weather will turn a lot more unsubtle, so for the time being, the

weekend doesn't look grey. Here's Nick Miller with the national

outlook. The weather is going downhill, and

here is why. Weekend weather developments are now to the

south-west of us, low-pressure forming, and this has the weekend

whether written all over it. But first to the weather front we have

now. Still some heavy bursts, maybe with a rumble of thunder, but clear

spells developing in Northern Ireland, Wales and the south-west.

Perhaps just a slight ground frost here and there. More significantly,

mist and fog forming. And even in the London area, it is possible.

Bear that in mind if you have an early journey. If it affects travel,

you can hear about it on your BBC local radio. The last of the fog

will be gone by late morning, and then the day transform is, a lovely

afternoon for most of us, dry with broken cloud and some warm sunny

spells. The last of the overnight rain will still be there in the

early morning for parts of the north and east. But there will also be a

few hit and miss showers developing through the afternoon. They will

tend to form over hilly areas. Most of us will avoid them and stay dry.

It will be pleasantly warm with light winds. But throughout the rear

the threat of low cloud and see fog along the North Sea coast. Once that

arrives, the temperature comes down. But inland, south-east England may

see 18 Celsius. There is some uncertainty about Friday, but it

looks as though the east will see plenty of cloud. West remains best.

And then comes the downhill part of the forecasts, this area of low

pressure by Saturday is coming in, brisk winds around it, bands of wet

weather feeding into the UK. We can give you more detail about the

weekend as we get closer to it. But generally, long spells of wet
