Good evening and welcome to the late news.

:00:08.:00:09.

Police are hunting a man who held a shopkeeper at knifepoint before

:00:10.:00:14.

The robbery happened last night at Temple Stores

:00:15.:00:20.

The shopkeeper today described his shock -

:00:21.:00:24.

while the police called for help in finding the robber.

:00:25.:00:28.

Julie Flanagan has more details on the police investigation.

:00:29.:00:44.

Nearly ?800 was stolen. It is this significant crime hit in Jersey. Not

:00:45.:00:50.

just because of the theft but also because of the violence stole --

:00:51.:00:54.

involved. This is an unusual crime fall jersey. This is clearly a

:00:55.:01:00.

desperate act carried out by a callous individual. We want to find

:01:01.:01:09.

out why this occurred. We suspect the man was casing the shop.

:01:10.:01:17.

Fortunately, jersey is a very safe place and these incidents and

:01:18.:01:23.

common. The police are looking for a man who is six foot four, a slim fit

:01:24.:01:31.

build, wearing a black leather jacket and a silver or grey body.

:01:32.:01:35.

The security chief cameras were working but they stopped recording

:01:36.:01:40.

literally minutes before it happened so the police really want to hear

:01:41.:01:46.

from anyone who was here between seven and half past seven last night

:01:47.:01:49.

or who was here yesterday because this man was seen several times.

:01:50.:01:55.

Bruno Alvarez has told me he is worried about security, his personal

:01:56.:02:01.

safety and his wife who works here long hours alone. He told me he is

:02:02.:02:07.

still shaken, and nearly 24 hours after his ordeal.

:02:08.:02:10.

Parents and businesses in Jersey are being consulted

:02:11.:02:11.

about their views on extending statutory maternity

:02:12.:02:13.

The States could use the outcome to change the current laws -

:02:14.:02:17.

which are often criticised for falling far behind

:02:18.:02:19.

the amount of leave offered to parents in the the UK.

:02:20.:02:22.

Parents and children playing at this tots' group in Jersey.

:02:23.:02:30.

But how family-friendly are the island's employment rights?

:02:31.:02:34.

The current rights came into force just over a year ago,

:02:35.:02:38.

making it compulsory for workers to get two weeks paid maternity

:02:39.:02:43.

Two weeks unpaid paternity leave, eight weeks adoption leave.

:02:44.:02:51.

It's less generous than in the UK, so do parents

:02:52.:02:54.

We should have longer maternity leave.

:02:55.:03:03.

It is nice to bond with your children.

:03:04.:03:07.

And for dads, as well, to have that bit of time to spend

:03:08.:03:10.

with their children and help out with setting a routine

:03:11.:03:14.

I see lots of people struggling with babies when they are only

:03:15.:03:19.

three or four months, it is really sad to see.

:03:20.:03:23.

And some people have to get back to work.

:03:24.:03:27.

Now all islanders are being asked for their views

:03:28.:03:33.

It's being run by the Employment Forum, an independent group

:03:34.:03:37.

who wants to hear from both sides of the fence.

:03:38.:03:40.

It will be a balance between individuals who want longer

:03:41.:03:46.

time with their babies when they're born, but also with businesses

:03:47.:03:51.

who have businesses to run and the cost of having people out

:03:52.:03:56.

of a business for any length of time.

:03:57.:03:58.

People's views will be gathered over the next three months,

:03:59.:04:01.

before the forum puts recommendations to the States.

:04:02.:04:04.

It could lead to a law change that sees new parents

:04:05.:04:08.

have more time to spend with their babies in future.

:04:09.:04:14.

For the first time, it's been confirmed that the body recovered

:04:15.:04:18.

at Pleinmont by Guernsey Police on Christmas Eve is that of missing

:04:19.:04:21.

Mr Corbet was last seen getting off a bus at Pleinmont in June.

:04:22.:04:27.

The court heard that a group of young children found

:04:28.:04:31.

what was later confirmed to be Mr Corbet's body.

:04:32.:04:35.

This afternoon, a coroner declared the cause of the 59-year-old's death

:04:36.:04:39.

And finally tonight, a seal pup is making a good

:04:40.:04:44.

recovery after being rescued from a Jersey beach.

:04:45.:04:47.

Sammy, as she's been named, was flown to Guernsey for specialist

:04:48.:04:52.

treatment and now a few weeks on, although she's still underweight,

:04:53.:04:55.

Mike Wilkins has discovered that she's getting her appetite back.

:04:56.:05:07.

Just four weeks old, still severely underweight

:05:08.:05:10.

and fighting for its life, this seal pup's been named Sammy.

:05:11.:05:13.

She was rescued from Bonne Nuit Bay in Jersey a couple of weeks ago.

:05:14.:05:16.

She was flown to Guernsey for specialist treatment.

:05:17.:05:18.

And the good news is she's making encouraging progress and,

:05:19.:05:21.

as you can see, has started eating whole fish!

:05:22.:05:24.

The GSPCA says it's thrilled, especially after such

:05:25.:05:27.

an upsetting end to the year, when they lost two pups.

:05:28.:05:32.

Hopefully, all being well and good we will get her back into the waters

:05:33.:05:35.

We love to see local animal staying in local waters.

:05:36.:05:40.

We have been working together across the islands to help woke --

:05:41.:05:46.

If Sammy continues to recover well it could be up to six months

:05:47.:05:54.

before she's released back into Jersey waters.

:05:55.:06:03.

Have a lovely weekend and I'll leave you with

:06:04.:06:07.

Hello and good evening. We've got a quiet weekend ahead of us. It has

:06:08.:06:20.

been cloudy in general and the reason for that is a weather front

:06:21.:06:23.

that has been trapped into this area of high pressure which are still

:06:24.:06:27.

across us but has an awful lot of cloud in it and it could produce

:06:28.:06:31.

some drizzle. Brighter patches as we move into Sunday. Things change as

:06:32.:06:36.

we move into the early part of next week. Overnight tonight, not as cold

:06:37.:06:42.

as last night, the cloud producing some light rain and drizzle, West

:06:43.:06:48.

south-west winds, seven or six, the minimum temperature. Tomorrow, a

:06:49.:06:54.

grey day, low cloud around possibly some hill fog. Temperatures back up

:06:55.:07:04.

into double figures. The winds eventually become northwesterly to

:07:05.:07:07.

end the day. There is the forecast for the rest of the weekend and in

:07:08.:07:14.

into the early part of next week. Sunday a bit brighter. Monday, the

:07:15.:07:21.

winds increase. Monday night, patchy rain. Cooler and fresher air as we

:07:22.:07:27.

move into Tuesday. That is all from me. In a second, a full forecast for

:07:28.:07:37.

Good evening. The weather has been turning milder and also cloudier

:07:38.:07:43.

through the course of the day. We did see some clear spells moving in

:07:44.:07:47.

from the North will stop this was the sunset, captured in Dundee. Some

:07:48.:07:52.

clear spells as we headed through the course of the afternoon into the

:07:53.:07:55.

evening. Really, through the weekend, wiki with a similar theme.

:07:56.:08:00.

Much milder than it has been. A lot of cloud around in general, but for

:08:01.:08:04.

most of us think. Dry. Not dry everywhere at the moment,

:08:05.:08:06.

particularly across central and southern parts of England and Wales.

:08:07.:08:10.

We have a lot of cloud, bringing outbreaks of light rain and drizzle.

:08:11.:08:14.

The patchy rain will ease away slowly towards the south through

:08:15.:08:18.

tonight and further north across the country, drier conditions. Wherever

:08:19.:08:22.

you are, it's pretty cloudy. Mostly frost free to start the weekend, but

:08:23.:08:28.

there could be frost across the central glens of

:08:29.:08:29.
