to British coastlines, with winds of up to 80 mph. That's all from | :00:00. | :00:00.
Welcome to Wales Today. Our top story: The storm takes its toll as | :00:07. | :00:10.
engineers battle appalling conditions to restore power to | :00:11. | :00:13.
thousands of homes. A man has died in hospital after being hit by a | :00:14. | :00:21.
falling tree. The weather has been horrendous. It | :00:22. | :00:27.
is the worst I've ever known it and conditions are awful. We have been | :00:28. | :00:31.
working 18 hour days and we are trying our best to get customers | :00:32. | :00:33.
back on. 9,000 customers are still without | :00:34. | :00:36.
power - tonight its heavy rain and gale force winds that are cause for | :00:37. | :00:38.
concern. Our other headlines: Parents of | :00:39. | :00:54.
pupils who's teacher admitted filming children using a toilet | :00:55. | :00:58.
elsewhere seek legal advice. The leader of the Welsh | :00:59. | :01:00.
Conservatives faces a growing crisis over his leadership. | :01:01. | :01:05.
These men spent years in prison for a crime they didn't commit - when | :01:06. | :01:09.
will police publish their report into what went wrong? | :01:10. | :01:14.
And the largest fire on Borth Peat Bog for 20 years. Fire crews spend | :01:15. | :01:23.
hours trying to control the flames. I think we have had just about | :01:24. | :01:27.
everything. We have had the fire, the float and the pestilence as we | :01:28. | :01:32.
only got our electric back last night. | :01:33. | :01:37.
Good evening. The storm has claimed the life of an elderly man. Bob | :01:38. | :01:40.
Thomas was 77. He died after being hit by a falling tree in his garden | :01:41. | :01:44.
near Caernarfon. Tonight the Met office has issued a yellow "be | :01:45. | :01:47.
aware" warning for heavy rain and wind overnight and into tomorrow. | :01:48. | :01:49.
ScottishPower which supplies customers in north and mid Wales say | :01:50. | :01:53.
a further four thousand properties lost power today. That's on top of | :01:54. | :01:58.
the 8,7000 homes still without electricity as a result of | :01:59. | :02:06.
Wednesday's storm. And on it goes. Moore wins today, | :02:07. | :02:13.
rain and some snow and news of a death caused by Wednesday's storm. | :02:14. | :02:18.
77-year-old Bob Thomas was hurt when a tree fell on him in the garden of | :02:19. | :02:26.
his home in Caeathro. He died in hospital where he was being treated | :02:27. | :02:30.
for head injuries. It is very sad fact at the height of | :02:31. | :02:35.
the storm on Wednesday, he was thinking of his animals and making | :02:36. | :02:42.
sure the chickens were safe. That is when the accident happened. By | :02:43. | :02:48.
comparison, the problems other of us face pale away but they are problems | :02:49. | :02:52.
nonetheless. We caught up with a crew of power | :02:53. | :02:57.
workers, and trying to reconnect communities. | :02:58. | :03:02.
This team has been working virtually around the clock, finishing at 1am | :03:03. | :03:08.
and starting again at 7am. Who knows what problems the new storm will | :03:09. | :03:14.
bring. The work isn't easy and seems never-ending. The weather has been | :03:15. | :03:19.
horrendous. It is the worst I've ever known it | :03:20. | :03:23.
and the conditions are awful. We have been working 18 hour days and | :03:24. | :03:26.
are doing our best to get customers back on. | :03:27. | :03:32.
Hastie refers to a roof elsewhere and at the fire station they have a | :03:33. | :03:36.
generator, but most are having to manage without any power. In the | :03:37. | :03:41.
village shop they are using a gas lamp and torches. | :03:42. | :03:48.
We have coped for a couple of days but now it is getting a little bit | :03:49. | :03:54.
worse. We have a coal fire and I've just bought a gas fire for the | :03:55. | :03:57.
kitchen this morning so then we will be OK. I sympathise with the elderly | :03:58. | :04:02.
in the village because they have no gas or electric at all and without | :04:03. | :04:09.
that, they can't cook their food. And it is concerned for an elderly | :04:10. | :04:14.
neighbour which is bringing this woman out with an owner of hot water | :04:15. | :04:20.
for tea and coffee. Yesterday she had no heating and was | :04:21. | :04:26.
snuggled up on the chair, covered in blankets. It was 12 degrees in her | :04:27. | :04:35.
house yesterday. The electricity here went on | :04:36. | :04:39.
Wednesday and more of it lost power in today's storm. Road and rail | :04:40. | :04:47.
journeys remain disruptive. Many people are choosing not to travel. | :04:48. | :04:53.
And so the bad weather continues. This is the River Wye at Monmouth. | :04:54. | :04:58.
And a review into storm damage in January and December has found that | :04:59. | :05:01.
less than 1% of properties here actually flooded. Natural Resources | :05:02. | :05:04.
Wales says most defences held - but repair work is now needed at many of | :05:05. | :05:10.
them. Our environment correspondent Iolo ap Dafydd has been reading the | :05:11. | :05:16.
report. This is the first assessment of the | :05:17. | :05:19.
storm damage on coastal defences so far. What are the main findings? | :05:20. | :05:26.
Here it is. It concentrates on December and January, not the last | :05:27. | :05:31.
two weeks. And in terms of the Welsh government | :05:32. | :05:34.
publishing this today, it shows that 305 properties were floated in North | :05:35. | :05:40.
Wales before Christmas as well as last month in coastal areas and that | :05:41. | :05:46.
has taken a positive outlook because that is less than 1% of the at risk | :05:47. | :05:54.
properties. That means it was 99% successful in terms of defending | :05:55. | :05:57.
other properties. If we look at the coastal defences which were damaged, | :05:58. | :06:05.
175 in total, December and January, and the repair cost for that to | :06:06. | :06:11.
reinstate these defences is ?8.1 million. It is not just properties, | :06:12. | :06:20.
it is also farmland, roads, railways and the Wales coast path has 70 | :06:21. | :06:26.
locations and a repair cost of ?340 -- ?340,000. This needs to be | :06:27. | :06:32.
completed as soon as possible and it could be a lot worse. The defences | :06:33. | :06:38.
did stop the worst of the weather in taxing a lot of the poor but some of | :06:39. | :06:43.
them were damaged and they do need to be repaired. | :06:44. | :06:47.
If we look to the future and the impact of climate change, we can | :06:48. | :06:53.
expect this kind of extreme weather again so it is important investment | :06:54. | :06:56.
continues in those defences and we do our best. What about the cost of | :06:57. | :07:03.
investment and repair in future? Just over ?8 million to repair what | :07:04. | :07:07.
has already been damaged in two months. | :07:08. | :07:11.
The clean-up cost is extra. The Welsh government announced an extra | :07:12. | :07:17.
?1 million today to add to the ?3.5 million which has already been | :07:18. | :07:23.
pledged in the last nine weeks. There is a shortfall, it is half of | :07:24. | :07:27.
what that role resources Wales are suggesting should be spent and in | :07:28. | :07:35.
future we understand they will be speaking to the government to see if | :07:36. | :07:37.
there are EU structural funds to help reinstate these defences. | :07:38. | :07:45.
This doesn't include the last two weeks of nightmarish weather, | :07:46. | :07:50.
doesn't? This is only for January and | :07:51. | :07:54.
December and doesn't include the last two weeks. There will be a | :07:55. | :07:58.
second phase in April which will look at lessons learnt and what | :07:59. | :08:05.
needs to be structurally looked after and possibly which communities | :08:06. | :08:09.
cannot be looked at, cannot be defended in future. | :08:10. | :08:12.
Parents of pupils at a secondary school in Cardiff are consulting | :08:13. | :08:15.
solicitors after children were allegedly secretly filmed at the | :08:16. | :08:19.
school. It follows guilty pleas for voyeurism by the deputy headteacher | :08:20. | :08:22.
at Ysgol Glantaf last month involving a hidden camera at another | :08:23. | :08:27.
location. Further investigations lead dectectives to the school and | :08:28. | :08:30.
that's now prompted some parents to seek legal advice. Nick Palit | :08:31. | :08:36.
reports. On the 31st of January, 47-year-old | :08:37. | :08:39.
Gareth Williams appeared at Cardiff Magistrates Court on three charges | :08:40. | :08:44.
of voyeurism. That involved a camera hidden in a toilet. Acting on | :08:45. | :08:48.
information police recovered the camera and memory sticks with files | :08:49. | :08:53.
of five children. The Welsh-medium deputy head pleaded guilty to | :08:54. | :08:56.
recording to another person without their consent for the purpose of | :08:57. | :09:00.
sexual gratification. But those charges did not relate to any | :09:01. | :09:03.
offences at the school where he taught. Since then police have | :09:04. | :09:07.
widened their investigation to include Ysgol Glantaf. Sources have | :09:08. | :09:10.
told BBC Wales that teachers, parents and pupils have been spoken | :09:11. | :09:13.
to by police about alleged secret filming at the school. Now some | :09:14. | :09:18.
worried parents have been seeking legal advice. | :09:19. | :09:25.
If it is found that children have been filmed on school premises, in | :09:26. | :09:32.
the toilets, then there is undoubtedly a claim for their | :09:33. | :09:36.
children by their parents as a breach of privacy. And the nature of | :09:37. | :09:44.
the breach is obviously extremely serious. | :09:45. | :09:48.
Last week the headteacher here wrote to parents of the 1,500 pupils to | :09:49. | :09:51.
inform them that police officers had been given full access to the school | :09:52. | :09:55.
to carry out their investigations. He also acknowledged that the | :09:56. | :09:57.
situation was extremely concerning for everyone involved with the | :09:58. | :10:02.
school. Meanwhile Mr Williams has been suspended from his post here | :10:03. | :10:06.
and is due to appear before Cardiff Crown Court on the 21st of this | :10:07. | :10:13.
month for sentencing. The Chief Executive of | :10:14. | :10:16.
Carmarthenshire Council has tonight stepped down from his post amid a | :10:17. | :10:18.
police investigation into payments he received. The issue also brought | :10:19. | :10:24.
together councillors in Pembrokeshire today, many of whom | :10:25. | :10:26.
were left disappointed as attempts to discuss the position of their | :10:27. | :10:33.
Chief Executive failed. Let's speak to Cemlyn Davies who is in | :10:34. | :10:38.
Haverfordwest. I know you are in Pembrokeshire but | :10:39. | :10:43.
let's start in Carmarthen and what happened there today. | :10:44. | :10:49.
Yes. The cheese executive -- the Chief Executive has been under | :10:50. | :10:55.
pressure since those reports were published before now to go and they | :10:56. | :10:59.
concluded that the decision to allow Mark James to receive direct | :11:00. | :11:03.
payments in lieu of pension contributions for tax reasons was | :11:04. | :11:09.
unlawful and so was the decision to cover his legal cost as he pursues a | :11:10. | :11:15.
libel claim. Police investigations are underway and tonight we heard | :11:16. | :11:19.
that Mark James has stepped aside. The leader of Carmarthenshire | :11:20. | :11:24.
Council said that decision was reached by mutual agreement that | :11:25. | :11:30.
meanwhile he says he was absolutely certain that neither he or any of | :11:31. | :11:35.
his officers has done anything wrong but it was only right and proper | :11:36. | :11:38.
that he should not be in the office whilst the police conclude their | :11:39. | :11:44.
enquiries. That is Carmarthenshire. In Pembrokeshire an extra week | :11:45. | :11:51.
meeting taking place today -- and extraordinary meeting. | :11:52. | :11:55.
Yes. They were discussing a similar report from the auditors which found | :11:56. | :11:59.
an opt out pension scheme was unlawful. | :12:00. | :12:05.
It was the senior officer and Chief Executive who had been using that | :12:06. | :12:10.
opt out scheme. The council is here voted in favour of a motion to scrap | :12:11. | :12:16.
that policy but then there was this extraordinary twist because when it | :12:17. | :12:20.
came to a debate to discuss the future of the Chief Executive the | :12:21. | :12:23.
Council barrister read out a number of newspaper quotes are committed to | :12:24. | :12:28.
local councillors about the Chief Executive and he advised those | :12:29. | :12:31.
councillors that they shouldn't take part in the debate, saying their | :12:32. | :12:37.
minds had already been made up for hearing any argument. With that, 20 | :12:38. | :12:43.
councillors walked out and the motion was withdrawn. That provoked | :12:44. | :12:49.
a ferocious response from opposition councillors. It's incredible what | :12:50. | :12:54.
has happened here today and I really hope people watching understand just | :12:55. | :12:59.
what lengths these guys are willing to go to to protect their own. | :13:00. | :13:03.
They are interested in protecting themselves. | :13:04. | :13:08.
It is about the perception of taking decisions and the assurance that you | :13:09. | :13:11.
have not predetermined that positions. That led to quite a | :13:12. | :13:18.
number, slightly naively, I thought, having to leave the chamber for | :13:19. | :13:21.
comments they had made to the press and public. | :13:22. | :13:26.
Those police investigations are continuing in Carmarthenshire and | :13:27. | :13:29.
here in Pembrokeshire, where it seems there will be some time yet | :13:30. | :13:33.
before the storm clouds clear. The leader of the Welsh | :13:34. | :13:36.
Conservatives faces a growing crisis over his leadership tonight. The | :13:37. | :13:38.
Management Board of the Welsh Conservatives have been holding | :13:39. | :13:41.
emergency talks, to discuss the controversial sacking of four Tory | :13:42. | :13:45.
Assembly Members. They were removed from the front bench by the Welsh | :13:46. | :13:49.
leader, Andrew RT Davies. Our Welsh Affairs Editor, Vaughan Roderick, is | :13:50. | :13:56.
in Cardiff Bay. Guess it is fair to say that Lord is not happy with | :13:57. | :14:01.
what's been going on with the leader? That's putting it mildly. | :14:02. | :14:09.
We spoke to multiple senior sources within the Welsh Conservatives and | :14:10. | :14:14.
the same phrases came up. Zero support for Andrew RT Davies. He | :14:15. | :14:22.
faced 100% universal criticism. This is the senior board, the people who | :14:23. | :14:26.
run the party in Wales and they are deeply angry with the way he has | :14:27. | :14:31.
behaved. Can he actually do anything? They | :14:32. | :14:35.
can't do anything about getting rid of Andrew RT Davies because he was | :14:36. | :14:40.
elected by members but as a member of the dash as a measure of the | :14:41. | :14:44.
anger, the control the selection process and they want members of the | :14:45. | :14:49.
board to stop him even being a candidate at the next Assembly | :14:50. | :14:53.
election. A Shadow member could be on the way | :14:54. | :14:59.
to the backbenches? We've been told that one member of the Shadow | :15:00. | :15:03.
Cabinet is considering resigning. He didn't vote on Tuesday but he is | :15:04. | :15:13.
considering his position. This story is all based on bizarre, anonymous | :15:14. | :15:20.
quotes, says some sources. I know where the quotes come from and if | :15:21. | :15:25.
Andrew RT Davies's office knew where they had been coming from, they | :15:26. | :15:28.
would be very concerned indeed. Much more to come before seven | :15:29. | :15:31.
o'clock. Cardiff City say they're still up for the FA Cup, despite | :15:32. | :15:34.
their relegation scrap. We'll preview the fifth round ties. | :15:35. | :15:37.
And after another storm batters the country is there an end in sight? A | :15:38. | :15:39.
full weekend weather forecast. Three men wrongly jailed for ten | :15:40. | :15:49.
years for a crime they didn't commit and tonight questions for South | :15:50. | :15:52.
Wales Police taking too long to publish the report into the way it | :15:53. | :15:57.
carried out a murder inquiry. An investigation into claims evidence | :15:58. | :15:59.
was fabricated in the Phillip Saunders murder case was launched | :16:00. | :16:09.
four years ago. Paul Martin reports. Philip Saunders was robbed and | :16:10. | :16:15.
killed in 1987 after he arrived home with his debut as macro takings. | :16:16. | :16:19.
Three young men, Darren Hall, Ellis Sherwood and Michael O'Brien were | :16:20. | :16:27.
wrongly convicted of his murder. They were released after an | :16:28. | :16:34.
investigation. We want answers. In response to Michael O'Brien's | :16:35. | :16:38.
allegation that evidence was fabricated, the independent piece | :16:39. | :16:45.
contains commission set up operation resolute -- police complaints | :16:46. | :16:47.
commission. None of its findings have been made | :16:48. | :16:54.
public and in this case it is the police who control publication. If | :16:55. | :17:01.
they do this, I think that would be closure for me and I'm going to move | :17:02. | :17:03.
on. I don't want people thinking I'm | :17:04. | :17:06.
this evil person who would kill someone because that is not me. In | :17:07. | :17:12.
the yearling process -- in the healing process, reconciliation is | :17:13. | :17:18.
important. In October, BBC Wales asked to see a report of the draft | :17:19. | :17:22.
report but on Monday come South Wales Police told us we couldn't | :17:23. | :17:26.
have won because although there was a public interest in giving it to | :17:27. | :17:29.
us, that was outweighed by other factors such as the risk of it are | :17:30. | :17:33.
undermining efforts to find the killer of Philip Saunders. | :17:34. | :17:38.
The police said last night that once the report was finalised it intends | :17:39. | :17:48.
to publish it. The chief told us that he plans to publish the report | :17:49. | :17:54.
in as much detail as possible. How long will this take? | :17:55. | :17:58.
It has taken nearly four years already. How deeply redacted will it | :17:59. | :18:04.
be? I seen documents in this place redacted to a ridiculous extent. If | :18:05. | :18:08.
they are redacted beyond common sense, that is no disclosure | :18:09. | :18:12.
whatsoever. As soon as the report has been | :18:13. | :18:16.
submitted to the Independent Police Complaints Commission and they have | :18:17. | :18:22.
made a comment on it, which has to be the process, everything that can | :18:23. | :18:25.
be published will be published. South Wales Police told us a date | :18:26. | :18:30.
for that publication is yet to be determined. | :18:31. | :18:33.
It's been described as the largest fire on Borth Bog for more than 20 | :18:34. | :18:37.
years. Fire crews spent hours trying to control the flames, which were | :18:38. | :18:40.
burning close to the village near Aberystwyth. Our mid Wales reporter | :18:41. | :18:46.
Charlotte Dubenskij has the story. Fire swept across this part of the | :18:47. | :18:51.
national nature reserve for a number of hours earlier today. That will be | :18:52. | :18:56.
sources Wales which manages the area says it is the largest fire on Borth | :18:57. | :19:05.
Bog for more than 20 years. Thick smoke was blown across the railway | :19:06. | :19:10.
tracks, covering homes and businesses. The fire that was | :19:11. | :19:14.
burning furiously this morning has died down but at its peak the flames | :19:15. | :19:19.
were several feet high and residents say they were concerned for their | :19:20. | :19:22.
properties. I was on my laptop, seeing if any of | :19:23. | :19:27.
the schools were open and I saw a picture of the fire. I opened my | :19:28. | :19:33.
curtain and there it was. It keeps dying down but there is | :19:34. | :19:37.
such a strong wind it is whipping up the flames again. It is getting | :19:38. | :19:41.
close to the caravan park. These pictures show the X dent of the fire | :19:42. | :19:48.
and helpless it was to some homes. The fire consumed an area around the | :19:49. | :19:53.
size of a rugby pitch. Natural Resources Wales says damage is | :19:54. | :19:59.
minimal. It hasn't damaged the peat below. Borth Bog Is one of the most | :20:00. | :20:07.
extensive and relatively undamaged peat bogs in Britain. | :20:08. | :20:13.
It can be used as a management process but uncontrolled burning can | :20:14. | :20:18.
have disastrous effects because you are not controlling it and it can | :20:19. | :20:23.
burn all types of vegetation and destroy some of the mosses that are | :20:24. | :20:28.
completely key for a viable and healthy peatland. The fire has been | :20:29. | :20:33.
put out but it is not known what caused it. | :20:34. | :20:39.
Should Wales get its own edition of Newsnight? A campaign group says a | :20:40. | :20:42.
Welsh version would give viewers the chance to see politicians | :20:43. | :20:45.
interviewed in depth about policies that are decided in the National | :20:46. | :20:55.
Assembly. David Cornock reports. It is the TV studio where government | :20:56. | :21:00.
ministers fear to tread. I'm not asking for a running commentary, I'm | :21:01. | :21:03.
asking for a statement of facts about when you are told. | :21:04. | :21:09.
This is where Jeremy Paxman and the Newsnight presenters interrogate | :21:10. | :21:15.
politicians in programmes seen across the United Kingdom but if you | :21:16. | :21:20.
live in Scotland, something else cabins. He was in Scotland have | :21:21. | :21:29.
their own 20 minute version. Now campaigners want a Newsnight Wales | :21:30. | :21:35.
in English and Welsh. Maybe not everybody watches Newsnight Scotland | :21:36. | :21:40.
but those stories that are discussed are discussed then in social media | :21:41. | :21:46.
and filter down to the press so we feel that holding our politicians to | :21:47. | :21:52.
account through social programmes is very important. | :21:53. | :21:59.
A Welsh Newsnight opt out was launched in 1999 with some youthful | :22:00. | :22:07.
looking reporters. The programme was dropped two years later. Many may be | :22:08. | :22:11.
even tighter now but some politicians say it's time to try | :22:12. | :22:14.
again. The funding the BBC has could be | :22:15. | :22:19.
moved differently, making space in the Newsnight slot. | :22:20. | :22:27.
The BBC licence fee has been frozen until 2017. It says the approach to | :22:28. | :22:33.
this challenge is to prioritise outputs during peak hours, when more | :22:34. | :22:38.
people are watching and listening. Nobody from the BBC was available | :22:39. | :22:41.
for interview but in a statement it said: | :22:42. | :22:51.
So our viewers really missing out? Would anyone watch a programme about | :22:52. | :22:57.
Welsh politics at 11pm? You would have to say it is unlikely that BBC | :22:58. | :23:03.
Wales is going to want to put the kind of resources into producing a | :23:04. | :23:06.
Welsh Newsnight. It is hard to see that happening. My | :23:07. | :23:12.
guess is that they are already stretched and they would like to see | :23:13. | :23:15.
resources bolstering their existing programming. | :23:16. | :23:19.
Newsnight can be campaigners say it is an idea whose time has come but | :23:20. | :23:26.
Newsnight Scotland is being replaced by a new programme in the run-up to | :23:27. | :23:29.
the independence referendum in September. | :23:30. | :23:33.
Football. Both Cardiff and Swansea say they're delighted to still be in | :23:34. | :23:36.
the FA Cup, even though they're involved in a scrap to avoid | :23:37. | :23:39.
relegation from the Premier League. Cardiff host Cup holders Wigan | :23:40. | :23:42.
Athletic in the fifth round tomorrow, while new Swansea boss | :23:43. | :23:45.
Garry Monk will face one of his managerial mentors - as they travel | :23:46. | :23:48.
to Everton on Sunday. Here's Ashleigh Crowter. | :23:49. | :23:56.
Some managers say the cut is no longer important but not Ole Gunner | :23:57. | :24:01.
Solskjaer. He won it as a player and would love Cardiff to do the same. | :24:02. | :24:06.
Tomorrow they face Wigan athletic who lifted the cup last season in | :24:07. | :24:09.
the days after getting relegated from the Premier League. That is a | :24:10. | :24:15.
fate Cardiff are desperate to avoid and their manager thinks that | :24:16. | :24:19.
advancing could help their chances of staying up. The chance to build | :24:20. | :24:24.
momentum and a chance for guys to play more Games, get match fit, | :24:25. | :24:30.
because there is still another week until the next game. | :24:31. | :24:36.
It is a chance for clubs like Wigan and Cardiff to win a trophy. Five | :24:37. | :24:44.
seasons ago, Garry Monk and Roberto Martinez sat side-by-side but on | :24:45. | :24:49.
Sunday they will be an opposite dugouts as the Swans travel to | :24:50. | :24:55.
Everton. He was my captain when I first came | :24:56. | :25:00.
here so I got to form a really good bond with him and we all did as | :25:01. | :25:05.
players. He was a fantastic leader and then he came back as manager, | :25:06. | :25:09.
which was a good experience in itself and we all heard about the | :25:10. | :25:14.
fact he is a promising manager so I know how good he is. | :25:15. | :25:20.
Newport County, who have suffered a spate of home postponements, will | :25:21. | :25:25.
renew their challenge at Hartlepool but the right weather has already | :25:26. | :25:29.
claimed Wrexham's conference hatch at Braintree. | :25:30. | :25:33.
The all-important weather forecast. It has been a wet and windy | :25:34. | :25:43.
Valentine's Day across Wales. A Met Office warning for heavy rain | :25:44. | :25:48.
remains in place. We have also seen some snow in the hills and part of | :25:49. | :25:54.
Ceredigion. This picture has been sent in, very windy but not as | :25:55. | :26:00.
severe as Wednesday with gusts of 70 mph. The chart shows this latest | :26:01. | :26:07.
area of low pressure, the third in a week, clearing north-east with | :26:08. | :26:14.
across the UK so that band of rain continuing. Remaining very windy and | :26:15. | :26:19.
reaching gale force a long exposed coasts with temperatures between | :26:20. | :26:22.
five and seven Celsius. Blustery showers tomorrow through the morning | :26:23. | :26:29.
but not quite as windy today, turning drier and brighter through | :26:30. | :26:34.
the afternoon. Feeling chilly as the wind turns north-westerly and highs | :26:35. | :26:39.
of six Celsius in Wrexham. A brief ridge of high pressure building on | :26:40. | :26:42.
Saturday into Sunday so more settled on Sunday before this next front | :26:43. | :26:48.
arrives. It try and break today that it will cloud over from the West | :26:49. | :26:55.
later on. The next weather system moving in, bringing rain from the | :26:56. | :26:59.
West. After a dry day, further wet and windy weather Sunday night into | :27:00. | :27:04.
Monday morning. Next week the jet stream which has been pushing the | :27:05. | :27:09.
storms across the Atlantic starts to move northwards so we will see | :27:10. | :27:12.
storms easing and it will be less windy and we will see some dry | :27:13. | :27:17.
spells. Message left extreme -- much less extreme weather next week. | :27:18. | :27:21.
The headlines from the BBC: The recent storm has claimed the life of | :27:22. | :27:26.
an elderly man near Caernarfon. Bob Thomas, who was 77, died after being | :27:27. | :27:30.
hit by a falling tree in his garden. Tonight, the Met office has issued a | :27:31. | :27:33.
yellow "be aware" warning for heavy rain and wind. | :27:34. | :27:36.
I'll have an update for you here at 8:00pm and after the BBC News at | :27:37. | :27:40.
Ten. That's Wales Today. Thank you for watching, have a great weekend. | :27:41. | :27:41.
