And now the news for the East Midlands.

:00:13.:00:14.

A man who admitted attacking his wife,

:00:15.:00:19.

but was spared jail, is behind bars tonight.

:00:20.:00:20.

Mustafa Bashir was given a suspended sentence -

:00:21.:00:22.

after a judge was told he'd been offered a professional contract by

:00:23.:00:24.

But the contract never existed and today that same

:00:25.:00:28.

Mustafa Bashir arrived at court today knowing he had some explaining

:00:29.:00:40.

Last month, he narrowly avoided jail when he admitted

:00:41.:00:43.

attacking his former wife with a cricket bat

:00:44.:00:45.

The judge suspended an 18 month prison sentence partly because

:00:46.:00:52.

he had been told Bashir was about to sign a contract with

:00:53.:00:56.

The club then revealed they had never heard of Bashir,

:00:57.:01:00.

And so, today, the 33-year-old was ordered back before

:01:01.:01:11.

Today, Bashir was represented in court by a new barrister who said

:01:12.:01:15.

his client hadn't intended to mislead anyone and there had been

:01:16.:01:18.

Well, Judge Richard Mansell was having

:01:19.:01:20.

He said there had been no series of misunderstandings and

:01:21.:01:25.

said, I was fundamentally misled by you as to your personal

:01:26.:01:28.

He said he had no hesitation in now imposing an

:01:29.:01:31.

immediate prison term, something which he said he would have done

:01:32.:01:34.

originally, had he been aware of the true position.

:01:35.:01:39.

In a statement, Leicestershire said...

:01:40.:01:50.

Meanwhile, Judge Mansell addressed criticisms

:01:51.:01:51.

made of him over his original sentencing remarks.

:01:52.:01:53.

particularly vulnerable, due to her circumstances.

:01:54.:01:56.

Today, he said he wanted to make it clear, he had

:01:57.:01:58.

always considered her to be vulnerable, but sentencing

:01:59.:02:00.

guidelines set out clearly different levels of vulnerability, which

:02:01.:02:02.

judges have to take into consideration when sentencing.

:02:03.:02:04.

Through the police, Bashir's victim said she was satisfied with

:02:05.:02:07.

Bashir, meantime, may now be investigated for the separate

:02:08.:02:20.

offence of perverting the course of justice.

:02:21.:02:21.

David Guest, BBC East Midlands Today, Manchester.

:02:22.:02:27.

Staff at a benefits office in Nottinghamshire have staged

:02:28.:02:29.

a protest against its planned closure.

:02:30.:02:31.

The Department for Work and Pensions says the building

:02:32.:02:33.

in Annesley is no longer needed, putting around 130 jobs at risk.

:02:34.:02:36.

A consultation on the propals ends at midnight

:02:37.:02:37.

and unions say they'll fight to keep the office open.

:02:38.:02:46.

Well, it's likely that we will have to talk to members about industrial

:02:47.:02:51.

Ultimately, it will be members to make that decision, but

:02:52.:02:54.

we, of course, cannot rule out taking strike action to support this

:02:55.:02:57.

office being kept open and to support this community.

:02:58.:03:00.

11 people have been jailed for a combined total of over 42

:03:01.:03:03.

years for their part in an insurance scam where they deliberately

:03:04.:03:05.

caused dozens of car crashes across Derbyshire.

:03:06.:03:07.

The gang, mostly from the East Midlands,

:03:08.:03:09.

targeted older or lone female drivers and made claims

:03:10.:03:11.

using false identities and through fraudulent companies.

:03:12.:03:13.

The judge said the victims have been harmed emotionally and physically.

:03:14.:03:20.

It was a load of blood, sweat and tears over

:03:21.:03:23.

the three and a half years of the investigation.

:03:24.:03:25.

It was like trying to boot a jigsaw together and identify all

:03:26.:03:29.

the different angles and aspects of the fraud.

:03:30.:03:31.

The sentence provided today by the court will hopefully

:03:32.:03:33.

send out a message that this type of offence will be taken seriously,

:03:34.:03:36.

investigated thoroughly and will not be tolerated.

:03:37.:03:42.

A group of shopkeepers in a conservation area of Leicester

:03:43.:03:45.

are demanding restrictions are eased so they can better protect

:03:46.:03:47.

their properties.Five businesses were either vandalised or burgled

:03:48.:03:49.

It's the fourth time in two years shops have been targetted.

:03:50.:03:53.

The City Council says it will meet owners to discuss their concerns.

:03:54.:04:01.

Together with the other shop owners in this

:04:02.:04:04.

area, we want to protect our property, we want the council, we

:04:05.:04:06.

want the city centre director to listen to us

:04:07.:04:09.

and allow us to protect our property with shutters.

:04:10.:04:11.

Never mind the issue we've got with preservation, what about my

:04:12.:04:13.

Organisers of Leicestershire's Download Festival are spending half

:04:14.:04:26.

a million pounds improving the site after weather and travel

:04:27.:04:28.

Tens of thousands of rock fans were left drenched

:04:29.:04:31.

They also struggled to leave Donington Park

:04:32.:04:34.

Torrential downpours making Download in 2016 the wettest on record.

:04:35.:04:44.

Festivalgoers were forced to trudge through inches of mud and

:04:45.:04:46.

torrents of water surrounding their tents.

:04:47.:04:57.

More than four inches of rain fell across the 650 acre Donington

:04:58.:05:00.

Park site last year in just 45 minutes.

:05:01.:05:02.

And that's enough to fill more than 100 Olympic sized swimming

:05:03.:05:05.

Now, organisers here want to make sure they are ready if the

:05:06.:05:08.

heavy rain again threatens to swamp the heavy metal.

:05:09.:05:11.

They are using this heavy metal to build 3,000 metres of

:05:12.:05:13.

new drains, quadruple what's already here,

:05:14.:05:15.

to help with if what they call Biblical rain comes again.

:05:16.:05:17.

We had 17 million gallons of rain come down in that 45 minutes.

:05:18.:05:20.

That would be a challenge to anybody that wasn't expecting it and we

:05:21.:05:23.

So, we've really put the new drains in and

:05:24.:05:27.

the ditches to drain it all away and tried to respond

:05:28.:05:29.

And another major problem last year, the closure of the nearby M1

:05:30.:05:44.

after an unconnected motorway protest, just as thousands tried to

:05:45.:05:47.

Now, there will be four more entrances and exits and

:05:48.:05:50.

hundreds of helpers to react to road and site conditions.

:05:51.:05:59.

The Download family as part of an incredible

:06:00.:06:00.

community and the festivalgoers have told us to do that and we have

:06:01.:06:04.

So, a new look Park to welcome this year's headliners a

:06:05.:06:07.

rule Smith and the tens of thousands of fans,

:06:08.:06:10.

rain comes down, Download will still be on the up.

:06:11.:06:14.

More news from me and the team here across the weekend,

:06:15.:06:28.

but let's check on that all important forecast

:06:29.:06:29.

Well, what a weekend we've got on the

:06:30.:06:36.

Dry, fine, lengthy spells of sunshine.

:06:37.:06:39.

Now, it's going to feel warm tomorrow, but it's going to

:06:40.:06:42.

And that's all thanks to high pressure dominating our weather.

:06:43.:06:48.

And it's going to stay settled as we head overnight

:06:49.:06:51.

It could lead to a little bit of patchy

:06:52.:06:55.

And quite chilly, temperatures down to about four to seven

:06:56.:06:59.

In more rural spots, it'll be a little bit cooler than that.

:07:00.:07:03.

Then the breeze starts to come in from the south.

:07:04.:07:07.

A gentle breeze, but it does mean that

:07:08.:07:09.

those temperatures will continue to rise.

:07:10.:07:11.

Highs tomorrow of about 18 degrees, which is 64 Fahrenheit.

:07:12.:07:13.

That's going to lead us to a perfect end to the day.

:07:14.:07:16.

Definitely one for spending outdoors.

:07:17.:07:17.

Then another fine day on Sunday, too.

:07:18.:07:19.

Again, a little bit chilly to start, but as we head

:07:20.:07:22.

through the day, highs of 20 degrees a lovely day.

:07:23.:07:24.

That's all from us here on the late team.

:07:25.:07:26.

I'm going to leave you with the summary, the

:07:27.:07:28.

Monday, and north-westerly wind will drag in more cloud and temperatures

:07:29.:07:33.

will be down by 8-9 . Hello, my advice would be to make

:07:34.:07:43.

the most of the weather this weekend, if you can. Because there

:07:44.:07:46.

will be a good day love sunshine on offer and it will continue to warm

:07:47.:07:51.

up as well. This picture was taken in Cumbria, at Workington, later in

:07:52.:07:54.

the
