You are watching East Midlands Today.

:00:09.:00:13.

Tonight, a major boost for manufacturing in this

:00:14.:00:15.

region as Toyota unveils a ?240 million investment plan.

:00:16.:00:21.

This investment is being seen as a huge list. Also tonight, Doctor who

:00:22.:00:31.

give a patient too much of a strong painkiller speaks at her inquest.

:00:32.:00:36.

Plus going with the full. Junction 19 of the M1 is officially opened

:00:37.:00:42.

after a major upgrade. And journey times are set to be cut by half an

:00:43.:00:47.

hour. And time for bed in one of the grandest beds in the country. It has

:00:48.:00:53.

certainly not been inexpensive. I think it is looking like the most

:00:54.:01:00.

spectacular piece of furniture in the house.

:01:01.:01:09.

First tonight, Toyota has announced a massive investment

:01:10.:01:13.

Thousands of people work there and the quarter

:01:14.:01:16.

of a billion pound injection will modernise its

:01:17.:01:18.

The company said no guarantees could be given about the long-term

:01:19.:01:21.

future of car marking in Derbyshire, but Toyota's president

:01:22.:01:23.

said it was a vote of confidence in the workforce.

:01:24.:01:36.

More than 4 million vehicles have rolled off the production line

:01:37.:01:39.

at Toyota in Derbyshire since production began in 1992,

:01:40.:01:43.

but the future of the plant has been far from secure since Brexit.

:01:44.:01:47.

Today, though, Toyota threw its support behind Burnaston

:01:48.:01:50.

by announcing a ?240 million upgrade of manufacturing facilities.

:01:51.:01:55.

Does it guarantee the future of car production here for Burnaston?

:01:56.:02:00.

We always have to be competitive and that means

:02:01.:02:06.

building cars with quality, high productivity, low-cost,

:02:07.:02:07.

but what this investment does do is it significantly supports that.

:02:08.:02:20.

But finally that is down to our members' skill and energy.

:02:21.:02:23.

This is a huge demonstration of the faith and confidence

:02:24.:02:25.

in the workforce here and that we can achieve the

:02:26.:02:28.

Toyota's investment is being backed up with ?21 million of government

:02:29.:02:31.

On a tour of the plan today, Business Secretary Greg Clark called

:02:32.:02:39.

Toyota's investment a boost to the UK car industry.

:02:40.:02:43.

How significant is this investment for securing jobs and future car

:02:44.:02:45.

A quarter of a billion is a lot of money by anyone's standards.

:02:46.:02:55.

And for Toyota globally to commit that to Derbyshire,

:02:56.:02:58.

Since Brexit, there has been widespread caution in the UK car

:02:59.:03:02.

manufacturing industry, with fears over possible

:03:03.:03:03.

This investment is being seen as a huge vote of confidence

:03:04.:03:10.

And it will also reassure some of the 2600 staff who work here.

:03:11.:03:24.

Our political editor Tony Roe is here now.

:03:25.:03:26.

Is this a sign that big global investors are committed

:03:27.:03:28.

to East Midlands industry, whether we are in

:03:29.:03:30.

Well, you would hope so, but the phrase in the report which leaked so

:03:31.:03:45.

it is no guarantees. I don't think you can guarantee anything. Toyota

:03:46.:03:49.

have always said they want to be as efficient as possible, whatever

:03:50.:03:54.

happens with Brexit. The fear is hard Brexit because that will be 10%

:03:55.:03:59.

on tariffs for most cars coming into our country. They don't want ?1500

:04:00.:04:07.

added to the price of each car. Nissan in October were given

:04:08.:04:12.

assurances from the government. We didn't find out what the support

:04:13.:04:16.

was, but we know with Toyota and the have been given 21 billion pounds --

:04:17.:04:25.

?21 million. No guarantee for the long term would suggest that the

:04:26.:04:35.

jury in Toyota in Japan is still out on Brexit. That is what you might

:04:36.:04:39.

think. Toyota are not going to want to invest a lot of money here. But a

:04:40.:04:54.

quarter of ?1 billion would indicate they see a big future here. Can you

:04:55.:05:01.

update is about election irregularities? It dates back to the

:05:02.:05:07.

by-election in 2014. The money spent on the local campaign. We know that

:05:08.:05:18.

they have an allowance of around ?15,000 they are allowed to spend

:05:19.:05:25.

locally. Year, there seems to have been lines blurred between national

:05:26.:05:29.

expenses and local expenses. Money was spent to put up people in hotels

:05:30.:05:36.

who were campaigning. The rule they have to obey by me come up, and it

:05:37.:05:40.

is a rule all candidates have to stick to, if they come from outside

:05:41.:05:48.

the region, don't mention the local candidate. There has been some

:05:49.:05:57.

muddying of the water. We know that 70,000 pounds has been fined. One

:05:58.:06:03.

Conservative MP has told me it was a clock up. Other parties have fallen

:06:04.:06:07.

foul of the same electoral commission. Labour were fined over

:06:08.:06:15.

the 2015 spending on the headstone for Ed Miliband is's policy. They

:06:16.:06:22.

forgot to declare it. Thank you. A GP who mistakenly prescribed 10

:06:23.:06:30.

times the dosage of a strong painkiller to a woman who died,

:06:31.:06:33.

has apologised to her family. 27-year-old Kymberley Holden

:06:34.:06:37.

from Derbyshire died hours Dr Lawrence Axten told an inquest

:06:38.:06:39.

that he was in shock Kymberley Holden suffered three

:06:40.:06:54.

bouts of severe pain in her right leg. She had lost use of the leg

:06:55.:07:01.

months earlier. She used a wheelchair after having been

:07:02.:07:09.

diagnosed with MS. She took liquid painkillers. In the middle of the

:07:10.:07:13.

night, she was found unconscious on the floor by her boyfriend. She

:07:14.:07:19.

later died in hospital. At the inquest, the GP explained how he

:07:20.:07:29.

made the error of prescribing ten times the amount of the medicine. He

:07:30.:07:34.

said while using the computer prescription system, he thought he

:07:35.:07:38.

was prescribing the correct dosage. He learned of his error in April

:07:39.:07:44.

2015. At that point, he said, I was in quite a lot of shock. I couldn't

:07:45.:07:51.

believe I had done it, to be honest. The postmortem report found one of

:07:52.:07:58.

the causes of death was poisoning. At the start of the inquest, the

:07:59.:08:05.

toxicologist said the level of that drug after her death was incredibly

:08:06.:08:12.

high. Dr Lawrence Axten's said to her family, I am very sorry, I truly

:08:13.:08:17.

am. The inquest is expected to conclude tomorrow.

:08:18.:08:22.

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of committing a series

:08:23.:08:25.

Earlier this week, detectives began a major appeal to find a serial

:08:26.:08:29.

attacker who seriously assaulted four women over two

:08:30.:08:31.

They received 180 pieces of information from the public.

:08:32.:08:34.

A 23-year-old man from Chaddesden has been arrested and is being

:08:35.:08:37.

Nottingham City Council has found a potential buyer

:08:38.:08:52.

for the Imperial Tobacco Horizon Factory in Nottingham.

:08:53.:08:54.

A report by the authority says a company has been identified that

:08:55.:08:57.

will bring jobs back to the historic site.

:08:58.:08:59.

The buyer is expected to re-develop the site subject

:09:00.:09:01.

The 50-year-old building has been up for sale since March last year.

:09:02.:09:09.

One of Nottingham's busiest streets will fully re-open later after four

:09:10.:09:11.

National Grid says it has managed to fix a number of leaks

:09:12.:09:16.

The holes in the road have been filled in,

:09:17.:09:19.

but the tarmac has needed time to set.

:09:20.:09:21.

It means the westbound stretch won't be open

:09:22.:09:23.

Still to come: warm one day, bitter the next.

:09:24.:09:32.

High pressure has been in charge for the last few days. That has given us

:09:33.:09:45.

some sunshine. With low pressure on the way, we expect wet weather at

:09:46.:09:50.

the weekend. I will have a full forecast later in the programme.

:09:51.:09:55.

If you are a regular user of the M1, you will be pleased to hear your

:09:56.:09:59.

journey time through one of the motorway's busiest stretches

:10:00.:10:01.

could now be reduced by around half an hour.

:10:02.:10:03.

That is because a major upgrade has been completed at junction 19

:10:04.:10:06.

Our reporter is there for us this evening.

:10:07.:10:17.

When you have got a junction where the M1, M6 and A14 all meet,

:10:18.:10:22.

you are going to have a lot of traffic.

:10:23.:10:25.

150,000 vehicles pass through here every day and it had

:10:26.:10:29.

become a real bottleneck with collisions

:10:30.:10:32.

But after three years of construction, the cones are up,

:10:33.:10:37.

It is the southern gateway to the East Midlands.

:10:38.:10:49.

The point where the M1, M6 and A14 meet.

:10:50.:10:51.

Today, it was officially opened by senior members

:10:52.:10:55.

of Highways England with the local MP watching on.

:10:56.:10:57.

When construction began at junction 19 three years

:10:58.:10:59.

ago, it attracted the interest of David Cameron and George Osborne.

:11:00.:11:02.

We were shown how ?191 million would be spent to improve the daily

:11:03.:11:05.

Now drivers no longer has to negotiate roundabouts between the M6

:11:06.:11:13.

A14, there are flyovers connecting the A14 to the M1.

:11:14.:11:16.

And there is now a new local link road

:11:17.:11:29.

reconnecting the villages of Cathorpe and Swinford.

:11:30.:11:35.

So how much M1 misery has it been alleviating?

:11:36.:11:37.

M1 junction 19 has seen significant improvements to journey times.

:11:38.:11:40.

We're getting reports journey time improvement of up to 30 minutes.

:11:41.:11:42.

All the traffic management has been lifted for the scheme.

:11:43.:11:45.

We have got all the new scheme is fully opened

:11:46.:11:47.

We expect to see big improvements to people's gurneys on

:11:48.:11:51.

We expect to see big improvements to people's journerys on

:11:52.:11:53.

The statistics are impressive to build it.

:11:54.:11:56.

14,000 cubic metres of concrete poured.

:11:57.:12:00.

They even had to build eight temporary roads during the

:12:01.:12:02.

It puts us right on the centre of the economic map.

:12:03.:12:06.

Look, this is where the M1 and the M6

:12:07.:12:08.

These are two of Britain's principal motorways.

:12:09.:12:11.

This will help get Britain moving faster.

:12:12.:12:12.

It means the East Midlands will be premiered beneficiary of this new

:12:13.:12:20.

refurbished infrastructure project. Junction 19's official opening comes

:12:21.:12:24.

in the same month as a multi-million pound project was announced to

:12:25.:12:33.

improve junction 23 on the M1. The Junction has been in use since

:12:34.:12:41.

the end of the year. Highways England say they have received many

:12:42.:12:47.

appreciative messages. One motorists said it has been improved beyond

:12:48.:12:52.

belief. Someone else told them, I drove 70 miles an hour, so

:12:53.:12:57.

freefalling. If you thought you had seen the back of all restrictions in

:12:58.:13:04.

this area, you will be disappointed. Smart motorway construction

:13:05.:13:08.

continues between junctions 16 and 19. That is until the end of the

:13:09.:13:11.

year. Thank you.

:13:12.:13:14.

Two former BBC Radio Leicester presenters have pleaded not guilty

:13:15.:13:16.

in connection with sex offences against boys under the age of 18.

:13:17.:13:19.

69-year-old Tony Wadsworth from Broughton Astley

:13:20.:13:20.

and his 59-year-old wife Julie appeared at Warwick Crown

:13:21.:13:22.

Their trial will get under way on 15 May.

:13:23.:13:41.

Derbyshire Police are investigating a sexual assault

:13:42.:13:43.

A 39-year-old woman was running along a canal path

:13:44.:13:46.

towards Ambergate from Whatstandwell when she was approached by a man

:13:47.:13:49.

He then ran off towards Whatstandwell.

:13:50.:13:52.

Officers say the incident is not linked to the sexual assaults

:13:53.:13:54.

The Galleries of Justice in Nottingham is to re-open next

:13:55.:13:58.

month with a new name, after a ?1 million makeover.

:13:59.:14:00.

The former courthouse and jail will be known

:14:01.:14:02.

Visitors will see new interactive displays and an exhibition

:14:03.:14:06.

The organisation will also be launching new education programmes

:14:07.:14:09.

Controversial plans for a treatment centre to help street drinkers

:14:10.:14:45.

The recovery hub will replace the ageing Anchor Centre which has

:14:46.:14:48.

Plans were approved by Leicester City Council last night.

:14:49.:14:52.

The new centre will be near Humberstone Gate in the city.

:14:53.:14:55.

Nearby businesses say they're concerned about alcoholics

:14:56.:14:57.

We want to help the area are reduced levels of drinking on the streets

:14:58.:15:01.

and anti-social behaviour associated with it.

:15:02.:15:05.

And we have a report from those who understand the issues very well.

:15:06.:15:09.

To mark the BBC's school report news day, young people from our region

:15:10.:15:12.

have been making news reports about things that matter to them.

:15:13.:15:15.

And, according to research for School Report, half

:15:16.:15:17.

of all teenagers with mental well-being issues try to cope alone.

:15:18.:15:19.

At the Willow Bank Hospital School in Leicester teenagers told

:15:20.:15:22.

It is quite embarrassing telling people your age that

:15:23.:15:35.

I have never been diagnosed with anything.

:15:36.:15:38.

One minute I am like OK, the next I am not.

:15:39.:15:40.

Working with them, day in, day out, this thing you realise

:15:41.:15:43.

is that they feel a sense of hopelessness at their inability

:15:44.:15:46.

to get across their message to the world.

:15:47.:15:47.

And it is not very often they get a chance to broadcast it.

:15:48.:15:50.

There was a lot of people bullying me, and that stopped me

:15:51.:15:54.

As well as that, you have to do some volunteering so your CV looks good.

:15:55.:16:02.

As well as that, you've got to get a job.

:16:03.:16:04.

And as well as that you've got to go to a club so it looks

:16:05.:16:08.

I have had a few suicide attempts, most of them I end up in hospital.

:16:09.:16:12.

To stop myself from constantly feeling down, I make jokes.

:16:13.:16:15.

But if I didn't make jokes, I think I would just cry.

:16:16.:16:18.

Cyberbullying is extremely damaging to use nowadays.

:16:19.:16:20.

Cyberbullying is extremely damaging to youths nowadays.

:16:21.:16:22.

Being able to talk about why they are here is massive

:16:23.:16:29.

for our students because the primary coping strategy for a lot of our

:16:30.:16:32.

students is pretending everything is fine until they crashed

:16:33.:16:34.

of our students is pretending everything is fine until they crash

:16:35.:16:37.

It makes you the person that you are in the future.

:16:38.:16:41.

And in the future, gradually, things start to get better.

:16:42.:16:43.

And there are some more school reports from 11 to 16 year

:16:44.:16:46.

First, Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare says he doesn't

:16:47.:16:59.

care that his team are the last English side left in this

:17:00.:17:03.

After Manchester City were knocked out last night,

:17:04.:17:07.

the Foxes are carrying the Premier League flag alone into

:17:08.:17:12.

But Shakespeare has a relegation battle on his mind, and is only

:17:13.:17:17.

It is about solely that we put in a performance that made everyone

:17:18.:17:23.

proud on Tuesday night, in terms of this football club.

:17:24.:17:25.

And that is really our aim, looking forward.

:17:26.:17:28.

We have to make sure that we are not only competitive in any game,

:17:29.:17:36.

but every game we go into, we try to get a result.

:17:37.:17:39.

At the City Ground the new manager Mark Warburton says

:17:40.:17:42.

Nottingham Forest is a club of stature and it needs stability

:17:43.:17:44.

He has been speaking at a press conference

:17:45.:17:51.

Here's the man Nottingham Forest have turned to to save their

:17:52.:18:02.

championship status. Mark Warburton was appointed on Tuesday. Today, his

:18:03.:18:07.

first Nottingham Forest press conference. It excites me. There is

:18:08.:18:16.

a job to be done here. There is no doubt about the potential. He has

:18:17.:18:23.

become the eighth manager since the new owner came in nearly five years

:18:24.:18:28.

ago. Had he been given any reassurances of your position if the

:18:29.:18:35.

club is sold in the summer? I have received the guarantees I need to

:18:36.:18:39.

receive. I am comfortable and confident they are moving forward.

:18:40.:18:50.

He is 54 years old. He became a coach ten years ago. His first

:18:51.:18:55.

managerial job was taking Brentford from League 1 to the championship

:18:56.:18:58.

play-offs. Highly thought of in England, he went to Scotland and

:18:59.:19:04.

secured Glasgow Rangers's return to the Scottish Premiership. Best

:19:05.:19:07.

appointment he has made since he came in. Every time we get one, they

:19:08.:19:18.

never have time. Just gets sacked. Same routine. He did well at

:19:19.:19:23.

Brentford. He left Rangers in a bit of a cloud. But it is a new start

:19:24.:19:30.

for Nottingham Forest and him. Nottingham Forest are two points

:19:31.:19:36.

above the relegation zone. Did you feel it was a calculated risk coming

:19:37.:19:40.

here? Nottingham Forest have so little time to try to stay in the

:19:41.:19:44.

division. Nine tough games coming up. This division is relentless. You

:19:45.:19:53.

live and die by the quality of the decisions. But the size of the club,

:19:54.:20:02.

their history, that has to excite you. He has to hit the ground

:20:03.:20:09.

running. His next game is the biggest of the season, the East

:20:10.:20:11.

Midlands derby. So, Warburton will be in the dug out

:20:12.:20:15.

for Forest at the City Ground. Facing him will be Derby County's

:20:16.:20:18.

new man Gary Rowett. Today in the build up to the game

:20:19.:20:21.

Rowett says he has met He also confirmed that

:20:22.:20:24.

Forest were interested I think with the Nottingham Forest

:20:25.:20:27.

thing, there was interest from different factions,

:20:28.:20:31.

but it was obviously a very messy situation with different people

:20:32.:20:33.

trying to perhaps by the club, situation with different people

:20:34.:20:38.

trying to perhaps buy the club, But, you know, at no point

:20:39.:20:40.

was I physically offer that job. But, you know, at no point

:20:41.:20:47.

was I physically offered that job. It's a club that, you know, probably

:20:48.:20:50.

in a different way to Derby, As far as I'm concerned,

:20:51.:20:54.

if you're giving me the opportunity of the two clubs, I don't think it

:20:55.:21:02.

would've been that Now, a bit of a landmark moment

:21:03.:21:05.

for basketball in Leicester. The Riders men are well

:21:06.:21:09.

used to big finals. And this weekend - in Glasgow -

:21:10.:21:11.

they will defend the BBL What is different this time is that

:21:12.:21:14.

joining them in Glasgow They are contesting

:21:15.:21:18.

their first major trophy. A little game of three on three

:21:19.:21:23.

is supposed to be a bit of fun, but the men are taking

:21:24.:21:42.

it way too seriously. Now, every competition should

:21:43.:21:44.

feel easy after that. So I thought we prepared

:21:45.:21:57.

them pretty well. The women's team at Hall definitely

:21:58.:21:59.

have glory on their mind. It's been a swift rise to second

:22:00.:22:04.

in the league and the Trophy final. Personnel wise, we have great

:22:05.:22:07.

players who have joined our team. Our coach emphasises

:22:08.:22:10.

the attitude of saying positive. The camaraderie is right there now

:22:11.:22:13.

because we are playing so well. It's been such a success

:22:14.:22:16.

since I've been here, so our spirits are very high

:22:17.:22:21.

and we are all very pumped. As for the men, they are

:22:22.:22:24.

the defending Trophy holders. No matter if this is a final

:22:25.:22:26.

or a regular-season game, No matter if this is a final

:22:27.:22:38.

or a regular season game, We describe here and play the full

:22:39.:22:41.

40 minutes and just keep going. Back in the three on three,

:22:42.:22:45.

the men's captain It may not look like it from that,

:22:46.:22:48.

but everyone insists We both want to be coming back

:22:49.:22:52.

with the trophy and I think their support in our game earlier

:22:53.:22:58.

that day and our support of them in the afternoon

:22:59.:23:01.

will definitely help. Both teams are on the BBC sport

:23:02.:23:19.

website on Sunday. You can watch them in full.

:23:20.:23:21.

Thank you. Now, it may only be tea-time,

:23:22.:23:23.

but if you fancy a lie down, we have news of a rather swish place

:23:24.:23:26.

to lay your head. It is the huge state bed

:23:27.:23:29.

at Kedleston Hall which has been restored to its former glory -

:23:30.:23:32.

complete with new The bed is the impressive

:23:33.:23:34.

centrepiece of a 30 year long restoration of the Derbyshire

:23:35.:23:39.

stately home's grandest rooms. Curtain up at last on one

:23:40.:23:45.

of the finest pieces The grand state bed

:23:46.:23:48.

at Kedleston Hall in Derbyshire. Made by craftsmen in the 1760s,

:23:49.:23:52.

the bed is now back To use a 21st-century term,

:23:53.:23:54.

its sort of bling had gone. Things like the raid and the lease

:23:55.:24:10.

had gone or got very tarnished. And it ended up not having

:24:11.:24:13.

an accurate replica of the original And it felt really important

:24:14.:24:16.

that we sort of got that. And it felt really important

:24:17.:24:20.

that we sort of got that back. Simon and a team of conservatives

:24:21.:24:23.

and modern craftspeople laboured to restore the carvings,

:24:24.:24:27.

silk banners and gilding. Surprisingly, all that gold had

:24:28.:24:29.

a practical function back So the gilding is

:24:30.:24:32.

luxurious material. The room would have been lit

:24:33.:24:34.

by candles, there would've a fire. It wouldn't have been

:24:35.:24:38.

terribly bright. And all this gilding helped

:24:39.:24:40.

you find your way to the bed. It helped people navigate

:24:41.:24:43.

their way around the room The bed had been designed

:24:44.:24:47.

for a monarch's visit. Sadly one never came

:24:48.:24:50.

to Kedleston Hall, It was partly designed

:24:51.:24:52.

in the hope of a royal visit. This was a family who were very

:24:53.:24:57.

much sort of upping Kedleston was really built

:24:58.:25:00.

as a way for the family to show they had money,

:25:01.:25:08.

but more importantly, The rooms tended to get more

:25:09.:25:10.

and more grand the further around So the bed is really intended to be

:25:11.:25:14.

that sort of great final It has taken 30 years to restore

:25:15.:25:21.

all the finest rooms in the house. Now, as this season starts,

:25:22.:25:25.

the bed can be seen once The throw and curtains are missing.

:25:26.:25:44.

Everyone knows a good bed needs that.

:25:45.:25:52.

We have had sunny spells throughout much of this week. Scattered showers

:25:53.:25:56.

on the way. Some blue sky over the region earlier, but over the weekend

:25:57.:26:01.

we will look to the flowers for some brightness, not the skies. Thanks

:26:02.:26:05.

for your pictures. Tomorrow, we expect some bright spells in the

:26:06.:26:10.

morning. We expect wet weather later on in the day. This was the picture

:26:11.:26:15.

earlier on. Lots of cloud around. Breaking up towards the end of the

:26:16.:26:21.

afternoon, so some brightness. Detail for the next few days,

:26:22.:26:25.

high-pressure is moving out of the way. Low-pressure working its way

:26:26.:26:29.

and. We expect to see some wet weather. Let's look at the deep

:26:30.:26:34.

chill overnight tonight. Patchy shower starting to move across the

:26:35.:26:40.

region. Clearer spells in the early hours as well. Lohse night of around

:26:41.:26:45.

4 degrees. Tomorrow morning, we will see some bright spells to begin

:26:46.:26:49.

with. Cloud will push on from the north and west. Some rain with that

:26:50.:26:56.

as well. Highs of around 10 degrees. It will feel chilly at times

:26:57.:27:03.

tomorrow. Breezy as well. We expect more rain on the way, not a complete

:27:04.:27:08.

wash-out at the weekend. Temperature is recovering a little as well. As

:27:09.:27:16.

he looked towards next week, again more fronts coming in our direction,

:27:17.:27:21.

so more rain on the way. Enjoy the brightness when you see it because

:27:22.:27:26.

we expect quite a deal of wet weather over the course of the

:27:27.:27:28.

weekend. I am going to buy cushions and a

:27:29.:27:41.

throw. Apparently they are required. The new! Goodbye.

:27:42.:27:48.

It was the most beautiful view I've ever been through.

:27:49.:27:53.

For one second, I was swimming on my back, and I was looking to the sky.

:27:54.:27:58.

I was swimming across the Aegean Sea.

:27:59.:28:04.

I was a refugee, going from Syria to Germany.
