best day of the weekend I think is
going to be Sunday, then Monday | 0:00:00 | 0:00:00
looking | 0:00:00 | 0:00:01
going to be Sunday, then Monday
looking a bit milder. Now the | 0:00:01 | 0:00:04
National weather.
Good evening. As we approach the | 0:00:04 | 0:00:09
weekend there are signs that mother
nature may well release her win grip | 0:00:09 | 0:00:13
across the UK. But that said, look
at the Highlands this afternoon, | 0:00:13 | 0:00:17
where temperatures barely got above
freezing, and there is still 15 | 0:00:17 | 0:00:22
centimetres of lying snow. In parts
of Hertfordshire and the south-east | 0:00:22 | 0:00:25
we had some sunshine. The snow is
melting quite nicely. The weekend | 0:00:25 | 0:00:30
snowman now a distant memory. It was
a mess today, however you look at | 0:00:30 | 0:00:34
it. Yes, we had some sunshine to the
east, but there were bands of | 0:00:34 | 0:00:38
showers and the showers had a wintry
flavour, rain and sleet and snow | 0:00:38 | 0:00:41
mixed in, and they are moving their
way south and east. They will | 0:00:41 | 0:00:45
continue to do so through the night
to night, accompanied by blustery | 0:00:45 | 0:00:48
winds. Behind it, clear skies, some
ice could form particularly through | 0:00:48 | 0:00:56
Northern England and Scotland.
Temperatures close to freezing. A | 0:00:56 | 0:00:58
cold start, there will be showers
around but let's look at a Taione in | 0:00:58 | 0:01:02
more detail. A slightly quieter day
for Scotland. Showers hopefully few | 0:01:02 | 0:01:06
and far between. The winds swing
around to a northerly direction, | 0:01:06 | 0:01:10
more showers coming in off the North
Sea and similar in eastern England | 0:01:10 | 0:01:14
as well. Along with the showers
across the North we'll see one or | 0:01:14 | 0:01:18
two down through Wales and in
south-west England. Elsewhere, | 0:01:18 | 0:01:21
hopefully the cloud should break up
quite nicely and will start to see | 0:01:21 | 0:01:24
some sunshine coming through. A cold
morning for many of us first thing. | 0:01:24 | 0:01:29
As we go through the day the
northerly wind will continue to | 0:01:29 | 0:01:32
drive in the showers across the East
Coast and one or two to the | 0:01:32 | 0:01:35
south-west. Sandwiched in between
the two, the cloud will break up and | 0:01:35 | 0:01:38
the sunshine will come through. Not
looking particularly warm, 4-8d, | 0:01:38 | 0:01:44
with a few wintry showers
particularly to the north-west of | 0:01:44 | 0:01:47
the great Glen. As we go through the
night it looks likely we'll see a | 0:01:47 | 0:01:51
widespread frost. A cold night
developing across the country, with | 0:01:51 | 0:01:54
the exception out towards the West
and I'll come onto that in a moment. | 0:01:54 | 0:01:59
The cold air stays with us for the
start of the weekend. Looking out of | 0:01:59 | 0:02:03
the south-west, the winds change
direction yet again. It will drive | 0:02:03 | 0:02:06
in milder air across the country. A
change into Sunday. Saturday starts | 0:02:06 | 0:02:12
off cold and frosty. Northern
Ireland, Wales and south-west | 0:02:12 | 0:02:14
England a little more cloudy, more
breeze and a few scattered showers, | 0:02:14 | 0:02:19
6-8d here but despite the frost and
the sunshine coming through, | 0:02:19 | 0:02:23
temperatures will struggle, 2-3 to
the north and east. As we move into | 0:02:23 | 0:02:28
Sunday, | 0:02:28 | 0:02:28 |
