People across Wales observed a minute's silence this morning,

in honour of the victims of the Paris attacks.

Politicians at the Senedd were among those taking part.

Over the weekend, several vigils were held, and

public buildings and monuments were illuminated with

the colours of the French flag, as a mark of respect.

Nicola Smith reports on a day of reflection.

In every corner of Wales, they stopped to remember.

From the steps of the Senedd, to schools,

people from all walks of life fell silent.

A sign of solidarity, welcomed by many French people living here.

These students, who have friends in Paris,

joined the silence at Glyndwr University in Wrexham.

We want to show to our people, to France, that we are thinking

of them and of all the people who died over the weekend.

And did you speak to people back home over the weekend at all?

During the night, we called everybody, our friends.

We wanted to know if they were all right.

They were sticking to their flat because they were afraid.

She says she has been overwhelmed by the concern and the support

her customers have shown her in the past few days.

They come to talk to me, to ask if my family is safe, how I feel...

Really, a lot of attention. So it was nice.

People were crying, they were really worried, sad.

Claudie told me that scenes like this,

with the colours of the French flag illuminating famous buildings

and monuments, have made her feel emotional and proud.

In Caernarfon, Caerphilly and Cardiff too,

Tonight, the thoughts of people in Wales and the world over

Tonight, the First Minister has warned of the dangers of

military intervention in Syria - without what he called - "a plan".

Carwyn Jones said he wasn't sure that a plan existed yet, but he

also said the situation wasn't going to improve

while Islamic State was in existence.

Above all, what Iraq has taught us, surely, is that there needs to be

a plan and I'm not sure that such a plan exist as yet

And a plan, of course, to bring peace back to countries

What we found 20 odd years ago was that there was an invasion of

Iraq, and then chaos reigned. We don't want to see that again.

The Home Secretary Theresa May has said

security will be "intensified" at events in big cities right

across the UK in the wake of Friday's terror attacks in Paris.

Security is also likely to be stepped up

at the Millennium Stadium, and at major concert venues

But the man at the helm here, whose wife is French,

believes warm words of solidarity are important, but not enough.

It is time now to look again at whether the UK Government

should be supporting military action in Syria, right in

the nerve centre where Isis controls so much violence and barbarity.

But Britain are considering attacks but will only

join them if MPs vote to do so.

At present, I cannot see us voting in favour, but clearly the

Prime Minister has a strong case to make.

I do not think we will be supporting bombing Syria.

Labour's leader Jeremy Corbyn said he would not support

The Labour position remains unchanged.

We will look closely at the legal basis and

the practicalities of the action. How that action would be ended.

Who we would be working with, I think that is a very important test.

The Government response is here, the headquarters of MI6.

Ministers have announced plans to recruit almost 2000 more

security and intelligence officials.

It is the biggest increase in the security services' resources since

Experts say all of us, including sports fans,

can expect higher security in public places.

What will come from the actions in Paris will be

another review of the level of security. We may well see some

changes. Perhaps a ban on bags in sporting arenas.

The building of a new BBC Wales headquarters in Cardiff

The announcement followed final sign-offs

between the BBC and developers Rightacres.

Almost 1,200 staff working at the current site in Llandaff

will relocate to Central Square in the city centre by 2019.

The new building will be half the size of the existing site.

It's a very big day, because it gives us

the vital investment that support is so much of the broadcasting that

BBC Wales offers, Radio Wales, Radio Cymru, Wales Today.

And we've not been able to invest enough into those vital

technology services over recent years.

Let's get the weather forecast with Derek.

I think we will need to batten down the hatches again tomorrow.

There's more rough weather on the way, another spell of heavy rain,

and strong to severe gale force winds. Some rain around tonight, but

that will gradually clear, becoming drier, with strong winds in the

south which will ease. And then tomorrow, we've got Storm Barney

over the Atlantic and that is heading our way. Met Office weather

warnings in force, one for heavy rain and another

So a relatively quiet start to the day tomorrow, but it won't

last. More rain will spill across the country with the wind increasing

again, as well. Across the rest of the UK, rain in the West will spread

north eastwards during the day. Some heavy rain reaching southern

Scotland in the afternoon with a little snow in the Southern uplands

and the Pennines. Gale force winds developing across central and

southern areas on exposed coasts and hills. Meanwhile, in northern

Scotland, drier and brighter and colder, there. Around eight Celsius

in Aberdeen. By tomorrow afternoon, rain will have cleared the blustery

showers. More rain in the North later on, and the wind becoming a

big feature. Strong with gales, even severe gales. Especially on southern

and western coasts and hills. And Storm Barney could well bring down a

few trees, cause travel disruption and we

could see a few power cuts as well. So, stormy by tomorrow

more rain and showers spreading across the country

with some heavy showers in places, but hopefully, some sunshine

in the afternoon. It remains unsettled on Thursday and Friday and

over the weekend, we are in for a cold snap and wintry showers.
