Good evening, I'm Alison Moss. for the news where you are.

:00:13.:00:15.

A 38-year-old woman has admitted causing death by careless driving

:00:16.:00:17.

after a three year-old boy died in Jersey.

:00:18.:00:19.

Clinton Pringle was on his way to Millennium Park when he was hit

:00:20.:00:22.

But the guilty plea did not satisfy the prosecution so Rebekah Le Gal

:00:23.:00:28.

will still stand trial charged with the more serious

:00:29.:00:32.

offence of causing death by dangerous driving.

:00:33.:00:36.

Clinton Pringle was on holiday from Scotland, visiting family

:00:37.:00:40.

As he was walking into Millennium Town Park,

:00:41.:00:46.

he was hit by a Volkswagen transporter van on Tunnell Street.

:00:47.:00:50.

The three-year-old was flown to hospital in Southampton by air

:00:51.:00:53.

ambulance, but died a few days later from his injuries.

:00:54.:00:57.

Scores of tributes were left at the scene.

:00:58.:00:59.

Rebekah Le Gal was released on bail today after pleading not guilty

:01:00.:01:03.

to causing Clinton's death by driving dangerously -

:01:04.:01:07.

a charge that can carry up to ten years in prison.

:01:08.:01:10.

The 38-year-old will return to this court on

:01:11.:01:13.

the 13th June for her trial, although she will

:01:14.:01:16.

have the opportunity to re-enter her plea in May.

:01:17.:01:20.

Today she did admit to the lesser charge of causing death

:01:21.:01:23.

It carries a five-year prison sentence - that's half the amount

:01:24.:01:27.

of time you could spend in prison if found guilty

:01:28.:01:31.

But that count will not be dealt with until after her trial.

:01:32.:01:36.

:01:37.:01:40.

We don't believe we've been listened to - that's the message

:01:41.:01:43.

It's calling on the States to change new population laws which come

:01:44.:01:47.

Businesses want the government to reconsider restrictions on staff

:01:48.:01:52.

from outside the island limiting their stay to five years.

:01:53.:01:56.

This freight company provides a critical service, delivering food

:01:57.:02:03.

The business relies on overseas workers, and the manager says

:02:04.:02:09.

the new law will make it much harder to recruit the right people.

:02:10.:02:12.

We won't necessarily find those skills with local people.

:02:13.:02:16.

And it's a job to find the right people to do the job.

:02:17.:02:21.

In exactly a month, Guernsey's new population law comes into force.

:02:22.:02:26.

And businesses are very worried about it.

:02:27.:02:29.

A special meeting was held this morning by the Chamber of Commerce

:02:30.:02:32.

to highlight the new law, which they see as a

:02:33.:02:36.

This has been, you know, it has been too slow in development.

:02:37.:02:42.

We need to be much more responsive and dynamic to the needs

:02:43.:02:45.

of the economy right now, not just how they

:02:46.:02:47.

Let's just wait till the global economy has settled

:02:48.:02:53.

In a statement, the President of the Home Affairs Committee,

:02:54.:02:59.

Deputy Mary Lowe, says she understands the concerns the CGI

:03:00.:03:04.

has raised, but goes on to say the decision to delay now would have

:03:05.:03:07.

far-reaching and wider consequences for Guernsey's

:03:08.:03:08.

This man represents 100 non-finance companies in Guernsey.

:03:09.:03:13.

He says the civil servants and politicians haven't

:03:14.:03:15.

We'd like the law to be delayed whilst these

:03:16.:03:20.

We believe we've been consulted in the past,

:03:21.:03:24.

but we don't believe we've been listened to fully.

:03:25.:03:26.

For people like Martyn, this new law is already

:03:27.:03:30.

The verdict in the attempted murder trial of a man accused

:03:31.:03:37.

of stabbing his friend is expected tomorrow.

:03:38.:03:39.

49-year-old Gerard Eamon Maguire denies trying to stab

:03:40.:03:43.

Shaun Patrick Howard to death in the early hours of October

:03:44.:03:46.

The prosecution and defence closed their submissions late this

:03:47.:03:51.

The judge, Commissioner Sir Michael Birt, will give his

:03:52.:03:55.

A four-month-old puppy has been seized by Jersey Customs

:03:56.:04:01.

This is the second time in just over a year that officers have impounded

:04:02.:04:07.

Guiletta had been at her new home in Jersey for just two days

:04:08.:04:15.

when she was taken away by Jersey Customs for

:04:16.:04:18.

She had been initially let into the island last Sunday,

:04:19.:04:24.

when her family brought her over from Slovakia on a pet passport.

:04:25.:04:27.

Her owners claim they have all the correct documents

:04:28.:04:31.

and that Guiletta is an American Staffordshire Terrier.

:04:32.:04:34.

We have two options - send her back or give her

:04:35.:04:40.

to the animal shelter for four months, and after that, people

:04:41.:04:44.

If you have children and they told you you can't have the children,

:04:45.:04:51.

you have to send them back or we will take from you,

:04:52.:04:54.

It's not just dog, it's part of your family,

:04:55.:04:57.

No-one was available from the Home Affairs Department for an interview,

:04:58.:05:01.

I have documents from her parents, she is American Staffordshire

:05:02.:05:21.

Veronika and her family will have to wait while investigations

:05:22.:05:29.

continue into whether or not Guiletta can return home.

:05:30.:05:35.

There's been a landslide tonight in St Saviour in Guernsey.

:05:36.:05:41.

This was the scene earlier this evening just after it had happened.

:05:42.:05:45.

A large part of the Route A L'Or has been blocked.

:05:46.:05:48.

Radio Guernsey will bring you updates on when

:05:49.:05:50.

That's all the news from the Channel Islands

:05:51.:05:54.

for this Friday evening. Have a lovely weekend.

:05:55.:05:56.

I'll leave you now with the weather from David Braine.

:05:57.:06:10.

Hello, good even Inc. I know it is not to everyone's lightning but the

:06:11.:06:24.

rain this evening is quite welcome. I've settled this weekend, rain

:06:25.:06:30.

showers, it will also stay quite breezy two. The setup is for a lot

:06:31.:06:34.

of cloud as you can see from the satellite picture. Some holes in the

:06:35.:06:40.

cloud. The speckled nature, seeing cloud that can degenerate into

:06:41.:06:42.

showers. The cloud moves north, allowing a window of sunny spells

:06:43.:06:46.

and showers as well stop wet weather first thing on Sunday morning.

:06:47.:06:50.

Staying windy, temperatures into double figures. The showers we have

:06:51.:06:56.

seen today will continue for a time overnight but will gradually fade

:06:57.:07:02.

away and for a while, it becomes dry with clear skies and temperatures as

:07:03.:07:07.

low as six or 7 degrees. Tomorrow, we will see some sunshine, which

:07:08.:07:12.

went showers, sunny spells and the risk of a few showers at some point

:07:13.:07:15.

through the day, although the cloud is moving quite fast with a brisk

:07:16.:07:21.

westerly wind and just 10 degrees, but top temperature. More persistent

:07:22.:07:24.

rain on Sunday. Goodbye. Good evening, mixed fortunes this

:07:25.:07:44.

weekend. Today we saw a fair share of rain. This is the view one of our

:07:45.:07:50.

weather watchers in Doncaster. Not particularly inspiring. This weekend

:07:51.:07:54.

there will be some rain, but some of us

:07:55.:07:55.
