I'll now hand you over to Susan
Powell for the national forecast. | 0:00:00 | 0:00:10
Good evening. The weather is set to
serve up some stormy times in the | 0:00:11 | 0:00:14
week ahead. Windy through much of
the week, sometimes even up to gale | 0:00:14 | 0:00:21
force or a severe gale force before
the week is out. And some rather | 0:00:21 | 0:00:24
heavy rain. Having said that it is
fairly quiet outside this evening. | 0:00:24 | 0:00:28
The showers will be easing over the
coming hours and we could see a | 0:00:28 | 0:00:32
frost developing with clear skies by
the end of the night, so bear that | 0:00:32 | 0:00:37
in mind if you're heading off to
work early tomorrow. But fine and | 0:00:37 | 0:00:42
chilly weather is short lived,
because already coming in from the | 0:00:42 | 0:00:45
west by the rush-hour will be the
next weather system, lifting the | 0:00:45 | 0:00:49
temperatures across Northern Ireland
and bringing in some wet and windy | 0:00:49 | 0:00:53
conditions. Eastern Scotland should
have a frosty, clear start and down | 0:00:53 | 0:00:58
into the Midlands, East Anglia and
the south-east of England, a dry | 0:00:58 | 0:01:01
start to Tuesday. But already in the
west, there is the weather front | 0:01:01 | 0:01:05
picking up the winds. On the plus
side, this weather front will move | 0:01:05 | 0:01:10
across fairly quickly, so if you
start with the rain, the chances are | 0:01:10 | 0:01:13
that by lunchtime it will have gone
by. As the front crosses northern | 0:01:13 | 0:01:17
England and Scotland it could wring
some wintry weather to the hills and | 0:01:17 | 0:01:21
mountains of. It looks like it will
go off into the North Sea by the | 0:01:21 | 0:01:26
afternoon, leaving a bit of a
breather in the weather for most. | 0:01:26 | 0:01:29
But that will be short lived. This
bright area behind me is an | 0:01:29 | 0:01:33
indicator of what is to come next,
and that's a deep area of low | 0:01:33 | 0:01:36
pressure set to come in from the
Atlantic, a vicious little system, | 0:01:36 | 0:01:43
widespread gales overnight Tuesday
into Wednesday, severe gales for a | 0:01:43 | 0:01:46
time. It will be moving off into the
North Sea but behind it we're left | 0:01:46 | 0:01:53
with quite strong winds and again at
the risk of gales and some fairly | 0:01:53 | 0:01:56
nasty showers. Some heavy downpours
of rain, hail and thunder. The winds | 0:01:56 | 0:02:02
very squally at times. And that sets
us up for the remainder of the week, | 0:02:02 | 0:02:06
with another area of low pressure
queueing up to come in from the | 0:02:06 | 0:02:10
Atlantic. A little bit of a breather
again in the early part of Thursday, | 0:02:10 | 0:02:15
a chilly start for some. But here is
the next load of wet and windy | 0:02:15 | 0:02:19
weather coming in to the British
Isles for Friday. Widespread gales | 0:02:19 | 0:02:25
and as promised some heavy spells of
rain. And then to finish | 0:02:25 | 0:02:29 |
