Hello. Some of us had a nice day. Others of you will be wondering if

the sun will ever shine again. It's been another cloudy and damp day

across many parts of the country. No more so than across the heart of

northern England, where, through the heart of the day, with persistent

rain, temperatures were no higher than 11 degrees. Disappointing for

the end of May, I'm sure you will agree. We emerged into sunshine

across the Irish Sea. For western parts of Northern Ireland we reached

the dizzy heights of 21 degrees. Even here, you are going to join in

the phone later tonight, with the rain crossing the Irish Sea as I

speak. It's turning damp, with heavy bursts of rain possible,

particularly damp across northern Ireland and northern England. The

cloud is lowering onto the hills, so reduced visibility later tonight,

particularly on high-level routes. Temperatures staying in double

figures. A very slow start tomorrow, damp and misty in many places. Slow

improvements, but we will see some bright spells developing across

certain areas. Also, across the North. In between, it is probably

going to stay rather gloomy. Here's a snapshot in the mid-afternoon.

Still dampness in northern England but not the persistent rain we have

seen. Better chance of sunshine across the borders into Scotland.

Not ruling out a shower, but plenty of fine weather. For Northern

Ireland, a different day. Cooler, cloudy, damp, particularly to the

east. 12 degrees in Belfast. For Wales, after a slow start, the skies

will brighten and then the showers will get going. Across central and

southern parts of the UK, be aware, there could be some nastier,

slow-moving, heavy downpours. The focus through the afternoon across

parts of the West Country, into the South Midlands. Some showers further

east but they've might fade away late afternoon. Warmer than it has

been in the brightness. That improvement continues into Friday.

Fewer showers, still a few around across southern areas. Try elsewhere

with the best of the sunshine further north across Scotland.

Lighter wind. It will feel more comfortable for many. The weekend, a

ridge of high pressure for a time, but only for a time. This front will

be edging from the north-west. A lot of uncertainty about the timing for

that. The best bet for fine weather is early this weekend, an increasing

chance of rain spreading from the North West as we head through the

second half of
