Good evening, if you are already

making travel plans for your

Christmas break I think on the way

they're the weather might not cause

too many issues, but it might be

that straightforward on the way home

as I will show you in the moment.

The jet stream for the time being,

the winds high in the atmosphere

driving the weather systems around

the world, it is sitting to the

north of the British Isles taking

the active weather away to the

north, leaving us with this area of

high pressure. If you are thinking

high pressure means clear skies and

sunshine, well, not this time.

Trapped underneath the high there is

lots of cloud, mist and murk and

some spots of drizzle and that's the

sort of weather that will continue

through to night, and along the line

of this riding weather front we will

continue to season outbreaks of rain

at times. Some clear spells across

north-east Scotland, where it will

turn chilly but with the cloud and

mist and fog further south and west

it will be a mild night. Into

tomorrow we can follow our weather

front gradually northwards once

again, taking in some rain through

parts of northern England and

Northern Ireland. To the south of

that predominantly dry but

predominantly crowd, cloudy, some

mist and drizzle over the hills in

the west, the best chance of

brightness over the north and east

of Scotland, the lowest temperatures

are six in Aberdeen and up to 11 in

Plymouth. And on Friday, essentially

more of the same, most likely to

seek patchy rain in the south first

thing, and then there is a better

chance, slightly more optimistic of

some sunshine through eastern

England, north-east England but

still quite murky for the hills in

the west, still miles for most of

us. And then we get into the

weekend, Saturday, some rain

starting to show its hand in

north-west Scotland, conversely if

we get brightness in eastern

Scotland, much milder day to come in

for most it will be dry and cloudy.

Similar story in the south on

Christmas Eve, more of a breeze by

this stage, noticed the rain still

swarming up to the north-west, and

then what about the big day itself?

This frontal system as it wriggles

its way around, will bring outbreaks

of rain in north-western areas. To

the north of that, some cold air not

far away, but most of us look like

staying in the mild air. Generally

mild for Christmas day, some rain in

the north, but what about after

Christmas? Let's go back to the jet

stream. Because, through next week

it looks like the jet will become
