Two heritage giants were rolled into one today,

as a train was named after a plane - the Vulcan bomber.

Although the Vulcan is now mothballed in retirement,

the last flying one was restored to air-worthiness at Bruntingthorpe.

Today one of its pilots was at the Great Central Railway

for the unveiling of the new Vulcan Express.

When I was invited along, I thought I would be coming along

just to do a few photographs and be involved in naming the train,

and I was over the moon when someone said, actually,

you're going to be right on the footplate.

When I flew over this particular train two years ago,

at the time it was just an event we were asked to do,

and I had no idea there would be a collaboration between the Vulcan

and the steam train, and that the steam train

would eventually be renamed the Vulcan Express, so it's a real

honour to be here and be involved in that today.

All small boys always dream of driving steam trains,

I am used to flying a vintage aircraft,

with '40s or '50s technology, and this is similar.

It's obviously from that kind of era.

It's quite different to flying an aircraft,

The experience was out of this world.

The train is obviously a vintage, British-built piece of machinery -

a little bit like the Vulcan, British-built.

But it was a real experience to witness and see it being driven,

These steam trains, and also hopefully the Vulcan in the future,

It is obviously important for all children in future

generations to be able to come along and see and understand a little

Into Easter Monday, then, and it's a return to something

Some sunny spells and still the risk of seeing one
