Good evening. Engineers working to reconnect

thousands of homes without electricity say they hope to restore

power to all those affected by midnight. A further 1,000 properties

were cut-off in strong winds overnight. A pregnant woman and her

unborn baby have died after a car crash on the Heads of the Valleys

Road. Two cars collided between Brynmawr and Garnlydan in Blaenau

Gwent last night. The woman, who was 20 and from Tredegar, died in

hospital. More than 100 students have been protesting over the future

of Aberystwyth University's Welsh-medium hall of residence.

Pantycelyn has been traditionally where Welsh-speaking students stay.

The university is developing new halls, meaning Pantycelyn could be

redeveloped, but some students claim the new halls would harm the

Welsh-speaking student community. Cardiff City have been knocked out

of the FA Cup. They lost to Wigan 2-1 in the fifth round. After

falling behind, Frazier Campbell equalised for the Bluebirds. But a

free-kick from Ben Watson ensured the cup holders a place in the

quarterfinals. Swansea face Everton in the cup tomorrow. Elsewhere,

Newport County lost 3-0 away at Hartlepool in League Two.

A figure skater from Cardiff is preparing to make his debut at the

Winter Olympics. But Lloyd Jones won't be representing Great Britain.

The 25-year-old now competes for France, after moving abroad to find

a new skating partner and better training facilities.

controversial sacking of four Shadow Cabinet members. Andrew RT Davies

sacked them for rebelling against him in a vote on devolving income

tax. Senior figures said there was "zero support" at a Welsh

Conservatives board meeting for Mr Davies' decision. But the party said

leaks from that meeting were "bizarre".
