Good afternoon. Coastal areas of Wales have largely escaped serious

flooding that had been predicted overnight. There had been warnings

that strong winds and high tides could have brought similar

disruption as that seen in the New Year. Our reporter Charlotte

Dubenskij is in Aberystwyth for us this lunchtime.

It is very wet and windy here on the promenade. Behind me, the iconic

1920s Bandstand stood a few weeks ago. Last night construction workers

were working to protect the promenade from the damage that was

caused a few weeks ago. The storm hasn't been anywhere near as severe

as the beginning of January but bad weather is predicted to come in

again this evening. After being battered in early January, many in

Aberystwyth would have feared the worst but this morning, along with

much of coastal rails, the town largely escaped flooding. It had

pitted did because of strong winds. The first high tide has already gone

without much impact to the promenade. The rules didn't have the

ferocity of the storms at the beginning of the New Year, but

despite that, natural resources Wales is urging people to stay away

from coastlines across Wales. Natural resources Wales had warned

conditions could be as bad as those we saw last month so many are

breathing a sigh of relief. The predictions were that we were going

to have a repeat of the storm we had in January but this morning, it

wasn't so bad. Predicting storms is not a science but we have to make

the proper arrangements and make sure that people are safe. In West

Wales there has been some disruption to train services around Llanelli,

but in Fishguard, the lower town which has been protected by bags of

aggregate, escaped any flooding. Back in Aberystwyth, some are

concerned whether warnings are having an adverse effect on

businesses and tourism. Certainly today, there are very few

people in the town. It is affecting the town as a whole.

More high tides are predicted across Wales 's coastline this evening.

People are living the coast are still being urged to be prepared.

Eleven councils across Wales are to share ?100 million for regeneration

projects. Among the grants from the Welsh Government, Newport has

received the highest amount of ?15 million, which is partly to be used

for new housing. Wrexham will receive more than ?10 million.

Football and Swansea City are around 20 minutes into their Premier League

match at struggling West Ham. The latest score is West Ham Miller,

Swansea nil. Cardiff host Norwich later.

In Rugby, Wales begin their attempt to make history later when they face

Italy at the Millennium Stadium. No team has won the title three years

Our concern this afternoon as the strength of the room. A yellow

warning from The Met office. Locally, 70 miles an hour on exposed

parts of the coast. Combined with high tides, there is a risk of

coastal flooding. Showers and spells of rain and working across through

Wales. Tomorrow, about a day, fewer showers, slightly lighter winds and

a brief response because male rat and windy weather to come next week.
