And now the news for the East Midlands. | :00:13. | :00:14.
Illegal hare coursing is a growing menace across the East Midlands, | :00:15. | :00:18.
according to our police forces, who tell us combating | :00:19. | :00:20.
But some landowners say they're having to take the law | :00:21. | :00:26.
into their own hands, and claim criminal gangs | :00:27. | :00:29.
are increasingly aggressive and intimidating when challenged. | :00:30. | :00:31.
Paul Murphy's report contains images some may find upsetting. | :00:32. | :00:37.
Chasing and killing hares with dogs has been banned | :00:38. | :00:39.
But you wouldn't know it from looking at social media. | :00:40. | :00:47.
It's awash with footage of those who continue to break the law. | :00:48. | :00:52.
What's changing, though, is the level of violence | :00:53. | :00:57.
hare coursers meat out to those who try to stop them. | :00:58. | :01:00.
They came at me because my vehicle was blocking their exit | :01:01. | :01:03.
and immediately started to throw rocks at me with me in the vehicle. | :01:04. | :01:09.
And hammered the side of my vehicle so they could get passed and escape. | :01:10. | :01:14.
These coursers escaped leaving their vehicle behind. | :01:15. | :01:16.
They came back later to set it alight, possibly to destroy any | :01:17. | :01:19.
These actions are creating fear in this community. | :01:20. | :01:27.
This woman would only talk if we didn't show her face. | :01:28. | :01:31.
They have become aggressive, nasty, uncontrollable... | :01:32. | :01:35.
There are people who are afraid to leave their own home. | :01:36. | :01:41.
We know as a police service we've got to up our game and make best | :01:42. | :01:45.
But the farming community needs to work with us, | :01:46. | :01:49.
it needs to keep itself safe, and it needs to assist proactively | :01:50. | :01:53.
This farmer says he's done with relying on the police. | :01:54. | :02:01.
He's making police style stingers to puncture the tyres | :02:02. | :02:04.
Other landowners are using drones to monitor their fields. | :02:05. | :02:10.
This farmer could only watch as two cars drive | :02:11. | :02:13.
Fields across this area show signs of car damage. | :02:14. | :02:20.
They'd kill us if they could, I think. | :02:21. | :02:22.
What we'd like to do is help the police catch the culprits | :02:23. | :02:31.
but the police seem very reluctant to talk to us and to work with us. | :02:32. | :02:38.
It was in this same community that Lincolnshire Police | :02:39. | :02:40.
launched its anti hare coursing strategy last September. | :02:41. | :02:45.
But the hare coursers, like the ones seen here speeding | :02:46. | :02:47.
through a farm shop car park, are continuing to blight local life. | :02:48. | :02:57.
Health bosses in Nottinghamshire say a number of key services could be | :02:58. | :03:00.
moved from hospitals into the community to reduce costs | :03:01. | :03:02.
Stroke rehabilitation will definitely be moved, | :03:03. | :03:07.
while brain injury and pain management are under consideration, | :03:08. | :03:11.
24-year-old Heather Peacock lost control of her car 18 months ago | :03:12. | :03:17.
She suffered a severe brain injury and was in a coma for eight weeks. | :03:18. | :03:23.
She's been receiving outpatient therapy at the city | :03:24. | :03:25.
hospital for a year and has made considerable progress. | :03:26. | :03:28.
She's convinced services will suffer if they are transferred | :03:29. | :03:31.
I don't think the facilities will be as good if they are transferred | :03:32. | :03:37.
to the homing environment because the facilities are so much | :03:38. | :03:40.
They've got a gym, treadmills, stuff like that. | :03:41. | :03:46.
They are willing to help you and support you through your recovery. | :03:47. | :03:52.
The Nottingham North and East Clinical Commissioning Group has | :03:53. | :03:55.
identified seven services currently delivered by Nottingham University | :03:56. | :03:58.
hospitals which it wants to transferred to reduce costs. | :03:59. | :04:02.
These services include ongoing therapy for those | :04:03. | :04:05.
with brain injuries, neurology assessments, | :04:06. | :04:11.
pain management, and home visiting for those with | :04:12. | :04:17.
Research has moved on and there are better ways to do things. | :04:18. | :04:20.
An example would be stroke care where patients, | :04:21. | :04:22.
if they are cared for at home, have better outcomes. | :04:23. | :04:25.
The engagement we've done that patients are told us | :04:26. | :04:27.
that they would prefer services to be delivered at home. | :04:28. | :04:29.
Consultation has been extended into early next month but an online | :04:30. | :04:32.
petition started by Heather's family one week ago opposing the plans | :04:33. | :04:35.
has already attracted almost 700 signatures. | :04:36. | :04:36.
After 16 weeks of physio after you've been discharged, | :04:37. | :04:40.
they'll let you go, and that's not really fair because at 16 weeks | :04:41. | :04:43.
The most important thing for us is that patients receive the best | :04:44. | :04:50.
And where that needs more than 16 weeks then, of course, | :04:51. | :04:55.
A leaked memo indicates the CCG is ultimately | :04:56. | :04:59.
considering transferring a total of 13 services. | :05:00. | :05:03.
Heather intends to return to university in September to write | :05:04. | :05:07.
Leicester's Haymarket Theatre could re-open by the end of the year. | :05:08. | :05:17.
It'll return with a mix of music and drama, but the big box office | :05:18. | :05:20.
draw will be e-sports, where audiences watch professionals | :05:21. | :05:23.
The consortium behind the venue's re-development says that | :05:24. | :05:27.
multi-player video game tournaments now make more money | :05:28. | :05:31.
Presently, there's millions of people watching online and as it has | :05:32. | :05:45.
developed, like we said about football, normal people want to, and | :05:46. | :05:50.
see the event, not just watch it online. The consortium are offering | :05:51. | :05:54.
something that will add to and very much complement the very exciting | :05:55. | :05:58.
artistic and cultural scene we've got in Leicester. | :05:59. | :06:01.
Finally, to a 12-year-old facing retirement! | :06:02. | :06:02.
After nine years working as a Mountain Rescue dog | :06:03. | :06:04.
in Derbyshire, Megan is becoming a family pet. | :06:05. | :06:06.
She received a commendation for discovering the body | :06:07. | :06:08.
of Jar Ashton six years ago, and saved the lives | :06:09. | :06:11.
Very soon after she qualified, we were involved in a search, | :06:12. | :06:14.
in horrendous winter conditions, white out conditions. | :06:15. | :06:17.
Megan worked relentlessly through that winter storm | :06:18. | :06:20.
and found three walkers, cold but alive. | :06:21. | :06:22.
We managed to evacuate them off the hill very quickly. | :06:23. | :06:27.
I'm here with your updates across the weekend, but let's | :06:28. | :06:29.
Not too bad as we go through this weekend. Some usable weather on the | :06:30. | :06:41.
way with this little area of high pressure starting to build up, still | :06:42. | :06:45.
some fronts and there so we might see some showers at times. As we | :06:46. | :06:49.
have a look at the weather for this evening, we've still got the showers | :06:50. | :06:53.
around in places but they are moving away slowly. We also have some who | :06:54. | :07:00.
fog in places, some mist overnight with loads of three overnight. | :07:01. | :07:05.
Through the day tomorrow, quite a grey day, quite overcast with mist | :07:06. | :07:10.
patches with the old spit and spot of rain here and there but not a bad | :07:11. | :07:14.
day overall with some brightness further north with highs of nine. | :07:15. | :07:20.
Then, as we look ahead to Sunday, more of the same. Some spit sunspots | :07:21. | :07:23.
here and there but predominantly a dry Dave with highs of seven. I'll | :07:24. | :07:28.
leave you with the outlook. That is it from the late team. Have a very | :07:29. | :07:37.
Good evening. The weather has been turning milder and also cloudier | :07:38. | :07:43.
through the course of the day. We did see some clear spells moving in | :07:44. | :07:46.
from the North will stop this was the sunset, captured in Dundee. Some | :07:47. | :07:52.
clear spells as we headed through the course of the afternoon into the | :07:53. | :07:55.
evening. Really, through the weekend, wiki with a similar theme. | :07:56. | :07:59.
Much milder than it has been. A lot of cloud around in general, but for | :08:00. | :08:04.
most of us think. Dry. Not dry everywhere at the moment, | :08:05. | :08:06.
particularly across central and southern parts of England and Wales. | :08:07. | :08:10.
We have a lot of cloud, bringing outbreaks of light rain and drizzle. | :08:11. | :08:14.
The patchy rain will ease away slowly towards the south through | :08:15. | :08:17.
tonight and further north across the country, drier conditions. Wherever | :08:18. | :08:22.
you are, it's pretty cloudy. Mostly frost free to start the weekend, but | :08:23. | :08:29.
there could be frost across the central glens of Scotland. A chilly | :08:30. | :08:30. |
