And now the news for the East Midlands, I'm Anne Davies. | :00:13. | :00:15.
First tonight, an inquest h`s heard how the wrong drug given | :00:16. | :00:18.
to the wrong care home resident led to the death | :00:19. | :00:20.
The blunder happened just hours after she'd moved into | :00:21. | :00:29.
Cedar Court nursing home in Wigston in Leicestershird. | :00:30. | :00:32.
Here's our Health Correspondent, Rob Sissons. | :00:33. | :00:44.
At the inquest today we heard Patricia Rosen had gone into the | :00:45. | :00:49.
nursing home just before shd died. She was given a painkiller that was | :00:50. | :00:56.
meant for another Patricia. It was around 16 times the usual dose you | :00:57. | :00:59.
would give to someone starthng out on the medication. | :01:00. | :01:00.
Patricia Rosen's first night at this nursing home back in February | :01:01. | :01:03.
She should never have been given the painkiller. | :01:04. | :01:13.
Her family arrived at today's inquest to hear | :01:14. | :01:14.
There have been concerns that the home raised | :01:15. | :01:19.
about staffing levels during the night time. | :01:20. | :01:22.
The former deputy manager s`id she stayed late to | :01:23. | :01:26.
brief a new agency care nurse, who gave the fatal dose, | :01:27. | :01:34.
about the system for administering the drugs there. | :01:35. | :01:36.
She says with hindsight, she should have stayed even longer. | :01:37. | :01:40.
The drugs round was already running four hours late | :01:41. | :01:44.
and it was after midnight when she left, | :01:45. | :01:46.
because she was on duty the next morning. | :01:47. | :01:49.
Patricia's family left with two more days of evidence | :01:50. | :01:52.
to hear, which they hope will shed more light on what went so | :01:53. | :01:55.
Next tonight a judge, sentencing Dominic Halliday,Fox | :01:56. | :02:01.
for 23 years, warns of the dangers young men face | :02:02. | :02:04.
17-year-old Dante Francis was stabbed in the heart | :02:05. | :02:07.
It was outside the Empire Bar in Derbyshire | :02:08. | :02:15.
in the early hours of the | :02:16. | :02:17.
Here, Dante Francis from Lehcester was stabbed by Dominic | :02:18. | :02:23.
The court heard they did not know each other. | :02:24. | :02:28.
Dante Francis did punch Dominic Halliday-Fox, | :02:29. | :02:30.
as the jury saw on CCTV. | :02:31. | :02:33.
They then saw Dominic Halliday-Fox drawing a knife and | :02:34. | :02:35.
Dominic Halliday-Fox claims he thought Dante | :02:36. | :02:39.
Francis had a knife and onlx carried his for protection. | :02:40. | :02:42.
But today, the jury decided it was murder. | :02:43. | :02:46.
Diana Francis, Dante Francis's mother, said | :02:47. | :02:54.
his girlfriend is pregnant `nd described how devastating it is for | :02:55. | :02:56.
She actually travelled in the ambulance with her son and | :02:57. | :03:00.
while he was still awake, and they held hands | :03:01. | :03:02.
Operations are running in relation to knife | :03:03. | :03:12.
crime and there's power in | :03:13. | :03:13.
the importance of emphasising to youngsters the | :03:14. | :03:15.
The judge said to Dominic Halliday-Fox, as long as | :03:16. | :03:23.
young men like you are carrxing knives, more young lives will be | :03:24. | :03:26.
He sentenced him to a minimtm of 23 years in prison before he c`n be | :03:27. | :03:34.
A family is urging holiday travellers to check their insurance | :03:35. | :03:46.
after a 39-year-old mother suffered a brain haemorrage. | :03:47. | :03:47.
Katy Head is now expected to spend months in intensive care in Athens, | :03:48. | :03:53.
and although she's insured, her husband is now relying | :03:54. | :03:55.
on internet donations to stay in Greece. | :03:56. | :04:00.
On the Greek island of Kos, it was meant to be the holiday of a | :04:01. | :04:06.
lifetime for members of the Head family from Derby, to celebrate | :04:07. | :04:09.
Craig, Katie and younger son, Leighton, were enjoying | :04:10. | :04:17.
this boat trip ten days ago when seconds after this picture was | :04:18. | :04:20.
taken, Craig realised something was seriously wrong with Katie. | :04:21. | :04:22.
By the time I'd reached her, her face was | :04:23. | :04:24.
down in the water and I grabbed her by her life vest, pulled | :04:25. | :04:28.
Katie had actually suffered an aneurysm, | :04:29. | :04:31.
a burst blood vessel in | :04:32. | :04:32.
She was taken by ambulance to Kos hospital and was airlifted | :04:33. | :04:36.
to a neurological hospital hn Athens where Craig and Leighton evdntually | :04:37. | :04:39.
Back in Derby, Craig's mum says insurance that Katie and son | :04:40. | :04:44.
Leighton had covered it, but Craig had separate insurance. | :04:45. | :04:48.
Now the firm Katie's using says it has paid all the | :04:49. | :04:50.
maximum extra cash for Craig to stay in Athens. | :04:51. | :04:53.
The family now say they wish they'd checked the details on | :04:54. | :04:55.
Check how much cover you will have and how long xou | :04:56. | :05:05.
can stop out there for, because it's not just the p`tient. | :05:06. | :05:09.
Katie has got millions of pounds worth of medical | :05:10. | :05:11.
insurance, but it's the othdr part that costs you, that you nedd to | :05:12. | :05:14.
Craig's now relying on Internet donations to stay in | :05:15. | :05:37.
Greece, while Sharon's had to spend ?1000 of her own money | :05:38. | :05:39.
For most of his working lifd, Arran Linton-Smith from Nottingham | :05:40. | :05:48.
It was only when he was diagnosed with autism, that his workplace | :05:49. | :05:53.
His story is part of a new campaign by the National Autistic Society | :05:54. | :06:00.
Arran Linton-Smith from Nottingham has had a wide range of jobs. | :06:01. | :06:10.
He struggled with some and was asked to | :06:11. | :06:12.
Four years ago, problems at work became clear when | :06:13. | :06:16.
at the age of 56, he was diagnosed with autism. | :06:17. | :06:19.
There's a huge stigma attached to autism. | :06:20. | :06:21.
A lot of autistic people are frightened of entering | :06:22. | :06:24.
A lot of workplaces are frightened of employing someone | :06:25. | :06:29.
who is different, because they often feel threatened as a result of that. | :06:30. | :06:39.
He's a senior consultant at one of the world's biggest support and | :06:40. | :06:44.
He wants to help more employees understand the | :06:45. | :06:51.
benefits that autistic people bring to the workplace. | :06:52. | :06:56.
I'm frequently speaking up `nd I did write | :06:57. | :06:58.
solutions to problems away before the rest of the design team actually | :06:59. | :07:01.
But Arran is a rarity within a minority. | :07:02. | :07:06.
A survey by the National Autistic Society found that | :07:07. | :07:08.
many autistic people are struggling to find jobs. | :07:09. | :07:10.
32% had either full-time or part-time jobs, that compares | :07:11. | :07:14.
40% of autistic people had never worked. | :07:15. | :07:21.
Arran Linton-Smith's now part of the new autism and emploxment | :07:22. | :07:23.
campaign by the National Autistic Society. | :07:24. | :07:28.
This afternoon, he's been up Parliament sharing his work | :07:29. | :07:30.
Fortunately, I work for a l`rge organisation and I'm | :07:31. | :07:35.
In that position, I can influence change with confidence. | :07:36. | :07:39.
And that's what I've done, H've been open about my autism. | :07:40. | :07:44.
In my role, I feel very strongly about leaving the | :07:45. | :07:47.
door open for the next generation of autistic | :07:48. | :07:49.
Earlier, I spoke to Sarah L`mbert, Head of Policy at the National | :07:50. | :08:01.
Autistic Society, and began by asking her what sort | :08:02. | :08:03.
of help autistic people need in the workplace. | :08:04. | :08:08.
So this would be things like support in terms | :08:09. | :08:11.
of social interaction and | :08:12. | :08:12.
But also, within the workpl`ce, they may need to be | :08:13. | :08:16.
adjustments to make sure the environment is autism friendly, | :08:17. | :08:18.
because lots of autistic people have problems with bright lights or loud | :08:19. | :08:21.
noises, so it can be just about making | :08:22. | :08:23.
simple adjustments in the workplace | :08:24. | :08:24.
so that people can concentrate and get on with their | :08:25. | :08:26.
So presumably that's really about employers and | :08:27. | :08:32.
people in the workplace being more aware and be more accepting? | :08:33. | :08:35.
So with the campaign we just launched we did also launch a | :08:36. | :08:50.
short film, showing some of the difficulties that autistic | :08:51. | :08:52.
people can find to the interview process | :08:53. | :08:54.
which looks at communication difficulties they might expdrience | :08:55. | :08:56.
and also some of the sensorx things I just talked about in terms of | :08:57. | :08:59.
lighting and noise and you can see that short film about autisl at | :09:00. | :09:03.
So, it's goodbye from me, but with your weather | :09:04. | :09:07.
It has been a fine start and there was fog this morning, but wd have | :09:08. | :09:21.
seen the return of autumn stnshine. It has been mild. Temperature of 17 | :09:22. | :09:26.
degrees. It is usually around 1 degrees this time of year. But it | :09:27. | :09:32.
turns colder this week. A cold front going south tomorrow. A bit of rain | :09:33. | :09:38.
and some cooler and fresh ahr. You will notice the difference. The | :09:39. | :09:44.
first frosts will be seen, too. Dry and sunny until Friday when it turns | :09:45. | :09:52.
more unsettled. One more night with moist and mild air and fog hs now | :09:53. | :09:56.
forming which will be with ts for the rest of the night. Quitd dense | :09:57. | :10:01.
and tricky driving conditions. But it is dry and mild, temperatures of | :10:02. | :10:07.
9-10d. A murky start tomorrow. The fog clears and there will bd a bit | :10:08. | :10:15.
of rain. It will move away `nd then we will see sunshine across northern | :10:16. | :10:20.
parts by the end of the day. You will notice the difference, 9-1 d | :10:21. | :10:24.
top temperature. That will take those into a cold and frostx start | :10:25. | :10:30.
on Wednesday, but that will be compensated with sunshine, | :10:31. | :10:31.
beautiful, hazy sunshine on Wednesday. Still on the chilly side, | :10:32. | :10:39.
temperatures 9-10d on Wednesday Similar on Thursday, a colddr and | :10:40. | :10:43.
frosty start, but plenty of sunshine. Temperatures struggling at | :10:44. | :10:47.
9-10d again, a bit of cloud pushing in by the end of the day. Changes | :10:48. | :10:53.
for the end of the week. A weather front sinking south which whll give | :10:54. | :10:56.
us more showery conditions for the end of the week. Eight few showers, | :10:57. | :11:01.
sunshine and still feeling chilly. Here | :11:02. | :11:03.
side. Strong northerly winds, some sunshine and also some rain for the | :11:04. | :11:07.
weekend. The National weather coming up now with Louise. Halloween 2 16 | :11:08. | :11:15.
has almost come and gone but it has left some spookily interesting | :11:16. | :11:19.
statistics. It has been a third consecutive mild Halloween. The | :11:20. | :11:24.
warmest was in 2014, 20 four Celsius. Today we have been breaking | :11:25. | :11:30.
records in Wales, the warmest Halloween, 22 Celsius. A glorious | :11:31. | :11:36.
shot, fairly indicative of what we had in Wales today, sent in by | :11:37. | :11:40.
weather watcher earlier. A different story further north and east. The | :11:41. | :11:43.
cloud made it great and in the Northern Isles temperatures didn't | :11:44. | :11:49.
climb above nine Celsius. It is as cold air set to descend south | :11:50. | :11:54.
through the course of the night tonight and brings a marked contrast | :11:55. | :11:55.
for | :11:56. | :11:57. |
