And now the news for the East Midlands, I'm Anne Davies. First | :00:15. | :00:21.
tonight ` the Prime Minister has been in the East Midlands today. He | :00:22. | :00:25.
told us new businesses are replacing jobs under threat in the region's | :00:26. | :00:29.
traditional industries. Mr Cameron viewed motorway works at Catthorpe | :00:30. | :00:32.
Junction in Leicestershire as he made the case for the effectiveness | :00:33. | :00:35.
of the Government's infrastructure spending programme. After his tour, | :00:36. | :00:38.
he spoke to our Home Affairs Correspondent, Jeremy Ball. It is | :00:39. | :00:47.
important to seek myself this is really important infrastructure | :00:48. | :00:51.
project, we need our roads to be working well, schemes like this | :00:52. | :00:58.
improve road safety and everybody knows where the M1 and the M6 meet | :00:59. | :01:03.
there have been a lot of traffic and accidents and this will make things | :01:04. | :01:07.
better. And this is economic success stories, in these traditional | :01:08. | :01:13.
industries it has been a tough time. The last cigarette factory is | :01:14. | :01:19.
closing down and the last deep coalmine. What you say to those | :01:20. | :01:23.
people? We need to grow the economy to create new jobs and there are | :01:24. | :01:28.
over 1.5 million more people in work today than there were four years | :01:29. | :01:32.
ago. In the East Midlands, 72,000 more people in work. Of course you | :01:33. | :01:38.
see some industries facing difficult times, new businesses, new jobs and | :01:39. | :01:42.
investment are coming including here. Many of the new jobs are | :01:43. | :01:49.
part`time jobs, zero contract hours. That isn't what I want but a few | :01:50. | :01:54.
look at the employment figures, the biggest level of growth in permanent | :01:55. | :01:59.
employment, full`time jobs. In the East Midlands we have seen a fall in | :02:00. | :02:02.
the number claiming unemployment benefits, 5000 fewer unemployed and | :02:03. | :02:09.
a lot of new private`sector jobs and new businesses starting up, 400,000 | :02:10. | :02:15.
businesses nationwide. We are seeing growth in the economy but what | :02:16. | :02:19.
matters is making sure the growth is felt across the country, not just | :02:20. | :02:23.
London and the south`east as transport has a huge role to play | :02:24. | :02:28.
which is why motorway scheme is matter and railways matter. I want | :02:29. | :02:32.
all of the country to benefit from the growth. | :02:33. | :02:40.
The owner of an animal rescue centre has denied more than 30 neglect | :02:41. | :02:43.
charges in court today. One allegation centres on the death of a | :02:44. | :02:47.
pig which made the headlines after it was rescued from its home ` | :02:48. | :02:50.
inside a house. Mike O'Sullivan watched the case at Stafford | :02:51. | :02:52.
Magistrates' Court. The former veterinary nurse who | :02:53. | :02:55.
denies 31 charges of neglect at our animal rescue sanctuary. Lindsay | :02:56. | :02:58.
Newall from Burton on Trent is facing the RSPCA allegations at | :02:59. | :03:01.
Stafford Magistrates' Court. She ran sanctuary in Etwall getting local | :03:02. | :03:04.
and national media coverage when she took in Babe the pig which had been | :03:05. | :03:08.
evicted after living with its owner a council house in Derby. The court | :03:09. | :03:15.
heard the pig was in good condition when she arrived at the sanctuary. | :03:16. | :03:18.
Concerns were raised about the welfare of animals by this | :03:19. | :03:21.
volunteer, and police and RSPCA raided the centre in November 2012. | :03:22. | :03:30.
The court heard the pig died as this man a trading standards officer | :03:31. | :03:33.
filmed the animal in a ramshackle pen. The RSPCA prosecutor said it | :03:34. | :03:40.
showed the pig was seriously undernourished, quite simply it died | :03:41. | :03:46.
because it was not properly fed. The court heard the sanctuary looked | :03:47. | :03:49.
after too many animals, including ponies, sheep, goats and rabbits. | :03:50. | :03:52.
There was no evidence Lindsay Newall arranged for veterinary treatment. | :03:53. | :03:55.
The case is expected to last for five days. | :03:56. | :04:09.
A Nottinghamshire conman has been jailed for three and a half years | :04:10. | :04:12.
for defrauding elderly and vulnerable people, for a second | :04:13. | :04:18.
time. 39`year`old John Cooney from Radcliffe`on`Trent admitted taking | :04:19. | :04:20.
over ten thousand pounds from at least ten victims aged from sixty | :04:21. | :04:23.
nine to ninety nine. He mis`sold sofas, stair lifts and mobility | :04:24. | :04:26.
scooters. In 2012, Cooney was sentenced to six months in prison, | :04:27. | :04:38.
also for mis`selling mobility aids. Next, new pictures of youngsters | :04:39. | :04:41.
risking their lives trespassing on train lines over Easter. Network | :04:42. | :04:45.
Rail and British Transport Police have brought back safety trains or | :04:46. | :04:48.
"Q trains" to try and deal with trespassers, thieves and vandals. Jo | :04:49. | :04:54.
Healey reports. Children trespassing near the Robin | :04:55. | :04:57.
Hood line at Easter unaware how incredibly dangerous it can be. The | :04:58. | :05:04.
railway is hazardous. Not places children should be playing on or | :05:05. | :05:08.
hanging around on. They are risking their lives. This is about safety | :05:09. | :05:12.
trains patrolling lines in the East Midlands. And by British Transport | :05:13. | :05:21.
Police officers and Network Rail. `` manned by. Searching for trespassers | :05:22. | :05:24.
and vandals. They started running in time for the Easter break in so far | :05:25. | :05:28.
they are making a difference. Last year, during Easter there were 41 | :05:29. | :05:31.
incidents, this year, so far there have been 33. They say the | :05:32. | :05:35.
improvement is slight and there is little room for complacency. We are | :05:36. | :05:40.
striving to reduce trespassing and vandalism and the aim is to get it | :05:41. | :05:44.
down to know incidents of trust pass and vandalism on the railway. Some | :05:45. | :05:51.
trains travel at 120 miles an hour, weighing 400 tonnes. It would take | :05:52. | :05:57.
the driver a mile and a quarter before he could stop so a few are a | :05:58. | :06:01.
child on the line, you would not stand a chance. This is the sort of | :06:02. | :06:08.
thing the safety trains look out for and they are desperate to stop it. | :06:09. | :06:12.
As the pictures from the Easter weekend show, some youngsters still | :06:13. | :06:21.
need to heed the warnings. Football now and Leicester City are | :06:22. | :06:25.
the Football League Champions. Victory at Bolton means they now | :06:26. | :06:29.
can't be caught at the top of the Championship and can celebrate with | :06:30. | :06:40.
two games to spare. Goodbye from me. Now, the weather. A | :06:41. | :06:47.
mixture of sunshine and April showers. The showers are hit and | :06:48. | :06:51.
miss. A few get one, you will know about it. Some warm sunshine in | :06:52. | :06:58.
between the showers. A few showers this evening are starting to fade | :06:59. | :07:03.
away, it will be tried for the rest of the night. A lot of cloud and | :07:04. | :07:06.
turning misty and murky but very mild. To my morning, dry, cloudy at | :07:07. | :07:15.
first `` tomorrow morning it will be dry. Some decent spells of sunshine | :07:16. | :07:21.
coming through, a few heavy showers across eastern parts of the East | :07:22. | :07:26.
Midlands. Elsewhere, we could stay dry, feeling quite pleasant. That is | :07:27. | :07:28.
if from us. Goodbye. is not looking too bad. That's | :07:29. | :07:39.
weather front. It is never too early to think about | :07:40. | :07:43.
next weekend and I will be doing that in a couple of minutes. But we | :07:44. | :07:49.
have a sizeable chunk of this week's whether to go first. There | :07:50. | :07:55.
are more showers, but there will be spells of warm sunshine around as | :07:56. | :07:59.
well, so there will be no frost at night. Bands of showers across the | :08:00. | :08:05.
western side of the UK and Scotland's passing through | :08:06. | :08:10.
overnight. Another heavy burst coming into the south-west later on | :08:11. | :08:17.
in the night. This rain band slowly comes in from the South West and | :08:18. | :08:20.
this is how Wednesday starts at eight o'clock in the morning. It | :08:21. | :08:26.
will turn out to be a warmer day in | :08:27. | :08:27. |
