And now the news for the East Midlands, I'm Anne Davies.

:00:11.:00:15.

Families whose homes were damaged by a dramatic water pipe explosion

:00:16.:00:18.

in Derby yesterday have been warned it could be months before

:00:19.:00:20.

And a road in Chester Green, ripped up by the blast, will also be

:00:21.:00:28.

2am yesterday and a huge fountain of water and rubble explodes.

:00:29.:00:40.

It flooded and damaged nearby homes in Mansfield Road.

:00:41.:00:43.

Most people have not been able to return them properly,

:00:44.:00:46.

She will be overseeing repairs, but will have to rent elsewhere.

:00:47.:00:56.

There are thousands of tonnes of water literally

:00:57.:00:58.

Every room is gone, furniture ruined, everything.

:00:59.:01:12.

The water surged into the reception area of a local church.

:01:13.:01:22.

This line shows how much water came in here.

:01:23.:01:25.

When I got down here, I was amazed to see the amount

:01:26.:01:28.

of water that was flooding around, all of the debris on the road

:01:29.:01:31.

and around, in some ways, it looked a bit like a war zone

:01:32.:01:36.

Severn Trent Water plan to permanently fix

:01:37.:01:44.

the pipe rather than temporarily repairing it.

:01:45.:01:56.

It could be a long time before life returns to normal

:01:57.:01:59.

Bob Stear is from Severn Trent - a little earlier, I asked him

:02:00.:02:03.

if they were any closer to figuring out what caused the burst...

:02:04.:02:11.

Firstly, I continue to apologise to the residents. It has been a

:02:12.:02:23.

traumatic event. Our focus has been to keep customers safe, to restore

:02:24.:02:28.

the supplies which we have done to the 7500 customers and behind me, we

:02:29.:02:33.

are starting to fix the main which we are halfway through. This is a

:02:34.:02:39.

dramatic water burst, we seem to have a lot of them in this region,

:02:40.:02:48.

what does it say about the system? Well, we have 46,000 kilometres of

:02:49.:02:52.

water pipes and of different conditions, we do a lot of modelling

:02:53.:02:56.

work to keep on top of the maintenance but the next few days,

:02:57.:03:01.

we will look at this area because we have had two bursts in the last few

:03:02.:03:05.

years. Can you tell when something like

:03:06.:03:08.

this will happen because it was like an explosion?

:03:09.:03:14.

If we have known, we would not have allowed it to happen. These things

:03:15.:03:18.

do go suddenly. We have to monitor the network and there was no

:03:19.:03:22.

indication. If this happens now, how likely

:03:23.:03:26.

could it happen again? As I say, in a typical area we do

:03:27.:03:33.

not get these very often, we have 8 million customers and only have a

:03:34.:03:38.

few of these incidents a year. When it happens, it causes devastation

:03:39.:03:41.

and that has been a priority, to look after the customers that have

:03:42.:03:46.

had a pretty traumatic time and we have had teams out making sure they

:03:47.:03:50.

are not out of pocket and to re-home people.

:03:51.:03:50.

Many thanks. Next tonight, up to 200

:03:51.:03:53.

people are out of a job following the sudden closure

:03:54.:03:56.

of a national apprenticeship "Positive Outcomes" ran

:03:57.:03:58.

the training courses from its headquarters in South

:03:59.:04:01.

Normanton. But last week it lost

:04:02.:04:04.

a crucial multi-million pound Our Social Affairs Correspondent,

:04:05.:04:07.

Jeremy Ball, reports. Tonight we had confirmation of 170

:04:08.:04:23.

redundancies here, positive outcomes was in the process of restructuring

:04:24.:04:28.

to sell part of the business when the skills funding agency pulled its

:04:29.:04:33.

funding. If you look at the website tonight, you can see it was one of

:04:34.:04:36.

the largest apprenticeship programmes with thousands of

:04:37.:04:40.

placements up-and-downer country in industries from property sales to

:04:41.:04:45.

hospitality to warehouses. The Department of Education says it is

:04:46.:04:49.

talking to employers so the apprenticeships can be transferred

:04:50.:04:55.

so young people training do not get disrupted. We heard from the

:04:56.:04:57.

administrators but have not spoken to anyone today because the officers

:04:58.:05:02.

have been closed on the blinds are down. The business has spoken to a

:05:03.:05:08.

trade publication where it thanks all of the staff who worked here

:05:09.:05:13.

over 20 years or so and it would not be drawn on wider skills funding

:05:14.:05:18.

agency was so concerned about finances. We have heard from a

:05:19.:05:21.

member of staff who said they found out about their job going through an

:05:22.:05:27.

e-mail last Friday and had them positive outcomes will sound like a

:05:28.:05:30.

cool -- cruel irony tonight. 37 drivers have been caught not

:05:31.:05:33.

wearing seat belts during a four day Police officers patrolled

:05:34.:05:36.

the motorway and the A1 It's part of the Fatal four

:05:37.:05:40.

campaign, which targets drink-driving, speeding,

:05:41.:05:47.

not wearing a seat belt and using A young award-winning musician has

:05:48.:05:49.

returned to his roots in Nottingham inspiring more young musicians

:05:50.:05:56.

to follow their dreams. Sheku Kanneh-Mason won the BBC's

:05:57.:06:00.

prestigious Young Musician Over the weekend he performed one

:06:01.:06:03.

more time with the Nottingham Youth Nothing can beat the experience of

:06:04.:06:19.

playing with an orchestra and meeting other young musicians. I was

:06:20.:06:24.

so inspired by the first rehearsal, the sound of the orchestra. And I

:06:25.:06:30.

have learned so much. It is inspiring because he is such a good

:06:31.:06:34.

musician. It is cool to play with him.

:06:35.:06:35.

And finally from me tonight the Leicester City supporter

:06:36.:06:37.

who suffered three heart attacks after collapsing during last week's

:06:38.:06:39.

game against Sevilla has today been able to thank the off-duty

:06:40.:06:42.

firefighter who helped save his life.

:06:43.:06:45.

An emotional reunion with the firefighter who helped

:06:46.:06:57.

to save his life after Jim Blockley became ill during the match.

:06:58.:07:03.

I went to a steward and told him I was fine.

:07:04.:07:07.

I walked along with him and we got to the halfway line

:07:08.:07:10.

Kaz Whitener, South Yorkshire firefighter

:07:11.:07:21.

I saw him and he was being held up as soon afterward,

:07:22.:07:32.

a couple of the on site medics came and started to give him CPR,

:07:33.:07:37.

something I've received a lot of training in.

:07:38.:07:42.

I was sat quite close to the end of the aisle

:07:43.:07:45.

so I managed to get quickly there and help him at the front.

:07:46.:07:54.

He died 451 minutes on three separate occasions. They told us to

:07:55.:07:58.

kissing goodbye at A If it wasn't for her,

:07:59.:08:02.

I wouldn't be here. That is what the doctor said. She

:08:03.:08:17.

was brilliant. Not just that he is alive,

:08:18.:08:22.

but that's it is sat up and talking. Leicester City football club's

:08:23.:08:27.

ambassador has been to visit with a signed shirt

:08:28.:08:33.

from all the players. It is fitting that Jim's first words

:08:34.:08:36.

were about the results. I knew I was in hospital, and I laid

:08:37.:08:41.

there and asked what the score was. As for the next Leicester City

:08:42.:08:50.

match, he says he plans to take it So, it's goodbye from me -

:08:51.:08:56.

but with your weather After a mild week last week, things

:08:57.:09:17.

are turning cooler. Temperatures dropping back down into single

:09:18.:09:22.

figures. There will be outbreaks of rain as we move to the week, low

:09:23.:09:27.

pressure so quite unsettled. Things will become more settled towards the

:09:28.:09:31.

end of the week and weekend. And improving picture. This is what was

:09:32.:09:39.

going on today, some cold air from the north-west as we move through

:09:40.:09:42.

the day and the band of rain we saw this morning was on the front edge

:09:43.:09:48.

so as we move tonight -- through tonight, a cold night, some clear

:09:49.:09:52.

spells and scattered showers, the showers could be slightly wintry on

:09:53.:09:58.

high ground forming sleet or snow. An overnight low of two or three

:09:59.:10:03.

Celsius. Some ice on untreated surfaces and a touch of frost. A

:10:04.:10:08.

cold starts tomorrow, brightness around first thing, more cloud in

:10:09.:10:14.

the afternoon, sunny spells and scattered showers which could be

:10:15.:10:17.

wintry on high ground. Temperatures struggling. It will not be feeling

:10:18.:10:26.

particularly pleasant. Wednesday, a dry start further east but a band of

:10:27.:10:31.

rain making its way slowly across as we move through the day. A few heavy

:10:32.:10:39.

bursts and temperatures not to warm, nine Celsius. We will see a breeze

:10:40.:10:46.

easing slightly. Thursday, things become increasingly settled, still

:10:47.:10:51.

cloudy, outbreaks of rain further south, temperatures reaching nine

:10:52.:10:56.

Celsius. Friday, we start to see high pressure taking charge so

:10:57.:10:59.

becoming increasingly settled. I leave you with the outlook.

:11:00.:11:02.

outlook for Saturday and Sunday is for something dry and settled, sunny

:11:03.:11:04.

spells but a bit on the cool side. This week we are starting off with a

:11:05.:11:18.

taste of winter. This is Paul and maritime air, it has come from a

:11:19.:11:21.

long way north and will push in lots of showers. The last of any mild air

:11:22.:11:27.

gets swept away with the cloud. Tonight we have showers mostly

:11:28.:11:28.

across the

:11:29.:11:32.
