Good evening. Weather warnings are still in place the strong winds and

rain as the tail end of ex-Hurricane Bertha continues to hit parts of

Wales. The unsettled conditions are expected to continue overnight.

Firefighters have dealt with a number of flooding incidents, but

the problems were mainly with surface water on the roads. Four

flood alerts are still in place. We'll have a full weather forecast

in a moment. BBC Wales has learned that the Welsh

and UK governments spend a combined total of more than ?300,000 on

healing properties. Manuka Honey from New Zealand is already used to

help treat wounds and now there is fresh hope Welsh Arnie could provide

the key to beating deadly diseases. In this laboratory at Cardiff

University, researchers have been testing types of honey against

bacteria like MRSA and C difficile that are difficult to tackle with

traditional antibiotics. If the samples seemed to respond

positively, the pollen is extracted and analysed so the scientists can

trace it back to the plant it came from. They've already had some

success. We've looked at over 300 honey samples from across Wales and

we found about ten which have the activity we are looking for. One

sample from North Wales has probably the most active and is comparable to

manuka honey. Our challenge is to take the honeys we have discovered

and work out why they are active. In the meantime tests are continuing on

other samples provided by Welsh beekeepers. Some of which were

brought along to the arrested for this week. I love the idea there is

a plant somewhere in North Wales that has the next cure for

antibiotic resistance. The only way we'll find that is if people sent as

honey. As new strains of infections emerge, the race is on to find fresh

solutions. Scientists at Cardiff University may well be on the right

Heavy rain and strong winds do continue to cause problems across

Wales tonight. This area of low pressure making its way north and if

we look at the radar, you can see what's happened today. Low pressure

moving north and bringing heavy downpours. Tomorrow, slightly better

conditions, breezy and heavy showers, but nowhere near the amount

of consistent rain we've had today. Some weather warnings in forceful

wind and rain tonight. Very unsettled conditions. Heavy showers

will come and go, pushing in from the West, mainly affecting south

Wales, but we can't rule them out anywhere. Temperatures tonight

between 16 and 18 Celsius. Tomorrow is feeling different with brighter

and sunny intervals. Some showers making their way across to the east.

Heavy, thundery downpours. Very windy conditions on higher ground

and along the coasts and temperatures reaching 18 or 19

Celsius. Showers continued tomorrow night and if you go back to the

pressure chart, I want to show this area of low pressure, which has

moved north, introducing cooler Earth from the North. Feeling chilly

over the next few days and plenty of heavy showers as well. The next few

days we will have plenty of heavy downpours, heavy showers, but also

sunny intervals and temperatures reaching 18 Celsius. Things are
