Good evening. The new year may offer drier weather but until then

it's more of the same. We could be on for breaking the record for the

wettest year ever recorded because the next few days there is more

rain in the forecast and strong winds, and the risk of flooding

continues. A huge mass of cloud in the Atlantic and it's heading our

way. The first signs of rain are already showing up in the south-

west pushing into Northern Ireland and overnight we have this mild

breeze pushing it along. Ahead of that it's cold and that rain will

bump into the cold air across Scotland and it will turn that rain

to snow. But those winds are mild and they will be raising

temperatures overnight. Further north in Scotland, snow

turns back to rain quite quickly through the morning and then we see

significant snow melt so there is a risk of flooding and it's a wet and

windy in the west of Scotland. Rather dull and damp across

northern England through the morning. The rain's not too heavy

here but it will be wetter for a time across the the south-east and

East Anglia. It's more like light rain and drizzle through the

southern counties of England. Towards the south-west here the

rain will be more persistent through the morning. But it's you

quite mild. -- but it's quite mild. Quite a wet start to the day across

the bulk of Wales. Towards Northern Ireland, it's not so wet here.

There will be some rain, most of that towards the west. The further

east you are it's drier. Wherever you are it's going to be a windy

day and cloudy day and the rain will be on and off for many places.

Sunshine I suspect will be limited but there may be some towards the

east of the Pennines. Temperatures in northern Scotland doing better

than we saw today. Further south double figures, as

well. But that's only on the face of it, factor in the winds winds

which will be picking up all the while. We could see gusts up to

75mph and we have this front working eastwards. It's there on

Saturday, quite reluctant to clear from the the east of England but

further west it should brighten up but there will be showers around,

some of those turning wintry over the hills of Scotland. Another
