The First Minister is heading to the US to, as he says,

:00:00.:00:10.

But how easy is that in the aftermath of Brexit?

:00:11.:00:15.

And the pedigree dogs worth ?1,000 each - and the puppy

:00:16.:00:18.

Wales needs to be sold to the world "like never before",

:00:19.:00:42.

New figures suggest the number of jobs created by foreign companies

:00:43.:00:47.

But Carwyn Jones says that performance could be under threat

:00:48.:00:52.

if the UK loses the ability to trade freely with the rest of the EU.

:00:53.:00:55.

Here's our Poltiical Editor, Nick Servini.

:00:56.:01:01.

You could argue that Wales' profile around the world has never been

:01:02.:01:07.

higher after the success of our footballers in the

:01:08.:01:10.

But can that be capitalised on with the whistle soon to be

:01:11.:01:16.

blown the UK's membership of the European Union?

:01:17.:01:20.

New figures show that in the year from April 2015,

:01:21.:01:22.

nearly 5,500 jobs were created in 97 inward investment projects.

:01:23.:01:27.

That's a rise of 7% on the previous year.

:01:28.:01:32.

The figures don't reflect the referendum result,

:01:33.:01:35.

but it appears that they weren't affected by the general uncertainty

:01:36.:01:38.

surrounding the build-up to the vote.

:01:39.:01:42.

Big names like Aston Martin have recently announced plans

:01:43.:01:45.

Carwyn Jones believes that trend could be under threat if the UK

:01:46.:01:52.

For me, it is absolutely fundamental that we get access

:01:53.:01:56.

Anything beyond that, to me, well, that's negotiable.

:01:57.:02:01.

But I cannot see how we can continue to attract investment in the levels

:02:02.:02:05.

we have done if we are outside of a market bigger than we are.

:02:06.:02:09.

We now know that Carwyn Jones will define his approach to Brexit

:02:10.:02:12.

negotiations around the need for the UK to form part

:02:13.:02:15.

In other words, for there to be free movement of goods and services.

:02:16.:02:22.

The problem is, though, that that may only be achievable

:02:23.:02:26.

if there is the free movement of people as well.

:02:27.:02:30.

And it's likely that that would be acceptable

:02:31.:02:32.

-- that won't be unacceptable for many who voted to leave.

:02:33.:02:43.

After criticism from opposition parties that he's been slow to act,

:02:44.:02:46.

the focus now is selling Wales abroad.

:02:47.:02:48.

First up - Chicago, as part of a series of trade visits

:02:49.:02:51.

by the First Minister to the US next week.

:02:52.:02:53.

But there'll be challenges, including the fact that he can't

:02:54.:02:55.

tell the Americans exactly what kind of relationship we'll

:02:56.:02:57.

Historically, we've seen the UK and Wales as part of that

:02:58.:03:01.

And now we're maybe not sure what the advantages would be.

:03:02.:03:08.

Should we go straight into the EU market, or should we test

:03:09.:03:11.

and refine what we do in Wales before moving onto the continent?

:03:12.:03:19.

The terms of that future relationship will be

:03:20.:03:22.

under discussion tomorrow when the Prime Minister,

:03:23.:03:25.

Theresa May, chairs her first Cabinet since summer break.

:03:26.:03:27.

Around the table will be the Welsh Secretary, Alun Cairns,

:03:28.:03:30.

who struck an upbeat tone today on the latest economic data.

:03:31.:03:33.

We've heard of figures of doom and gloom all along, but we need

:03:34.:03:36.

People said that the inward investment figures this year would

:03:37.:03:42.

be down because of the uncertainty of the referendum.

:03:43.:03:45.

There have also been some strong Welsh unemployment figures recently.

:03:46.:03:52.

The big job for now is to try to ensure they continue.

:03:53.:04:00.

A father and son have been sentenced to a total of nearly six years

:04:01.:04:03.

in prison for the violent theft of a pedigree dog in Abergavennny.

:04:04.:04:06.

Thomas and Martin Stokes, from the East Midlands,

:04:07.:04:09.

posed as potential buyers before stealing the puppy,

:04:10.:04:11.

He was prepared to steal people's prize animals -

:04:12.:04:23.

Thomas Stokes, on the left, and his son Martin Stokes posed

:04:24.:04:28.

Seen here outside court they contacted Liz Swaine,

:04:29.:04:33.

a pedigree breeder from Abergavenny, and travelled to her home.

:04:34.:04:37.

The court heard the men wanted to take three of the puppies

:04:38.:04:41.

to their car to show someone the dogs.

:04:42.:04:44.

Liz Swaine became suspicious and try to prevent the men leaving her home.

:04:45.:04:47.

Thomas Stokes then punched Liz Swaine and they made off

:04:48.:04:52.

Liz Swaine was left with serious injuries.

:04:53.:04:58.

She also fell trying to chase the men.

:04:59.:05:01.

The court heard the attack has destroyed her confidence.

:05:02.:05:04.

Thomas Stokes was after these prize pugs, worth around ?1,200 each.

:05:05.:05:10.

Two were later found hiding near Ms Swaine's home.

:05:11.:05:16.

Hillary Linnett breeds pugs and German shepherds

:05:17.:05:21.

She says security for private sellers in becoming

:05:22.:05:26.

She checks people are who they say they are before allowing

:05:27.:05:32.

A lot of people don't get past the phone call.

:05:33.:05:39.

If they are enquiring about a puppy, I know this

:05:40.:05:42.

sounds a bit contrary, but if I don't like the sound

:05:43.:05:44.

of them or they don't meet my very, very specific criteria that I have

:05:45.:05:48.

for whoever wants a puppy from me, if they don't fit that,

:05:49.:05:53.

a lot people don't get past the phone call.

:05:54.:05:57.

The court heard the men had around 50 previous

:05:58.:06:00.

The judge said the sentences were aimed at preventing other

:06:01.:06:04.

attacks on people who sell from her home.

:06:05.:06:07.

Thomas Stokes admitted theft and assault and was sentenced

:06:08.:06:09.

Martin Stokes admitted conspiracy to pervert the course of justice

:06:10.:06:14.

and was sentenced to ten months in prison.

:06:15.:06:25.

Staff at a Wrexham based coach firm which collapsed last month have

:06:26.:06:27.

contacted lawyers about a possible group compensation claim.

:06:28.:06:30.

More than 300 people were made redundant when

:06:31.:06:34.

Now 48 staff are considering legal action for failing to consult

:06:35.:06:39.

More than 800 people were arrested in Wales over the last three years,

:06:40.:06:48.

suspected of illegally entering the UK.

:06:49.:06:50.

Figures from three of the Welsh forces show South Wales Police had

:06:51.:06:53.

Gwent saw the biggest rise, up by 73%.

:06:54.:07:04.

The site of the former Whitland Creamery could finally be

:07:05.:07:07.

developed after planning was granted for 28 houses.

:07:08.:07:10.

Carmarthenshire Council's planning officers had recommended the plans

:07:11.:07:14.

be rejected because the land has been reserved to

:07:15.:07:17.

But there was concern locally that the derelict site

:07:18.:07:22.

There's lots of different ideas that have been thrown about over

:07:23.:07:28.

But I think now, just seeing the fact that no

:07:29.:07:35.

residents have told about it, nobody put up any

:07:36.:07:39.

I just think it shows that Whitland's just ready

:07:40.:07:49.

August bank holiday has passed, and the tourist industry has already

:07:50.:07:54.

started to assess how good, or bad, the summer season has been.

:07:55.:07:57.

There are no official figures yet but, according to Visit Wales,

:07:58.:07:59.

initial reports suggest summer 2016 has been a bumper year.

:08:00.:08:03.

RADIO: And it's still looking pretty slow on the A55 heading east,

:08:04.:08:09.

anywhere really from around Colwyn Bay through towards

:08:10.:08:11.

There seems to be a lot of holiday traffic heading home...

:08:12.:08:18.

With so much going on, it was hardly surprising

:08:19.:08:20.

A sunny bank holiday Monday - what more could the Welsh

:08:21.:08:25.

Everything you'd expect to find in a hotel suite.

:08:26.:08:32.

And it's an industry which is learning to cater

:08:33.:08:35.

This safari tent encampment isn't in Africa, it's in the grounds

:08:36.:08:40.

Glamping, glamorous camping, is the new big thing, apparently!

:08:41.:08:52.

These owners took the plunge eight years ago.

:08:53.:08:55.

You're charging people lots of money to stay in a tent?

:08:56.:08:57.

The youngsters today, we've got Surf Snowdonia,

:08:58.:09:02.

we've got Bounce Below, we've got zip wires...

:09:03.:09:04.

They're all looking for something different, and this is different.

:09:05.:09:06.

They have the low interest rates that we didn't have when we had

:09:07.:09:12.

I know there's issues with housing and things, but they've got

:09:13.:09:16.

the money and they want something different.

:09:17.:09:17.

They've only got a couple of days and they're happy to pay.

:09:18.:09:22.

The latest Visit Wales advert sells the great outdoors.

:09:23.:09:25.

We're now the place for zip wires and surf lakes, as much

:09:26.:09:27.

But, of course, there's still a place for the good

:09:28.:09:33.

Many we spoke to in Colwyn Bay today were day-trippers.

:09:34.:09:38.

We're coming for a nice beach, which isn't too far away.

:09:39.:09:41.

It's also ideal for our grandchildren.

:09:42.:09:47.

And, of course, the funfair in Llandudno.

:09:48.:09:59.

There is quite a variety of things that Wales offers.

:10:00.:10:01.

The Welsh tourist industry is changing.

:10:02.:10:04.

It's adapting - it's had to to chase market.

:10:05.:10:08.

Yes, you can do all the adventure stuff.

:10:09.:10:10.

But you can still have a traditional beach bucket

:10:11.:10:13.

Some statistics suggest the English holiday industry is performing

:10:14.:10:21.

If you look at figures for day trips, they're on the increase.

:10:22.:10:27.

If you look at figures for expenditure,

:10:28.:10:29.

We are performing well, but we don't want to take our foot off the gas.

:10:30.:10:35.

We want to make sure tourism in Wales continues to grow.

:10:36.:10:38.

It'll be some months before all the adding up is done

:10:39.:10:41.

and an accurate picture of how well summer 2016 has gone emerges.

:10:42.:10:43.

In the industry, of course, they're are already thinking ahead

:10:44.:10:46.

Football, news now, and Cardiff City captain David Marshall's move

:10:47.:10:55.

The Bluebirds wouldn't confirm the rumoured ?5 million fee,

:10:56.:11:01.

but said the move to the Premier League club was

:11:02.:11:04.

The 31-year-old has made more than 280 appearances

:11:05.:11:08.

Barnsley defender Alfie Mawson has completed his move to Swansea City.

:11:09.:11:12.

The 22-year-old has signed a four-year deal

:11:13.:11:14.

A couple of football scores, and it wasn't the best

:11:15.:11:19.

night for the Welsh teams in the Checkatrade Trophy tonight.

:11:20.:11:22.

Newport lost 4-1 to Plymouth, and Swansea City Under-23s lost

:11:23.:11:25.

Let's get the weather forecast - Derek, any more sunshine?

:11:26.:11:37.

Yes, there is more sunshine in the forecast that goes for tomorrow, but

:11:38.:11:44.

not dry. There is a little rain on the way of love. Dry at the moment,

:11:45.:11:50.

but overnight Cloud will increase. One or two light showers during the

:11:51.:11:53.

early hours. Some proper rain arriving in the north and west

:11:54.:11:56.

towards the end of the night. Milder than last night. Tomorrow morning, a

:11:57.:12:03.

dry start in the south-east, but it will last. A band of rain will

:12:04.:12:06.

spread eastwards during the morning. Light rain for the South Wales

:12:07.:12:12.

valleys. Some sunshine developing in Conway and in Pembrokeshire once the

:12:13.:12:16.

rain has cleared through. Across the rest of the UK, this is the cold

:12:17.:12:19.

front bringing the rain tomorrow. It will move eastwards during the day

:12:20.:12:23.

and as it does it will turn lighter and tend to die out. Just the odd

:12:24.:12:29.

spot of rain in London. Behind the rain, sunny spells and scattered

:12:30.:12:33.

showers. Most of the showers in Scotland, where it will be greedy.

:12:34.:12:36.

Not as war and the south-east, but that up to 23 Celsius in Norwich and

:12:37.:12:43.

London. -- most of the showers in Scotland where it will be greedy.

:12:44.:12:47.

Closer to home we may catch a shower but most places dry and fresher.

:12:48.:12:57.

Into Thursday, fine unsettled. More sunshine. Clouding over later in the

:12:58.:13:02.

afternoon. Maybe a few showers for parts of Powys and the north and

:13:03.:13:07.

north-west. Freshening north winds through the Irish Sea into the

:13:08.:13:11.

north-west. On Friday, the gardens will have a water. Potentially heavy

:13:12.:13:15.

rain but it should turn drier and brighter by the evening. Into the

:13:16.:13:18.

weekend, more rain on the way. Stronger winds are dry weather is

:13:19.:13:23.

likely as well. Signs of autumn on the way, Jamie.

:13:24.:13:24.

That's Wales Today, thank you for watching.

:13:25.:13:26.

From all of us on the programme, goodnight.
