Nearly 40% of teachers banned from the profession in Wales

:00:14.:00:16.

in the last two years have been struck off for having

:00:17.:00:19.

"inappropriate" relationships or conversations with pupils.

:00:20.:00:22.

The figures were released by the Education Workforce Council

:00:23.:00:26.

but teaching Unions say such behaviour is still an uncommon

:00:27.:00:29.

Between August 2013 and August 2015, 62 teachers in Wales

:00:30.:00:38.

were subject to disciplinary hearings and of those disciplined,

:00:39.:00:42.

13 of them were struck off for having inappropriate

:00:43.:00:45.

relationships or conversations with pupils in their charge.

:00:46.:00:50.

The offences ranged from having a sexual relationship with a current

:00:51.:00:53.

or former pupil, to sending inappropriate messages

:00:54.:00:55.

or photographs via text, email or Skype.

:00:56.:00:59.

Despite the seriousness of incidents like this,

:01:00.:01:01.

the National Union of Teachers say it's still extremely uncommon.

:01:02.:01:06.

When we actually delve into the figures, you do see this

:01:07.:01:09.

is a very small number of teachers over a period of a few years.

:01:10.:01:12.

It is by no means a common occurrence in our schools.

:01:13.:01:15.

It is by no means something that we see regularly at all.

:01:16.:01:19.

That being said, of course, any accusation or concern should be

:01:20.:01:23.

A child protection charity said the changing online environment

:01:24.:01:29.

and social networking in recent years had introduced massive

:01:30.:01:34.

challenges and risks for the teaching profession.

:01:35.:01:37.

They say some staff get into trouble out of naivete rather than malice,

:01:38.:01:41.

and believes schools must ensure adequate training is given

:01:42.:01:44.

A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious

:01:45.:01:50.

injury by dangerous driving after four people were injured

:01:51.:01:54.

in a crash in Neath Port Talbot in the early hours of this morning.

:01:55.:01:58.

A 15-year-old girl remains in a serious but stable condition

:01:59.:02:02.

following the incident which happened on the Neath Road

:02:03.:02:04.

It's been confirmed that a man who died in a fire at a workshop

:02:05.:02:11.

in Rhyl last week was the owner of the business.

:02:12.:02:14.

Barrie Newton who was 71 and from Rhuddlan ran

:02:15.:02:16.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service say the blaze isn't being

:02:17.:02:21.

Scientists in Swansea are hoping to be among the first in the world

:02:22.:02:28.

to use 3D printing to reconstruct body parts for human transplant.

:02:29.:02:33.

They're developing a process which turns human cells

:02:34.:02:36.

into a structure which can be printed.

:02:37.:02:38.

Originally, 3D printing recreated objects from plastic and metal.

:02:39.:02:46.

But at Swansea University, they're developing a process

:02:47.:02:48.

which allows biological structures to be

:02:49.:02:51.

It could mean that in the future human body parts for

:02:52.:02:55.

transplant may be grown in a laboratory.

:02:56.:03:00.

We're trying to print biological structures that we can

:03:01.:03:03.

put human cells on, and with the right environment

:03:04.:03:07.

and with the right timing, it can grow into tissue that we can

:03:08.:03:10.

actually eventually put into a human to reconstruct lost body parts,

:03:11.:03:15.

such as parts of the nose, parts of the ear, and,

:03:16.:03:18.

ultimately, larger and more complex body parts.

:03:19.:03:21.

The first step is to take tiny amounts of cells

:03:22.:03:23.

They are then incubated to help them to grow.

:03:24.:03:28.

We are using a number of flasks and things to try

:03:29.:03:31.

They are grown in a single layer culture to start with.

:03:32.:03:39.

And then we can then, once we have enough cells,

:03:40.:03:41.

take these cells out and combine it with the bio-ink

:03:42.:03:44.

that we have in order to print them into shapes.

:03:45.:03:48.

What we're doing is we are making a Jelly Baby.

:03:49.:03:52.

The cells are made into jelly-like shapes

:03:53.:03:54.

which have the right consistency to go into a 3D biological printer.

:03:55.:03:58.

The printed shape is then transferred to

:03:59.:04:00.

a specially built bioreactor which turns the jelly into tissue.

:04:01.:04:05.

We've got the ability to control the growth process.

:04:06.:04:07.

It keeps them at a certain temperature, certain conditions,

:04:08.:04:13.

The team have managed to print a structure

:04:14.:04:17.

Their next challenge is to grow bigger tissues,

:04:18.:04:21.

and then, eventually, to trial whether the tissues

:04:22.:04:25.

A major road on Anglesey is to remain closed

:04:26.:04:30.

following a landslide caused by this week's bad weather.

:04:31.:04:33.

Anglesey Council says engineers are assessing the safety of the A545

:04:34.:04:38.

The Welsh Government says it's making ?1 million available to help

:04:39.:04:43.

councils with immediate repairs and any maintenance needed to river

:04:44.:04:47.

Tributes have been paid to the artist Ogwyn Davies who has

:04:48.:04:53.

He studied at the Swansea School of Art and spent most of his adult

:04:54.:04:58.

life living and working in Tregaron in Ceredigion.

:04:59.:05:02.

Football, and Cardiff City will be hoping for three points

:05:03.:05:05.

against Nottingham Forest this evening.

:05:06.:05:07.

Russell Slade's side are four points off the top six after losing to MK

:05:08.:05:10.

Now with the weather forecast for Wales here's Derek Brockway.

:05:11.:05:18.

We enjoyed some dry weather and sunshine for a change today,

:05:19.:05:21.

but more trouble is brewing over the Atlantic.

:05:22.:05:24.

This massive cloud is a deepening area of low pressure

:05:25.:05:27.

Now, Frank is heading towards Iceland.

:05:28.:05:31.

But we are all in for another spell of wet and windy weather.

:05:32.:05:35.

Met Office warnings in force for both wind and rain.

:05:36.:05:38.

Yellow warnings in Wales, that means be aware.

:05:39.:05:41.

In terms of rainfall, we are looking at another

:05:42.:05:45.

More on higher ground, especially in the south,

:05:46.:05:49.

Now, at the moment, there's just one flood

:05:50.:05:58.

warning in force in the lower Dee Valley.

:05:59.:06:01.

So, through this evening and tonight, more rain spreads

:06:02.:06:03.

across the country, some heavy bursts of rain,

:06:04.:06:05.

From the South, sever gales in parts of the new West and north-west.

:06:06.:06:15.

Tomorrow, a wet and windy start, and wet start as well.

:06:16.:06:17.

Some heavy rain, especially on the heels in the south.

:06:18.:06:20.

During the afternoon, the wind will ease, the rain

:06:21.:06:22.

will ease off as well but still some rainfall in the South and West.

:06:23.:06:25.

Tomorrow evening, showery rain will spread north-west

:06:26.:06:27.

A little snow likely in the mountains in the north.

:06:28.:06:30.

And then for Thursday, New Year's Eve, a chilly

:06:31.:06:33.

Heavy showers in places, accompanied by gusty winds.

:06:34.:06:39.

New Year's Day will be dry, but it's not set to last.

:06:40.:06:42.

There's more rain and strong winds on the way.

:06:43.:06:45.

Don't forget, keep up-to-date with the forecast on the website.

:06:46.:06:47.

That's Wales Today, thank you for watching from all of us

:06:48.:06:55.

Basically, people have a chaotic lifestyle. They've built up many

:06:56.:07:07.

problems over the years. This can lead to homelessness. It's a happy

:07:08.:07:13.

festive season for Martin and his family this year.
