Tonight, reaction from Westminster as Welsh MPs play their part | :00:00. | :00:00.
in the vote on whether to begin air strikes in Syria. | :00:07. | :00:10.
And police look into allegations of fraud at this private college | :00:11. | :00:13.
in Cardiff, following a BBC Wales investigation. | :00:14. | :00:39.
MPs have voted for the UK to launch air strikes on so-called | :00:40. | :00:42.
Among Welsh MPs, the vote was close, with around half intending to vote | :00:43. | :00:47.
In a moment, we'll get the latest from | :00:48. | :00:49.
our Parliamentary Correspondent, David Cornock, in Westminster. | :00:50. | :00:51.
But first, a look at some of the arguments heard in the House | :00:52. | :00:54.
Britain should not be standing by while our strongest ally, United | :00:55. | :01:09.
States, and France, which has itself suffered so grievously and | :01:10. | :01:12.
recently, bed and way too slow to rid the world of this pernicious and | :01:13. | :01:17.
evil organisation. We are presented this afternoon, we have been | :01:18. | :01:20.
presented many times with a false choice, false dichotomy. We have | :01:21. | :01:24.
been told we should bomb or do nothing, while we can bomb or we can | :01:25. | :01:29.
do something, things which are in my view reasonable, proportionate and | :01:30. | :01:35.
effective. I believe that it is flawed on the grounds that we do not | :01:36. | :01:40.
have sufficient ground forces. I do not come to that decision lightly. I | :01:41. | :01:45.
listened to the debate when we were debating Iraq and I supported action | :01:46. | :01:48.
them because the Prime Minister convinced us that the very reason we | :01:49. | :01:52.
were taking that action was because there was solid troops on the | :01:53. | :01:56.
ground, and a solid government. We do not have that in Syria. I have my | :01:57. | :02:02.
doubts, I have my doubts on the ground troops, I have my doubts | :02:03. | :02:06.
around the hopes being placed on the political process, in the failure of | :02:07. | :02:09.
this government follow through on reconstruction in the past, but we | :02:10. | :02:14.
cannot let perfection be the enemy and I have two consider the reasons | :02:15. | :02:18.
I have outlined at the beginning my answer is no and that is why I will | :02:19. | :02:21.
support the government in the tonight. | :02:22. | :02:22.
David Cornock is in Westminster. David, do we know how Welsh MPs | :02:23. | :02:25.
We are still waiting for the full breakdown of how individual MPs | :02:26. | :02:35.
voted but it does look as if 21 of the 40 Welsh MPs voted against | :02:36. | :02:40.
military action. I do know that a handful of Labour MPs from Wales did | :02:41. | :02:46.
vote with the government tonight, in favour of extending air strikes over | :02:47. | :02:52.
Syria. They included Susan Elan Jones and Stephen Doughty, who we | :02:53. | :02:56.
heard from there. I had a conversation with him and he said | :02:57. | :03:00.
that the result was the right one and that air strikes are just part | :03:01. | :03:05.
of a wider package to deliver a more stable solution for Syria. | :03:06. | :03:08.
Interesting to note that Wales's only Liberal Democrat MP actually | :03:09. | :03:16.
voted against his party leadership, and against air strikes. We will | :03:17. | :03:21.
have the full breakdown overnight. Thank you for that. | :03:22. | :03:23.
The rest of the day's news now and it's been confirmed that police | :03:24. | :03:26.
are looking into an alleged scam exposed by | :03:27. | :03:28.
In last night's Week In Week Out programme, an undercover reporter, | :03:29. | :03:32.
posing as a student, was offered a loan, based on | :03:33. | :03:35.
a false qualification, to study at the Cardiff campus of | :03:36. | :03:38.
West London Vocational and Training College. | :03:39. | :03:43.
Our political editor, Nick Servini, has the latest. | :03:44. | :03:50.
The West London Vocational and Training College. | :03:51. | :03:52.
This year it opened a branch in Cardiff and now its Welsh | :03:53. | :03:55.
government funding has been stopped, the police have called in, | :03:56. | :03:57.
Last night BBC Wales's Week In Week Out programme revealed how | :03:58. | :04:01.
this man was advising a man from its undercover team to fake | :04:02. | :04:05.
a certificate to get onto an HND in business and, in the process, tap | :04:06. | :04:08.
The principal also falsely claimed to have a PhD from Cambridge. | :04:09. | :04:28.
He has now been removed from his position by the college. | :04:29. | :04:32.
This afternoon the Education Minister confirmed | :04:33. | :04:36.
I have just learned in the last hour or so that | :04:37. | :04:41.
South Wales Police economic crime unit and the Welsh government's | :04:42. | :04:45.
counter-fraud branch are now working together in investigating | :04:46. | :04:49.
the allegations of fraud made in the BBC programme Week In Week Out. | :04:50. | :04:54.
There are only a handful of private colleges in Wales, but the Welsh | :04:55. | :04:57.
government funds hundreds of Welsh students who attend some of these | :04:58. | :05:02.
colleges in England, where there has been a huge rise in recent years, | :05:03. | :05:06.
and a big rise in the problems associated with them. | :05:07. | :05:10.
Concern in Wales about them is not new either. | :05:11. | :05:14.
Over a year ago a committee here at the Assembly warned | :05:15. | :05:18.
The response from the Welsh government is to | :05:19. | :05:25.
force private colleges from next year to have them register | :05:26. | :05:28.
One member of the Assembly committee that first raised concerns says | :05:29. | :05:32.
The reality of the situation in Wales is that we have incidences | :05:33. | :05:37.
where we have ha issues with regard to proper governance | :05:38. | :05:41.
of charities here in the same way that we have issues | :05:42. | :05:44.
The allegations that have been made about this particular college. | :05:45. | :05:51.
Police will now continue the investigation | :05:52. | :05:52.
The college owner denies knowing of any wrongdoing in the recruitment | :05:53. | :05:56.
The Newport headquarters of the Office for National Statistics | :05:57. | :06:05.
should be turned into a hub of data expertise, according to an | :06:06. | :06:08.
statistics are produced. But the report also suggested the quality of | :06:09. | :06:15.
economic figures had been affected, when the ONS moved from London to | :06:16. | :06:18.
Police are warning the number of people | :06:19. | :06:24.
in Wales being blackmailed over the internet is growing rapidly. | :06:25. | :06:26.
In the past month, nine people in North Wales have been threatened, | :06:27. | :06:29.
that intimate pictures or videos of them would be posted online, unless | :06:30. | :06:32.
One victim spoke to BBC Wales anonymously. | :06:33. | :06:41.
Then I saw myself, and she said, "I'm going to put this on Facebook | :06:42. | :06:49.
"If I don't get ?6,000 from you, I'm going to go ahead | :06:50. | :06:52.
In the last month, we've seen a growth now of nine instances | :06:53. | :06:56.
The age range is between 14 and 65, so the age range is concerning. | :06:57. | :07:04.
The Chief Executive of S4C has told BBC Wales that the Welsh language | :07:05. | :07:07.
channel remains fully committed to plans for a new headquarters in | :07:08. | :07:10.
Carmarthen, despite a ?1.7 million cut in its budget. | :07:11. | :07:13.
These are the first images of what it could look like. | :07:14. | :07:16.
It's hoped around 55 posts will move from Cardiff to Carmarthen, | :07:17. | :07:20.
and Ian Jones says it'll be cheaper to run the channel from West Wales. | :07:21. | :07:25.
The Welsh Rugby union has announced Wales will face England at | :07:26. | :07:27.
Twickenham in May next year, a day after both the Pro 12 | :07:28. | :07:31.
Wales will then tour New Zealand the following month, | :07:32. | :07:35.
Warren Gatland's side will also face Australia, | :07:36. | :07:39.
Argentina and South Africa in Cardiff in the autumn. | :07:40. | :07:44.
It's been pretty wet and miserable across the country. | :07:45. | :07:46.
Tonight, there's two flood warnings and flood alerts in place here. | :07:47. | :07:49.
