With your news now for the East Midlands, I'm Maurice Flynn.

:00:21.:00:23.

A Derbyshire printing firm says it's become unexpectedly busy

:00:24.:00:25.

The company, from Melbourne, normally prints labels for egg boxes

:00:26.:00:28.

But with the flu threat, and hens being kept inside temporarily,

:00:29.:00:33.

they're now making emergency labels, three million of them so far.

:00:34.:00:36.

It is the threat of avian flu striking British flocks that has led

:00:37.:00:41.

to hens being shut in netted enclosures or even kept

:00:42.:00:43.

It has meant free-range egg producers now have to mark every egg

:00:44.:00:50.

box with a label to say the eggs are not at the moment free range.

:00:51.:00:56.

Someone has to produce those labels, and Positive ID Labelling

:00:57.:00:58.

Something in excess of three million.

:00:59.:01:06.

It started off very slowly with lots of phone calls

:01:07.:01:09.

from the customers and once the momentum built, we have had

:01:10.:01:12.

great difficulty in keeping up with the level of orders that

:01:13.:01:14.

Positive ID already make the egg box labels for dozens of small

:01:15.:01:18.

EU regulations say once their birds are inside for 12 weeks

:01:19.:01:23.

It means Positive ID expect to be producing labels for some time yet.

:01:24.:01:29.

Ironically it is good for your business?

:01:30.:01:31.

If it comes on like that, if it stays at current levels,

:01:32.:01:38.

we will be manufacturing something in excess of 10 million

:01:39.:01:40.

Yeah, good short-term business for us.

:01:41.:01:44.

Defra says that although restrictions on hens going outside

:01:45.:01:46.

in low risk areas have now eased, they are still expecting some

:01:47.:01:49.

bio-security regulations to be in place until at least

:01:50.:01:52.

The M1 motorway was closed for a time last night

:02:05.:02:06.

amid fears a passenger plane may crash.

:02:07.:02:08.

East Midlands Airport says a Jet2 flight from Gran

:02:09.:02:10.

Canaria had alerted them to a suspected malfunction.

:02:11.:02:12.

Police closed the motorway in both directions between junctions 23A

:02:13.:02:15.

The plane landed safely a few minutes later

:02:16.:02:18.

and the motorway reopened shortly after.

:02:19.:02:23.

An East Midlands domestic abuse campaign has won worldwide support.

:02:24.:02:26.

Volunteers are making a patchwork quilt representing hundreds of women

:02:27.:02:28.

who have died as a result of domestic violence.

:02:29.:02:31.

There have been contributions from around the world.

:02:32.:02:34.

It will be presented to MPs on Wednesday.

:02:35.:02:37.

One support centre boss says funding for help is not

:02:38.:02:40.

The issue that we are experiencing locally is that there is a much

:02:41.:02:45.

So even though funding remains steady, what we are seeing is women

:02:46.:02:50.

coming in with much more complex issues, a lot more issues

:02:51.:02:52.

around mental health, so the need is higher,

:02:53.:02:54.

and therefore the amount of resources that we need to put

:02:55.:02:57.

into supporting women has also increased but the funding

:02:58.:02:59.

Around a hundred people joined a rally in Loughborough this

:03:00.:03:06.

afternoon to show support for those enduring the on-going

:03:07.:03:09.

Among those to address the crowd was the Loughbourgh MP, Nicky Morgan.

:03:10.:03:14.

The war in Syria has been raging for six years now.

:03:15.:03:17.

Organisers say they fear the plight being faced by millions

:03:18.:03:19.

A former soldier who dedicated his life to the Sherwood Foresters has

:03:20.:03:25.

had a memorial unveiled in his honour.

:03:26.:03:27.

Cliff Housley became the regiment's official historian

:03:28.:03:29.

in 1996, writing 17 books and fundraising for veterans.

:03:30.:03:31.

Today a plaque was unveiled at Staffordshire's National

:03:32.:03:35.

It's been a big day for a group of gospel singers from Leicester.

:03:36.:03:43.

The De Montfort University choir has been recording its very first album

:03:44.:03:45.

with the help of some big industry names.

:03:46.:03:48.

And as you might expect, songs include those Foxes football

:03:49.:03:51.

Their voices sent spirits soaring during Leicester City's

:03:52.:04:10.

Premier League campaign, but there is much more

:04:11.:04:11.

to the De Montford University gospel choir than covering football chants,

:04:12.:04:14.

and today they are recording an album to prove it.

:04:15.:04:16.

One thing we always wanted to do was to get a CD together.

:04:17.:04:21.

For years we were never able to, so it is very, very exciting.

:04:22.:04:26.

This is just one of the tracks on the new album.

:04:27.:04:32.

They are not sure yet what it will be called

:04:33.:04:34.

or when it will be released, but what they do know is they want

:04:35.:04:38.

And they have got the backing of some big industry names.

:04:39.:04:42.

John Illsley, from Dire Straits, and Tom Allom, who has produced

:04:43.:04:45.

tracks for the heavy metal band Judas Priest.

:04:46.:04:47.

Hopefully my knowledge of recording generally,

:04:48.:04:54.

and the number of different types of projects that I have done,

:04:55.:04:57.

will be helpful to this one, and I will be able to bring that

:04:58.:05:00.

knowledge to this lovely choir and help them come out of it

:05:01.:05:03.

The album will not only make money for the choir's new church,

:05:04.:05:07.

For these singers, this really is a happy day.

:05:08.:05:10.

Amy Harris, BBC East Midlands Today, Leicestershire.

:05:11.:05:12.

We've still got some showers to come as we go through this

:05:13.:05:22.

A touch wintry over higher ground for a time but gradually

:05:23.:05:28.

Through the night, it will become drier with a few

:05:29.:05:33.

Under the clear skies, temperatures could fall to around

:05:34.:05:36.

For Monday morning, it is not a bad start.

:05:37.:05:39.

There will be some spells of sunshine.

:05:40.:05:41.

The blue skies should come through but there will be a few

:05:42.:05:44.

Some of these could be fairly slow moving on a light

:05:45.:05:48.

Temperatures tomorrow reaching a high of around nine,

:05:49.:05:51.

For the rest of the week, there will be plenty of dry

:05:52.:05:55.

Temperatures by midweek up to around 11 degrees.

:05:56.:05:57.

More from me and the team here at 10:20 tonight.

:05:58.:06:00.

Hello, as was the case on Saturday there was a lot of whether around

:06:01.:06:18.

today. Showers for some, some saw the staff of postcard material, for

:06:19.:06:22.

others it was more Christmas card material. We had pictures like that

:06:23.:06:29.

quite widely across the Midlands and Wales as well. This weather system

:06:30.:06:33.

has been here for a good part of the day in Wales and the North Midlands

:06:34.:06:40.

and southern England. It is not that warm underneath that particular

:06:41.:06:43.

front. Some winter arenas about some of the rain as it clears away to the

:06:44.:06:49.

near continent. In the south-west we have already seen gusts of 60 miles

:06:50.:06:53.

an hour. That could be

:06:54.:06:54.
