Our top stories: The battle begins to save 350 jobs at this meat

Unions and workers say the losses would be devastating for the town.

And the Archbishop of Wales makes a historic announcement -

Bosses have been meeting staff and union representatives at the 2

Sisters meat processing factory in Merthyr Tydfil, where more

than 350 workers are at risk of losing their jobs.

The company employs 1100 people at the site but wants

to move its packaging operation to another factory in Cornwall.

With the latest, our business correspondent, Brian Meechan.

Business was continuing at 2 Sisters today but workers were left

wondering what the future would hold for them.

The abattoir and cutting operations continue as usual but packing

for steaks and other meats for retailers will move

What's the job situation like around here?

The food industry can be notoriously difficult to operate in and often

profits on products are actually quite small.

That's because, when they're negotiating with supermarkets,

it's the supermarkets that have the power.

This site, for example, sells the vast majority

of its product to just one supermarket chain.

Unions are confused over the company's decision to move

the packing business to Cornwall and want to know

If we talk about 350 people going, that's not just 350 people,

that's the impact on the families of 350 people and, of course,

Merthyr's been doing well in attracting

Tenecco-Walker and Trago Mills are promising to create

almost 900 jobs, requiring a variety of skill levels.

Four men have been charged with the murder of Mark Mason.

Wales has its first ever woman bishop.

Canon Joanna Penberthy says she's immensely humbled to take up the job

of Bishop of St David's in what's been described as an historic moment

A decision to allow women to become bishops was taken in 2013.

For the past 1500 years, prayers have been said

here at St David's Cathedral, but today, this ancient

site of Christianity saw history in the making.

Wales had elected its first female bishop.

Since yesterday morning, members of the Church

in Wales Electoral College had been meeting to discuss their choice.

And at lunchtime, the Archbishop of Wales broke the news.

The Bishop Elect of St David's is Canon Joanna Penberthy.

Canon Joanna Penberthy is 56 years old and was one of the first women

to be ordained as a priest in Wales back in 1997.

She's currently the rector of Glan Ithon in Llandrindod Wells.

She knows St David's well having already spent 11 years as a canon

She also worked in the dioceses of Llandaff and St Asaph

and previously served in Bath and Wells.

It is an historic moment but what's important to remember

is that Joanna Penberthy is an enormously gifted priest.

She is intellectually able, she preaches well,

she engages with people, she's able to relate

Women bishops in the Church in Wales remains a highly sensitive issue.

Church law was only changed here three years ago

and the Reverend Jenny Wigley was one of the driving forces behind it.

I sent her a one-word e-mail this afternoon.

A look at the weather now and, Derek, it's feeling

Tonight, much of the country dry. Just the odd shower in the far north

and west with some cloud rolling in. Widespread ground frost, air frost

in the Brecon Beacons, so actually called start tomorrow morning. Right

in the south and east for a while but cloud will be on the increase.

Across the rest of the UK, the best of the weather across the South and

east of England, dry and bright. Further north and west, more

unsettled and cloudy outbreaks of rain, heavy showers and breezy and

chilly. Close to home, it will be bright and places tomorrow afternoon

but cloudy then today, patchy rain and showers about. Having said that,

Monmouth may well stay dry. Tomorrow evening, rain and showers will

spread south eastwards. Dry and clear after midnight. Not as cold as

the night but on the chilly side still and chilly on Friday with a

mixture of sunshine and scattered showers, some dry weather but rain

and heavy showers coming into the North and West later in the

afternoon. For a weekend, we are in for a cold arctic plunge, northerly

winds bringing lower temperatures, a few showers in the north and west, a

dusting of snow likely on the mountain tops in Snowdonia.

Otherwise, a lot of dry in clear weather over the weekend. Blue sky

and sunshine but the thermals will definitely come in handy!
