and on BBC One we now join the BBC's news teams where you are. | :00:00. | :00:00.
It's almost 6.30 - you're watching East Midlands Today. | :00:00. | :00:00.
Our top story tonight - the father who says he's been | :00:00. | :00:07.
battling to make sense of his son's death overseas. | :00:08. | :00:16.
Kona Gamble died in Cyprus. His inquest has taken almost three and a | :00:17. | :00:24.
half years. 12 or 13 times it was adjourned, and it is just... It has | :00:25. | :00:29.
been really hard. Plus, the crematorium raising money | :00:30. | :00:33.
for children by recycling any metals we leave behind. | :00:34. | :00:39.
Also tonight, we are on the campaign trail with the Conservatives, | :00:40. | :00:44.
looking to bowl over voters here in Nottinghamshire, one of only two | :00:45. | :00:47.
Labour controlled county councils in the country. | :00:48. | :00:51.
And the shock announcement two days before the season starts that Notts | :00:52. | :00:57.
County Ladies will fold. It is heartbreaking seeing her mates, | :00:58. | :01:01.
people you might not see again who you have lived with for years. | :01:02. | :01:11.
Welcome to Friday's programme, with Anne Davies | :01:12. | :01:13.
First tonight - years of unbearable waiting, | :01:14. | :01:17.
That's the nightmare that's engulfed the family of a Leicester man | :01:18. | :01:22.
Kona Gamble fell from a hotel roof in Cyprus. | :01:23. | :01:28.
But almost three and a half years later, his family say | :01:29. | :01:30.
they still don't know how he got there or who they blame. | :01:31. | :01:33.
21-year-old Kona Gamble from Leicester died while on holiday | :01:34. | :01:40.
in Ayia Napa in Cyprus with a group of friends in August 2013. | :01:41. | :01:46.
After a dozen adjournments, the inquest there has only | :01:47. | :01:48.
It's every day, you think about it every day. | :01:49. | :01:54.
12 times, 13 times it was adjourned, and it's just... | :01:55. | :02:00.
It has been really hard, because you think about it every day. | :02:01. | :02:05.
CCTV from his hotel passed to the Gamble family | :02:06. | :02:08.
by the Leicester coroner shows Kona returning alone from | :02:09. | :02:11.
The Gamble family lawyer in Cyprus told me the inquest found that Kona | :02:12. | :02:20.
got onto the flat roof of the hotel and tried to jump onto his own | :02:21. | :02:24.
balcony, where he was found badly injured at an air conditioning unit. | :02:25. | :02:29.
But he said the judge raised questions about whether the hotel | :02:30. | :02:32.
took all necessary measures to prevent guests | :02:33. | :02:34.
The lawyer said the judge concluded that there was evidence | :02:35. | :02:40.
Even though the hotel denies it, the police believe that he must | :02:41. | :02:48.
have fallen onto a door that was unlocked, and the judge | :02:49. | :02:51.
accepted the police's view on the matter, that one of two doors | :02:52. | :02:55.
were left open and he managed to get on the roof. | :02:56. | :03:00.
Thomas Cook, which organised the holiday, said they were deeply | :03:01. | :03:03.
saddened and were continuing to work closely on the highest standards | :03:04. | :03:06.
The hotel said it was sorry for the family's loss, | :03:07. | :03:12.
Many of Kona's organs were donated in Nicosia. | :03:13. | :03:17.
One recipient thanked the family via social media. | :03:18. | :03:21.
It was just great, just for one person, and maybe Kona helped | :03:22. | :03:24.
eight or nine people, you know, that day, but for just one person | :03:25. | :03:28.
Yeah, and we speak on Facebook, regular. | :03:29. | :03:33.
Dorian Gamble has tattoos to remember Kona. | :03:34. | :03:36.
A full inquest will now be held in Leicester, | :03:37. | :03:38.
giving the family the chance to hear all of the evidence, | :03:39. | :03:41.
as they could not get to the hearings in Cyprus. | :03:42. | :03:44.
Mike O'Sullivan, BBC East Midlands Today, Leicester. | :03:45. | :03:53.
Next, a crematorium in Leicester is raising thousands of pounds for | :03:54. | :03:58.
charity through recycling metal reclaimed from cremation. The | :03:59. | :04:05.
crematorium has raised 43rd -- ?47,000, much of it has gone to a | :04:06. | :04:06.
children's hospice. From steel hip and knee joints, the | :04:07. | :04:16.
coffin screws. This is what is recovered from crematorium passions. | :04:17. | :04:19.
This metal has been collected at Gill rose in Leicester since October | :04:20. | :04:24.
for recycling. It will be smelted, refined and sold. We have been | :04:25. | :04:33.
committing at Gilrose for 100 years, which has produced a lot of metal | :04:34. | :04:36.
and before, it would have been buried somewhere in the grounds. As | :04:37. | :04:41.
environmental awareness is grown, people are more concerned about the | :04:42. | :04:44.
environment impact of cremation, the legislation has changed, this has | :04:45. | :04:49.
led us to look at alternative means. Gilroes is part of a national scheme | :04:50. | :04:52.
to recycle metal like this, with profits going to charity. Families | :04:53. | :04:58.
choose to give their consent to it when applying for cremation. Here, | :04:59. | :05:05.
almost all do. Around 2500 commissions are carried out here at | :05:06. | :05:09.
Gilroes every year. -- cremations. Raising thousands of pounds for its | :05:10. | :05:17.
chosen parity dullard charity, Rainbows children's hospice. So far | :05:18. | :05:26.
this year, it has received ?5,000. -- its chosen charity. It is a way | :05:27. | :05:30.
of turning what is a very sad, tragic in many cases time for | :05:31. | :05:35.
families into one that has a positive outcome. As well as raising | :05:36. | :05:40.
money for Jordan, the material will be used to manufacture modern | :05:41. | :05:43.
orthopaedic implants or turned into a raft of products. -- raising money | :05:44. | :05:48.
for children. Giving new life to the metals we leave behind. | :05:49. | :05:55.
He would never think there would be so much metal! -- you would never | :05:56. | :05:58.
think. Plenty to get you thinking tonight, | :05:59. | :05:58.
and there's lots more ahead. Including - the owner | :05:59. | :06:01.
of Notts County Ladies, who's coming in to explain | :06:02. | :06:03.
what's gone on. We meet the new wave | :06:04. | :06:05.
of poets making their mark. And something else making its mark, | :06:06. | :06:16.
the cooler weather on the way next week. | :06:17. | :06:21.
Part of the A38 in Derbyshire has been closed | :06:22. | :06:23.
At one stage there were said to be three miles of queues. | :06:24. | :06:29.
One car overturned on the southbound carriageway near Alfreton, | :06:30. | :06:32.
Earlier, a section of the the A52 in Nottinghamshire was closed | :06:33. | :06:38.
It happened just past the Wheatcroft Island near Edwalton. | :06:39. | :06:42.
Online donors have now given more than ?630,000 to a teenager who had | :06:43. | :06:50.
the lower part of both his legs amputated after a crash | :06:51. | :06:54.
Billy Monger, who's 17, was involved in a collision | :06:55. | :06:59.
with another car which appeared to have stopped on the track. | :07:00. | :07:02.
Formula One drivers have contributed to the fund, | :07:03. | :07:05.
of Billy's Derbyshire-based racing team. | :07:06. | :07:10.
The Derbyshire retailer Sports Direct has entered | :07:11. | :07:13.
the American market by buying 50 shops for nearly ?80 million. | :07:14. | :07:17.
The company, which is based at Shirebrook in Derbyshire, | :07:18. | :07:20.
is taking over stores which sell clothing, sportswear | :07:21. | :07:22.
Shares in Mike Ashley's company, which rose after | :07:23. | :07:26.
The Secretary of State for Local Government and Communities | :07:27. | :07:34.
was in the region today, trying to drum up support | :07:35. | :07:37.
for the Conservatives in the local elections. | :07:38. | :07:40.
The County Council vote is still going ahead as planned, | :07:41. | :07:42.
and will now take place in the middle of | :07:43. | :07:44.
the general election campaign launched earlier this week. | :07:45. | :07:46.
We have the last two shire County Councils in England | :07:47. | :07:49.
still controlled by Labour - Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. | :07:50. | :07:51.
So, we're a key battleground in the local fight. | :07:52. | :07:53.
But whoever wins, our County Councils are facing huge changes | :07:54. | :07:55.
in the way they get money to pay for our services. | :07:56. | :07:58.
Laid to one of Nottinghamshire was my most famous landmarks, | :07:59. | :08:09.
communities and Local Government Secretary Sajid Javid was on the | :08:10. | :08:12.
campaign trail at Trent Bridge today. It has been seven years not | :08:13. | :08:16.
out for the Conservative Government, and while they are looking towards | :08:17. | :08:21.
winning another term in the general election, it is all to play for in | :08:22. | :08:26.
the local elections first. Here in Nottinghamshire, 66 seats are being | :08:27. | :08:29.
contested. At the moment the council is made up of 32 Labour members, 21 | :08:30. | :08:35.
Conservative and the rest independent and Lib Dems. The | :08:36. | :08:38.
overall majority winning party would have to have 34 members to take | :08:39. | :08:45.
overall control at County Hall. And Sajid Javid's visit was all about | :08:46. | :08:49.
persuading voters that the Labour innings should be over. In | :08:50. | :08:53.
Nottinghamshire we want to make sure the Conservatives can come back into | :08:54. | :08:57.
office, they did a fantastic job and have an excellent track record. The | :08:58. | :09:02.
drug also took in Westbridge library which was an overhaul in 2013. | :09:03. | :09:08.
County councils are responsible for major services like education, | :09:09. | :09:11.
social services, I'm Owais -- highways and the arm. Many are | :09:12. | :09:16.
warning council tax will have to go up to fund the increasing cost of | :09:17. | :09:21.
adult social care. When it comes to tough spending decisions, you can | :09:22. | :09:24.
decide to pass the burden to local people for higher taxes, or as you | :09:25. | :09:28.
will find with most Conservative councils, they try much harder to | :09:29. | :09:32.
look for savings at home first by finding efficiencies. If we have | :09:33. | :09:36.
Conservatives back at the County Council, does that mean we will see | :09:37. | :09:40.
services cut? I think it means the opposite. It means you will see | :09:41. | :09:45.
better services using --, you will see Walcott services, but the lowest | :09:46. | :09:49.
cost for a local people. The local elections take place on the 4th of | :09:50. | :09:51.
May. Well, Derbyshire is the other county | :09:52. | :09:52.
shire still in Labour hands. There, one of the vital services | :09:53. | :09:55.
supported by council funding So, people are looking closely | :09:56. | :09:57.
at what might happen to funding for those services | :09:58. | :10:03.
after the local elections. James Roberson has been | :10:04. | :10:07.
to Derbyshire to talk to a charity which runs community transport | :10:08. | :10:09.
buses, mainly for the elderly - a charity that's wondering what this | :10:10. | :10:12.
election, and future funding It may seem like a rural idyll, but | :10:13. | :10:27.
the reality of living in country towns and villages is that without | :10:28. | :10:30.
private transport, travelling is difficult. John is both driver and | :10:31. | :10:38.
Chairman of the community transport. This September, their support grant | :10:39. | :10:42.
is due to be cut entirely, so they are looking closely at the result of | :10:43. | :10:46.
the forthcoming County Council election. We are hoping that all the | :10:47. | :10:51.
parties that are involved look at the current proposed cuts and | :10:52. | :10:59.
virtually reversed them. The Derbyshire -- but Derbyshire is | :11:00. | :11:02.
facing increasingly difficult financial choices. The revenue | :11:03. | :11:05.
support grant, millions from the Government to support councils, is | :11:06. | :11:09.
ending. So Derbyshire will see its government funding goal from ?44 | :11:10. | :11:15.
million this year to zero by 2020. So what might future cuts mean for | :11:16. | :11:20.
transport companies and charities? Unless the local councils themselves | :11:21. | :11:25.
actually step up the funding, I can see transport going down roots that | :11:26. | :11:33.
are not viable financially. The Government hopes a new marriage of | :11:34. | :11:38.
council tax, business rates and new homes bonuses will support councils | :11:39. | :11:41.
in the future. This charity hopes they will not simply be relying on | :11:42. | :11:43.
public generosity. A widower's going to cycle 1,600 | :11:44. | :11:47.
miles across Europe to raise awareness of a painful condition | :11:48. | :11:50.
suffered by his late wife. Sandra Watson had lived for several | :11:51. | :11:52.
years with lymphoedema, which causes extremely painful | :11:53. | :11:55.
swellings in the limbs, But she discovered exercise - | :11:56. | :11:59.
particularly cycling - So now her husband's | :12:00. | :12:03.
encouraging others Preparing to cross countries between | :12:04. | :12:20.
the two homes he had shared with his wife. Tomorrow, Jerry Watson and his | :12:21. | :12:29.
friends will leave the cycles to southern Spain. Sandra, his wife, | :12:30. | :12:34.
died from cancer last March but for years she had also had lymphoedema, | :12:35. | :12:38.
swollen legs caused by the body's lymphatic system failing to drain | :12:39. | :12:43.
away fluid. Initially told to rest, she was later given new advice, to | :12:44. | :12:47.
get active. Running was not an option for her, walking was painful, | :12:48. | :12:52.
but she found that cycling was something she could do. The first | :12:53. | :12:56.
time she did it, she got maybe 200 metres of the road and gradually | :12:57. | :13:00.
every day, she expanded her bit and then she was regularly doing after | :13:01. | :13:06.
20 or 30 miles a day. As she did that, her leg condition improved | :13:07. | :13:12.
dramatically. Penny also has lymphoedema, again after cancer | :13:13. | :13:17.
treatment. She also says she can manage your condition with | :13:18. | :13:18.
compression stockings and keeping fit. By having good muscle tone, the | :13:19. | :13:24.
tissues are sandwiched between good muscles in my calves and the | :13:25. | :13:31.
compression stopping outside, therefore it reinforces the movement | :13:32. | :13:34.
of fluid up the leg. So finally, I can make sure I have got I am having | :13:35. | :13:40.
a good day, I can see my ankle bones. If I have a bad day, I know I | :13:41. | :13:45.
had had to exercise more, or that night I need to put my feet up. But | :13:46. | :13:55.
these are cyclists will not be putting theirs. Sandra's bicycle | :13:56. | :13:58.
will also travel the entire route while the novice riders will join | :13:59. | :14:02.
them. Jerry says it is about helping them discover exercise as well. | :14:03. | :14:06.
People who have never been cycling have become inspired to start, and | :14:07. | :14:10.
it is quite extraordinary how it is changing their lives. If you manage | :14:11. | :14:16.
your lymphoedema this way, but also people who do not have it, it has | :14:17. | :14:17.
been a life changing experience. What an incredible reaction, and | :14:18. | :14:23.
good luck! Time for the sport now. We start with the loss of one | :14:24. | :14:27.
of our leading football clubs. Women's Super League side | :14:28. | :14:30.
Notts County Ladies have folded just two days before the start | :14:31. | :14:32.
of their season. It leaves a squad including | :14:33. | :14:34.
four England internationals without jobs and, | :14:35. | :14:36.
in some cases, without homes. In a moment, we'll be talking | :14:37. | :14:40.
to Notts County owner and chairman Alan Hardy about why he's | :14:41. | :14:43.
shut down the Ladypies. But first, I've been talking | :14:44. | :14:45.
to England international goalkeeper Carly Telford about the end | :14:46. | :14:47.
of the club. It is heartbreaking, seeing your | :14:48. | :14:58.
mates and people you know you might not see again, you have lived with | :14:59. | :15:04.
for two or three years, it is depressing. That heartbreak was | :15:05. | :15:07.
visible. This morning as the players left Meadow Lane for the last time. | :15:08. | :15:12.
Simply put, the ladies had huge debts and were spending more than | :15:13. | :15:17.
they were bringing in. Amelie side's bosses are outweighed by the | :15:18. | :15:21.
marketing spin off but Alan Hardy said he could not take nearly ?1 | :15:22. | :15:27.
million of hit this season. He did not see it as a feasible business, | :15:28. | :15:33.
but he has probably looked at the numbers and come to the conclusion | :15:34. | :15:38.
that he doesn't want to do it any more. It is pretty heartbreaking. So | :15:39. | :15:43.
we are all left in a boat that is sinking. This was a club that went | :15:44. | :15:48.
to an FA Cup final less than two years ago. Some players were so | :15:49. | :15:52.
angry, they found it safer not to speak today but I was able to ask | :15:53. | :15:56.
Carly Telford what her message was to Alan Hardy. People with no home, | :15:57. | :16:05.
stuff like that, I really would not want to see it again. There is | :16:06. | :16:08.
probably people on the team that would have a lot to seemed to him -- | :16:09. | :16:15.
a lot to say to him. You can only talks much -- talks at online. Alan | :16:16. | :16:23.
Hardy has joined us to talk about this. | :16:24. | :16:25.
The first thing I want to pick up on is the timing, the suggestion you | :16:26. | :16:30.
should have sorted the sooner everyone. I did my best. I have left | :16:31. | :16:38.
no stone unturned in trying to rescue the team. As late as Tuesday | :16:39. | :16:44.
night, Wednesday morning, we're still making urgent phone calls and | :16:45. | :16:49.
trying to raise funds, trying to get support for our organisation, to try | :16:50. | :16:52.
and save the club. But at the end of the day, new south -- you have to | :16:53. | :16:58.
say enough is enough. Why did you have to do this? There is a legacy | :16:59. | :17:03.
debt that I inherited of around ?350,000 and the ongoing costs are | :17:04. | :17:12.
?500,000 a year. We have had meetings on Mr Wheatley business, | :17:13. | :17:15.
disabled have to drive costs down and if we can get them down to | :17:16. | :17:19.
?200,000 a year lost they will support it. But it was just not | :17:20. | :17:24.
viable. So how do teams like Manchester City or Arsenal make | :17:25. | :17:29.
these things work? They are earning tens of millions of pounds, so for | :17:30. | :17:35.
them to put ?1 million into the ladies club, they can do it. My | :17:36. | :17:43.
whole pledge is about the community. I am devastated, gutted that we are | :17:44. | :17:46.
having to say goodbye to the Ladypies. But I cannot afford it. | :17:47. | :17:50.
Can you offer them any support or comfort? They may not feel it, but | :17:51. | :18:00.
Jason Turner has been having ongoing conversations with the FA on a daily | :18:01. | :18:04.
basis. No lady player will be evicted from their house. If that | :18:05. | :18:08.
takes a few months, I will personally stand by their houses so | :18:09. | :18:18.
there will be nobody evicted. Already some players have gone to | :18:19. | :18:19.
other clubs. Now, just one question | :18:20. | :18:20.
for Forest fans. Can they avoid | :18:21. | :18:22.
relegation this season? Just look at the table, three games | :18:23. | :18:24.
to go, they are just one point clear So for the supporters, | :18:25. | :18:29.
it will be a nail-biting High hopes at the start of this | :18:30. | :18:32.
season - how did it end like this? Three games left, and relegation | :18:33. | :18:42.
a very real possibility. Keep being told that the team's | :18:43. | :18:46.
too good to be relegated. Some very good teams have gone down, | :18:47. | :18:49.
we have to make sure we do everything in our power | :18:50. | :18:55.
to show the quality that we possess in the | :18:56. | :18:59.
changing room, to give It's a three-game season | :19:00. | :19:01.
now, simple as that. Frustration for the fans - | :19:02. | :19:04.
new manager, new players and talk of a new owner all so far failing | :19:05. | :19:07.
to find the formula for success No player, no staff member | :19:08. | :19:10.
wants it on their CV. This is a tremendous club, | :19:11. | :19:15.
with a lot of very What we have to do is try and keep | :19:16. | :19:18.
the club and maintain status and build from there, | :19:19. | :19:25.
there's no doubt about the damage it Players, too, facing the prospect | :19:26. | :19:28.
of life in League 1 next season. It's a massive challenge, | :19:29. | :19:32.
because the teams on our heels and the teams around us | :19:33. | :19:34.
will all be fighting us. Hopefully, we will show | :19:35. | :19:37.
that we wanted more than them As for the Forest fans, | :19:38. | :19:39.
just one important question, They've got enough quality | :19:40. | :19:43.
in the team to survive this season. They just haven't been | :19:44. | :19:52.
good enough all season. It's going to be hard, | :19:53. | :19:57.
but to be honest with you, it might just be because there's | :19:58. | :20:01.
three worse teams. With the likes of Ben Brereton | :20:02. | :20:03.
upfront and Britt Assombalonga, I'm sure they can pull | :20:04. | :20:05.
it back, absolutely. So, Forest face Reading | :20:06. | :20:08.
here at the City Ground tomorrow, the first of three must win games | :20:09. | :20:14.
that will make or break the season. Angela Rafferty, | :20:15. | :20:18.
BBC East Midlands Today. In other football, Derby County | :20:19. | :20:23.
goalkeeper Scott Carson admitted today their season had | :20:24. | :20:25.
been a disaster. The Rams, who can't make | :20:26. | :20:28.
the play-offs, now have nothing to play and go | :20:29. | :20:31.
to Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow. Meanwhile in League two, | :20:32. | :20:33.
these are the fixtures. Mansfield Town are still | :20:34. | :20:35.
in that play-off hunt. In cricket, it was Nottinghamshire's | :20:36. | :20:41.
first home game of the season And the day has belonged | :20:42. | :20:43.
to Riki Wessels. Coming in with Notts | :20:44. | :20:46.
in a little trouble, he's battered the Sussex | :20:47. | :20:48.
bowlers, racing to 188 And at Grace Road, Leicestershire | :20:49. | :20:50.
are ticking along nicely too. And we started with some bad | :20:51. | :20:55.
sporting news, so let's end Nottingham gymast Ellie Downie has | :20:56. | :20:58.
gone into the history books by winning the European | :20:59. | :21:02.
All Around title. She's the first British gymnast ever | :21:03. | :21:06.
to win All Around gold And she did it in real style, | :21:07. | :21:09.
crushing the opposition to produce We don't think this will be | :21:10. | :21:14.
the greatest moment in her career. Absolutely extraordinary stuff, she | :21:15. | :21:36.
just keeps going. Thanks, Colin. | :21:37. | :21:37.
From Byron to TS Eliot, poetry has long been | :21:38. | :21:39.
Sometimes provocative, sometimes more genteel. | :21:40. | :21:44.
But is it now undergoing a truly radical transformation? | :21:45. | :21:48.
Over the last few years, there has been an explosion of young | :21:49. | :21:51.
As Nottingham's poetry festival kicks off, | :21:52. | :21:57.
Geeta Pendse's been meeting some of the new stand-up poets. | :21:58. | :22:06.
My smile winks, mischievous, when you've got me... | :22:07. | :22:10.
An Ode to Rio Red Lipstick, a playful poem written by Georgina. | :22:11. | :22:14.
The 25-year-old set up her own poetry press | :22:15. | :22:17.
in response to a thriving scene within Nottingham. | :22:18. | :22:20.
She says the shift towards performance poetry | :22:21. | :22:22.
I think people are much likely to go, | :22:23. | :22:26.
I'm going to go and see what it's about." | :22:27. | :22:30.
Then potentially say, "Oh, shall I buy a poetry book today?" | :22:31. | :22:34.
So, with the performance and the character, you get to see | :22:35. | :22:37.
I'm a natural born leader with the skills of a poet, | :22:38. | :22:44.
you can feel that it's real cos you know it... | :22:45. | :22:46.
In recent years, there have been some high profile poets, | :22:47. | :22:48.
including George the Poet and Kate Tempest, | :22:49. | :22:50.
I hesitated a moment, then braced myself. | :22:51. | :22:56.
But it's not just younger artists who are drawn to the form. | :22:57. | :23:01.
Henry Normal is the man behind hit shows like The Royle Family. | :23:02. | :23:05.
Born in Nottingham, he wrote his first poem | :23:06. | :23:07.
in the Central Library as a teenager. | :23:08. | :23:09.
He has returned to the city as part of the Nottingham Poetry Festival. | :23:10. | :23:13.
Each poet brings a world, and you like some worlds | :23:14. | :23:16.
and you won't like other worlds, and it's finding | :23:17. | :23:19.
At the Poetry Festival, here in Nottingham, | :23:20. | :23:23.
we've got over 100 poets, so I'm sure there is | :23:24. | :23:26.
So, which poems and poets still prove popular? | :23:27. | :23:31.
Got to be the daffodils one, hasn't it? | :23:32. | :23:34.
I had the German measles, I had them very bad. | :23:35. | :23:37.
BOTH: They wrapped me up in blankets and put me in a van. | :23:38. | :23:42.
They see the beauty of everyday life. | :23:43. | :23:45.
The festival will last for ten days, a celebration of both | :23:46. | :23:51.
We were trying to make up a poem! Good evening. A fairly cool period | :23:52. | :24:22.
on the way as we move into next week. More wintry, maybe even some | :24:23. | :24:28.
snow. But first, today was fairly cloudy. You can see on the | :24:29. | :24:32.
satellite, much of the East Midlands Today in cloudy for all day. Some | :24:33. | :24:36.
bright intervals creeping in this evening. Looking at the charts this | :24:37. | :24:43.
weekend, there is a cold front sinking South overnight, but | :24:44. | :24:46.
high-pressure largely in charge so we will not see too much in the way | :24:47. | :24:50.
of rain. That doesn't mean it will be totally dry. As we move through | :24:51. | :24:54.
this evening and overnight, we will see cloud thickening as the cold | :24:55. | :24:58.
front sinks southwards, bringing patchy outbreaks of light rain. But | :24:59. | :25:03.
temperatures not falling too far, overnight lows of seven or eight | :25:04. | :25:09.
Celsius. I cloudy start tomorrow, 12 spits and spots of rain, we will see | :25:10. | :25:13.
some bright intervals developing, the odd sunny spell as we move into | :25:14. | :25:18.
the afternoon. Temperatures not too bad, slightly cooler than today, | :25:19. | :25:24.
highs of 13 Celsius with a light breeze. Sunday, he cool start, we | :25:25. | :25:29.
could see a touch of frost in the countryside first thing. Then the | :25:30. | :25:33.
largely settled day, mainly dry, relic Lodi bright intervals and | :25:34. | :25:39.
sunny spells developing. But it is as we move into next week that we | :25:40. | :25:43.
start to see the shift to something cooler. The cold front sinks | :25:44. | :25:47.
southwards of Monday. Some outbreaks of rain but it starts to drag in | :25:48. | :25:51.
cooler air from the Arctic. By the time we get to Tuesday, highs of | :25:52. | :25:56.
around nine Celsius. We could see some showers with some snow and | :25:57. | :25:59.
sleet mixed in, some showers with some snow and | :26:00. | :26:00.
sleet mixed in, a definite wintry current by midweek. | :26:01. | :26:08.
Snow and sleet! We will need to stay inside from Sunday because Sunday | :26:09. | :26:10.
Politics East Midlands will have all the latest on the general election. | :26:11. | :26:18.
Murray Ashby will be asking which seats could change hands. | :26:19. | :26:25.
And I will be here with your updates over the weekend. | :26:26. | :26:30.
And Lucy and I will be back at 10:20 five. -- 10.2 five. | :26:31. | :26:55.
Why didn't we go to the library today? | :26:56. | :27:01.
Because we don't have a library any more. Why? | :27:02. | :27:04.
The school's had to make big cuts. Cuts like with a knife, miss? | :27:05. | :27:10.
No, it means that the school can't afford to pay for things like | :27:11. | :27:14.
the library any more or shows or books or school visits. | :27:15. | :27:19.
CHILDREN: Awww! No more school visits? | :27:20. | :27:25. |
