out any option to get the

problem sorted. Custody services across Avon and

Somerset police won't be privatised. The Chief Constable was considering

letting a private company run the service but it's been stopped by Sue

Mountstevens, the Police and Crime Commissioner. She said privatisation

would cost an extra six hundred thousand pounds over the course of

the next four years. This summer three new custody centres will open

housing more cells in centralised locations.

Football now and Bristol City will try again to win their first match

of the year as they host Carlisle in League One. City remain in the

relegation zone, now three points from safety. Swindon will be hoping

for a victory to continue their push for a playoff place ` they're at

home to Oldham. Lee Johnson's side currently sitting 16th. In League

Two, Cheltenham Town could give debuts to two players as they meet

Northampton. Bristol City defender Mitch Brundle and Swansea midfielder

Lee Lucas both joined on loan in the transfer window's final days. And

Bristol Rovers are four points clear of the relegation zone as they

travel to Chesterfield. In Rugby Gloucester take on London

Wasps in the final group stage game of the LV Cup at Kingsholm. Kick off

there is at 3pm. In case you missed last night's

result Bath had a convincing win against Leicester in the same

competition. The victory secures a home tie for Bath in the semi finals

of the Cup. Bath ran in four tries including this one from Matt

Banahan. The final score: Bath 5, Leicester 17.

Let's get the latest weather forecast for the West with Hollie

Green. Heavy showers on the way for this

afternoon, and they are driven through on strong winds. We have a

yellow warning of wind in force Gusts could reach 65 miles per hour,

perhaps 70 and that is leading to a risk of coastal flooding, especially

for the River Severn where levels are high. Heavy showers running

through June the afternoon, forming bands at times, highs six and 2

degrees. Strong winds continue as we had through this evening, but they

will gradually ease overnight and the showers will tend to become or

scattered. Low temperatures of three or four degrees. Tomorrow, fewer

showers and today and wins a little lighter. More in the way of sunny
