too common in event now. I've spent the day in Llanidloes

where people have been expressing their condolences to the relatives

of those who died. Hundreds gather in Cardiff Bay to

protest against plans to move specialist baby care from

Pembrokeshire to Camrarthenshire. It is too far when you are in

labour. It is just ridiculous. It is ridiculous to expect due to travel

all that way in the back of an ambulance.

They might not want to row for Oxford or Cambridge

but how do we get more students to our top universities?

An 18-month-old girl is in a serious condition in hospital tonight

following a crash which killed her mother and three other members of

her extended family at an accident black spot near Aberystwyth.

Holly Hind, from Llanidloes, was a passenger in a car when it

collided with a tanker on the A44 close to Llangurig yesterday.

Scene not unimaginable carnage. These fixed issue with the aftermath

of the crash with a car crashed beneath the tanker. Emergency crews

including two ambulances raced to it. A lady knocked my door and asked

to use the telephone and if I could ring for the emergency services

because there was a very, very bad accident down the road about a mile

from here. I did that of course. This evening, police are trying to

piece together what happened and what anybody who can help to come

forward. The collision occurred approximately at five to three in

the afternoon. The Ford focus was travelling east, the transit van was

travelling behind it and the tanker was coming in the opposite

direction. Our thoughts and sympathies are with the families at

this difficult time. Next of kin are being kept informed and are being

supported. This stretch of the A44 between Llangurig on a mistress was

closed for several hours before opening this morning. It was

identified in European road safety report last October as the highest

risk road in Wales, one of the worst in Britain. Winding corners make it

especially hazardous. It is now claimed for more lives despite calls

for the Welsh Government to do more to improve safety on the trunk road.

Whenever we get in touch there has never been in fatalities. How many

fatalities due need? I use imagine one fatalities enough. -- the

feathers have been named as Margaret Keogh, John Keogh and Alison Hind.

Her 18-month-old daughter, Holly Hind, is being treated in Cardiff

with her father at her side. Friends and neighbours in Llanidloes have

been shattered by the tragedy. Three of them were my neighbours. I don't

think half the estate has slept. Martyn Pugh was that a good

neighbour. Dreadful. He was a lovely boy. Lovely nature. So quiet. I'm

absolutely horrified. We had a close community and the thought of four

people being taken just like that overnight is a great blow and we all

feel it's because we care for each other and we have very, very close.

Both publicly and behind the closed doors of the quiet street people are

offering their condolences and whatever comfort they can. Though

saddened, few are surprised the A44 has added to its grim toll.

People in the Towner understandably and obviously deeply upset about

what has happened. Of course. I spent the day he and

when tragedy of scale happens in somewhere so small it dominates

conversation may have been listening to people telling each other in

coffee shop and over the garden fence really what has happened. The

news has been spreading quickly. People have said to me they can't

Holly Hind is still in hospital tonight. That is right. 18-month-old

Holly Hind was rescued from the wreckage, taken by air ambulance to

the University Hospital of Wales. We understand her father is at her

bedside this evening. People in this area are praying for her to pull

through. That might be some limit of hope to come from this terrible

tragedy which has rocked the small place of four very special people

who were close to many people 's hearts here. It's a dominates their

thoughts over the next few days. To get more Welsh students

into top universities like Oxford and Cambridge,

a network of hubs should be set up. That's the finding of a report,

which showed that Welsh students are less likely to get

a place than their peers Here's our education correspondent,

only the very best get in. Fewer pupils from Wales and accepted

competitors are part of the UK. In 2008, just under 400 pupils from

Wales applied to Oxford with 84 getting in. Last year, the numbers

of Welsh pupils who tried got in. In England, the figure is 23%. Today

this month Oxford graduate and Torfaen MP said more support. He

wants to see 12 hubs across Wales that'll coach of them to help them

get into top universities. Bringing them together and they will realise

that people like them elsewhere as well. If you get peer group

together, that is important. Perhaps more importantly, the lack of

self-confidence we need to put into a student. This man knows all about

that self-confidence. He has just finished his second year studying

biology at Oxford and goes to schools to tell pupils it isn't a

straight as they might think. Looking back, here members have

overwhelming it can be to make that application. The initial fine point,

it was daunting. It wasn't until I did the research I realised I could

afford it financially and I do have the entry requirements. I felt a lot

better about it. How exactly would the 12 hubs work with Mike these

pupils already benefits from a similar scheme that has been running

there for several years. Once a week we will meet up and we will practice

for mock interviews, look over personal statements. We have to

learn how to think critically. It is a completely different style of

thinking. But how easy will it be to replicate that scheme across Wales

Margaret Keogh you have got tutors who are delivering a levels and

nothing else. They know the curriculum and the examining board,

the admission tutors. You need a critical mass. It can be spread

across that not everywhere. Education Minister says work should

begin immediately on a pilot project to set up the new hopes. While

Oxford and Cambridge are not the be all and end all, giving our

brightest to -- who pulls the chance to study here is seen as raising the

bar for everyone. The Welsh Ambulance Service says

it's investigating its response to a fire in Carmarthen on Sunday, after

which a three-year-old girl died. Dyfed Powys Police confirmed that

Angel Jade Smith was taken to Glangwili Hospital

in a police vehicle. She was later transferred to

the University Hospital of Wales, where she died,

a year to the day since her baby Their mother, Alice Smith, is still

in a serious condition in hospital. Two doormen at a Bangor nightclub

have told an inquest they felt there was nothing wrong with

the way they restrained a man who Hywel Hughes had been ejected

from the Joop club. Medical reports suggest he died of

schools are to close. Trefilan school will shut

after parents agreed to transfer their children to Dihewyd school six

from Pembrokeshire today to protest at plans to downgrade services

at Withybush Hospital. Some neonatal services are set to

workers across south Wales, the insurance company generated ?2

billion of income year. It's the Welsh success story and a very

visible one at that. It is about to move offices to this purpose built

one in the Cardiff enterprise zone. Work is almost completed on a new

Cardiff headquarters for Admiral. In many ways the company is a shining

beacon of what can be achieved in financial services. It came 20 years

ago as a starter Cardiff because close proximity to London and

support from bodies like the local council. It is a FTSE 100 company.

But can it be emulated by attracting companies to Wales? Clearly, the

organisation coming out of London will be drawn towards Cardiff and

the wood elsewhere. Although I know some of them are looking at Swansea

and Newport will stop there is plenty of evidence that those based

in Cardiff produced enough benefits across Wales. Canary Wharf is

probably one of the most famous financial enterprise zones. It began

being built just before Admiral established in Cardiff. It rivals

the traditional ditty of London for banking and other financial

services. Get the exact doubtful that the Welsh capital can attract

many high-paid jobs away from London. A lot of skilled workers who

have been there for many years won't want to move their families all the

way from London to Cardiff. Another reason is a lot these companies

clients are based in London and they won't want to travel all the way to

Cardiff. Competing like -- with cities like Edinburgh and Manchester

requires trained workforce. Cardiff and Vale College is launching

apprenticeships in insurance and banking. This person is a

17-year-old from Cardiff study business at the college it includes

a paid internship with Barclays. It gives people outside Cardiff a good

few on how things are here and things are improving. It'll give the

reassurance that our paths they can take a stop Cardiff can learn

lessons from what worked in Canary Wharf and companies can learn from

what worked at Admiral. That may point the way to success of

financial services in Wales in future.

An island with no roads is being equipped with traffic lights

after visitors keep getting cut off by the tide.

I haven't become stranded yet but it is on evenings like this that people

get into trouble. It can see it is low tide and want to walk over to

the island. The thing is, the water can send very quickly here and then

they get cut off and stranded. The only way off the island is to call

the RNLI and be rescued. The RNLI have launched these traffic lights.

At low tide Sully Island looks like a safe haven

It is one of the most frequent causes

of lifeboat launches from Penarth just two days ago this walker had to

be rescued from the island after being left stranded by the tide.

To help people like him, a new traffic light system is being

introduced to warn people when they might be cut off.

Nicola Davies from the RNLI has been wanting a system

What we're trying to do with this sign is take the guesswork out

of it and stop you crossing at the wrong times.

When it is Amber you have 38 minutes left.

The ideal time to go to Sully Island is when it is on green and it will

stay on green for five hours and then it will come to its Amber

stage, when it is going to close and when it is red, do not cross.

As you can see the island is accessible and I could be there

In a couple of hours time it is a totally different story.

The island is cut off when the tide comes in

Even with these warning signs it still catches people out.

I remember being a kid and being told don't go over to Sully Island.

I see people trying to come over with the riptide

and people trying to go out to save them are in danger as well.

It is very easy, I should imagine, to think that

when the tide is out as far as it is it isn't coming in very quickly.

But I now for a fact, having come over here regularly,

The lights are linked to the tide gauge at Barry dock lifeboat station

and is able to sense how quickly the water is coming in.

That makes the decision on with correlated data

which is the difference between the two sites, distance wise.

When it reaches a threshold point which is the flood point, the

information is sent to the display, the display decides what to do about

a warning system installed but at the moment it is a pilot project.
