This is BBC London. so it's goodbye from me,

:00:00.:00:00.

This is what we've got for you this Friday evening.

:00:00.:00:07.

Do you know how many people I've spoken to

:00:08.:00:09.

who have been affected by your fraud, who have lost thousands and

:00:10.:00:12.

I don't know what you're talking about.

:00:13.:00:17.

We expose a fraudster who cons Londoners out of thousands

:00:18.:00:20.

I got scammed is really really badly where I lost ?480. Just got in this

:00:21.:00:35.

country, and scamming them. Georgia stealing from the poorest.

:00:36.:00:36.

There could be hundreds more victims like them.

:00:37.:00:38.

Hundreds of people are evactated from City Airport after reports of a

:00:39.:00:47.

chemical incident. We will have the latest.

:00:48.:00:49.

The patients given a new lease of life.

:00:50.:00:51.

We hear of a potential breakthrough in the treatment of kidney cancer.

:00:52.:00:58.

In practical terms, is means that I will live to see my first

:00:59.:01:06.

grandchild. We are not in Mhami We are in Orlando? No. Tampa.

:01:07.:01:09.

And what it's like going on holiday with Mum.

:01:10.:01:11.

The star of Asian Provocatetr on his new series.

:01:12.:01:25.

Good evening. We start tonight with breaking news. Hundreds of people

:01:26.:01:33.

have been evacuated from London s City Airport after reports of a

:01:34.:01:37.

chemical incident. Our transport correspondence can give is the

:01:38.:01:42.

latest. What we know is that 4pm, 500 passengers and staff were

:01:43.:01:48.

evacuated from the terminal building after reports that some people were

:01:49.:01:53.

feeling unwell. There are ctrrently passengers outside on the road and

:01:54.:01:58.

on the runway. In the last few minutes, London Ambulance Sdrvice,

:01:59.:02:02.

have told us they have tweeted 6 patients at the scene. Two people

:02:03.:02:06.

have been taken to hospital with breathing difficulties. One

:02:07.:02:10.

passenger at the airport is the former heavyweight boxing champion

:02:11.:02:16.

David Hay. He is at the airport He tweeted, everyone started coughing

:02:17.:02:20.

uncontrollably. I have to s`y at the moment, we don't know the c`use of

:02:21.:02:23.

the instrument. One line of enquiry will be chemicals in the

:02:24.:02:28.

ventilation, but as yet nothing official from City Airport to

:02:29.:02:32.

themselves. Obviously, this has caused huge disruption on the roads

:02:33.:02:37.

and in the air. This is London's fifth busiest airport. What I been

:02:38.:02:41.

told is that passengers shotld go check with their airlines bdfore

:02:42.:02:45.

travelling. Thank you very luch for that update. I understand now we can

:02:46.:02:50.

speak to our reporter Andrew who happen to be at London City Airport

:02:51.:02:53.

this afternoon when all this happened. Andrew, can you hdar me?

:02:54.:02:57.

Tell us what's going on down there. Hello. I am just outside London s

:02:58.:03:03.

City Airport. I was due to get on a plane at about five o'clock but at

:03:04.:03:07.

430, an announcement said there was a fire. The building was ev`cuated.

:03:08.:03:11.

Everyone was asked to stand outside. There has been not a lot of

:03:12.:03:15.

information given to passengers From what I understand, the fire

:03:16.:03:18.

brigade are currently insidd doing checks on the airport. That's before

:03:19.:03:22.

they hand back to the airport operators. The result is th`t

:03:23.:03:26.

passengers, all around me as you can see, are awaiting. People are

:03:27.:03:29.

called, they don't know what's going on, they don't know whether they

:03:30.:03:33.

will fly this evening. Some passengers have been advised to go

:03:34.:03:36.

home and that they want to be flying, but as I say, peopld don't

:03:37.:03:40.

know. There have been refreshments handed out, water, crisps and

:03:41.:03:45.

blankets if necessary, but the mood on the ground is really one of a

:03:46.:03:50.

lack of surety and a lack of information. Briefly, it looks very

:03:51.:03:55.

calm there were you are. Whdther any signs of panic earlier on when it

:03:56.:03:59.

was known what was happening? Are not really. There was confusion when

:04:00.:04:04.

the alarm went off. People had to use the emergency exit. But people

:04:05.:04:07.

really have been quite calm. People have been short of informathon, but

:04:08.:04:13.

other than that, it has been fairly British. OK, that's always good

:04:14.:04:19.

Thank you for that update. Lore on that story as things develop on our

:04:20.:04:26.

website. The address as usu`l is BBC .co .uk/ London.

:04:27.:04:28.

Undercover filming by this programme has exposed a fraudster

:04:29.:04:30.

who cons unemployed people out of hundreds of pounds

:04:31.:04:32.

by convincing them he's got them a job

:04:33.:04:34.

The man, who goes by the name of John Phillips,

:04:35.:04:38.

then claims the so-called fde for his service will be rettrned

:04:39.:04:42.

Not surprisingly, their mondy's never seen again,

:04:43.:04:47.

as Phillips disappears with their cash.

:04:48.:04:50.

Victims, of which there may be hundreds, are then not only left

:04:51.:04:53.

in debt and jobless with their confidence

:04:54.:04:55.

All of these people have one thing in common.

:04:56.:05:06.

They've all been scammed with a fake job by one man.

:05:07.:05:10.

I never got my money back and even though he

:05:11.:05:18.

promised on the phone that he will return it at some point,

:05:19.:05:21.

You're very well aware of what your employment

:05:22.:05:26.

And this is the man who scammed them.

:05:27.:05:29.

We investigate after hearing numerous

:05:30.:05:32.

reports and post a CV on job websites

:05:33.:05:35.

that we know Phillips apparently targets.

:05:36.:05:38.

Soon, we get contacted by a firm, Premier Employment

:05:39.:05:41.

But before we start, he says we need to come to `

:05:42.:06:00.

When we arrive, no sign of John but this lady gets us

:06:01.:06:06.

And sells the parks of working there.

:06:07.:06:20.

And then, like all these people we are asked

:06:21.:06:23.

for a fee to work at the company.

:06:24.:06:29.

When we come out of the interview, we spot John

:06:30.:06:31.

Lo and behold, the lady we've met

:06:32.:06:38.

Later, we discover she was being conned with a fake job

:06:39.:06:42.

In my eyes, it's exploitation of vulnerable job seekers.

:06:43.:06:48.

Nobody should be paying to find to start a new job

:06:49.:06:52.

And we discover John Phillips is far from a genuine employer.

:06:53.:06:59.

He's set up more than ten bogus companies,

:07:00.:07:02.

And since 2012, potentially hundreds of people have

:07:03.:07:08.

I wouldn't say it's exactly depression, but it was a st`te

:07:09.:07:16.

where I was completely stressed financially.

:07:17.:07:19.

Especially being, like, the age that you are.

:07:20.:07:27.

Young people like me who've just got in this country and

:07:28.:07:29.

scamming them, I mean, you're just stealing from the poorest.

:07:30.:07:35.

The way Phillips works is after taking a fee,

:07:36.:07:37.

he gets those who think thex are starting a new job for him to

:07:38.:07:41.

As he says goodbye, we seize the moment to ask

:07:42.:07:53.

Just wondered if you could tell me all

:07:54.:07:59.

about the high levels of fr`ud you've been committing against many,

:08:00.:08:01.

many people by lying about various jobs?

:08:02.:08:03.

I don't know what you're talking about.

:08:04.:08:05.

You don't know what were talking about?

:08:06.:08:07.

Well, we've been recording xou over the last few

:08:08.:08:09.

months offering people jobs, about fictitious companies.

:08:10.:08:13.

I don't know what you're talking about.

:08:14.:08:14.

And do you know how many people I've spoken to

:08:15.:08:17.

who have been affected by your fraud, who have lost thousands and

:08:18.:08:20.

What you have to say to them, Mr Phillips?

:08:21.:08:23.

I don't know what you're talking about.

:08:24.:08:25.

I have never seen a more pernicious kind of fraud as

:08:26.:08:28.

And Phillips has now gone underground, leaving

:08:29.:08:33.

And if you've been affected by this or a similar scam,

:08:34.:08:40.

The address is [email protected].

:08:41.:08:47.

on Inside Out London tonight at 7.30pm here on BBC One.

:08:48.:09:00.

A paedophile has been jailed, after vigilantes set a trap for him

:09:01.:09:03.

at the Bluewater Shopping Centre in Kent.

:09:04.:09:06.

Mark McKenna was lured into meeting what he thought would be

:09:07.:09:08.

an 11-year-old girl for sex after sending

:09:09.:09:12.

The messages, were in fact sent by the vigilante group,

:09:13.:09:16.

With the details, here's Piers Hopkirk.

:09:17.:09:25.

Paedophile Mark McKenna believed he was about to

:09:26.:09:36.

meet the 11-year-old girl hd'd been grooming online for sex.

:09:37.:09:39.

Instead, he was confronted by a group

:09:40.:09:41.

Do you know what it actuallx does to a child of that age?

:09:42.:09:49.

Following his arrest, McKenna was today sentenced

:09:50.:09:54.

the judge calling his behaviour abhorrent.

:09:55.:09:56.

The men behind the sting gave this reaction.

:09:57.:09:58.

These are people preying on children.

:09:59.:10:01.

And we want to see harsher sentences because it's got to be stopped.

:10:02.:10:05.

The group calling itself The Hunted One had

:10:06.:10:08.

set up a profile of a fictitious 11-year-old girl on Instagr`m.

:10:09.:10:13.

McKenna then groomed her online suggesting they meet up for sex

:10:14.:10:17.

You'll have to be my daughter for the day.

:10:18.:10:22.

He even told her that his ghrlfriend was in London and said, you just

:10:23.:10:26.

Just before they were due to meet, he sent a picttre

:10:27.:10:31.

of an un-opened packet of condoms and the words,

:10:32.:10:34.

Hours later though, he was tnder arrest, but there was a

:10:35.:10:37.

warning today over a sting operations like this.

:10:38.:10:44.

You may have made flaws in gaining your evidence

:10:45.:10:46.

Entrapment and agent provocateur, all of those

:10:47.:10:48.

things, inciting a person to commit an offence is a huge danger.

:10:49.:10:52.

You also don't know if the police are

:10:53.:10:54.

already investigating this particular person.

:10:55.:10:57.

I can understand the motivation of people who want to

:10:58.:11:00.

stamp out paedophilia and who perhaps feel

:11:01.:11:05.

that it is a largely unreported crime, and even when it is

:11:06.:11:07.

reported, conviction rates aren't that high,

:11:08.:11:10.

so I can understand the motivation.

:11:11.:11:13.

But I think the methods perhaps are a little bit concerning.

:11:14.:11:18.

The Hunted One though defended its actions.

:11:19.:11:20.

This particular case, we know

:11:21.:11:22.

wouldn't have gone to court, this guy would never have bden

:11:23.:11:25.

I mean, we don't want to interfere with the police at all.

:11:26.:11:29.

Everything we do is basically what we're trying to do ourselves.

:11:30.:11:35.

We're going out, we're trying to catch the paedophiles.

:11:36.:11:37.

Passing sentence, Judge Philip Statman told the court that McKenna

:11:38.:11:39.

had received hate mail and death threats following his conviction.

:11:40.:11:43.

And as well as losing his job, and his girlfriend, he was now

:11:44.:11:47.

Still to come. It's not just Chelsea against Manchester United on Sunday,

:11:48.:12:12.

it's the return of Jose Mourinho. So we find out if the blues fan still

:12:13.:12:14.

think he really is all that special. If you're one of the million

:12:15.:12:23.

or so people who visit have you noticed a tree

:12:24.:12:25.

appearing overnight? It's on the spot of where

:12:26.:12:28.

another tree used to stand before it was vandalised

:12:29.:12:31.

and taken away. Well, a seven-year-old girl

:12:32.:12:32.

was so distressed to see it gone, she decided to secretly plant

:12:33.:12:36.

another one in its place Arrabella is here with me

:12:37.:12:42.

now, with dad, Neil. You're meant to be tucked up in bed,

:12:43.:12:52.

not planting trees at night What were you doing? Why did you do it?

:12:53.:12:58.

Because it was so empty. Did you miss the other three? Yes. When did

:12:59.:13:05.

you decide to plant another one Because of the trees were lhned up

:13:06.:13:12.

in one space and just empty. You didn't like to see it empty? Let me

:13:13.:13:18.

speak to dad. Neil, you are encouraging her, surely. Thd other

:13:19.:13:22.

way round! Earlier in the ydar, in the summer, her school had ` thing

:13:23.:13:28.

where they were growing seeds. One of the things that we did w`s we

:13:29.:13:34.

were growing sunflowers and we drew so many sunflowers that we decided

:13:35.:13:40.

to plant them out in the street We had the feedback, it was am`zing. We

:13:41.:13:44.

had no strong local residents and tourists saying what a lovely thing

:13:45.:13:51.

it was to do, so when we fotnd a space, it was Arabella's idda. We

:13:52.:13:58.

can see the tree and weak as you note there. On the note, it says

:13:59.:14:02.

please respect the tree as ht was bought with my own money. How cute!

:14:03.:14:08.

Plus my daddy risked getting arrested planting it. Are pdople

:14:09.:14:14.

taking care of the tree? Yes. You've made it a nice Street, haven't you?

:14:15.:14:20.

Yes. Lovely. Westminster Cotncil, they remove the tree becausd it had

:14:21.:14:25.

been vandalised. What is thdir response to what they've done?

:14:26.:14:28.

Westminster have been incredible. They have been really supportive. We

:14:29.:14:32.

had really good feedback from everyone. Everything that's been

:14:33.:14:37.

going on with Brexit, it's been a real negative feel in the ahr, so we

:14:38.:14:41.

have brought something a bit more positive. You've made us smhle

:14:42.:14:45.

today. I hope a lot of people follow that example. Arabella annu`l, thank

:14:46.:14:47.

you very much. Researchers at the University

:14:48.:14:48.

of Surrey believe they've m`de a major breakthrough

:14:49.:14:50.

in the treatment of kidney cancer. They say they've managed

:14:51.:14:52.

to increase the length of thme after surgery that patients remain

:14:53.:14:55.

free from the disease. The treatment still needs fhnal

:14:56.:14:58.

approval, but Yvonne Hall h`s been speaking to someone who feels

:14:59.:15:01.

its already saved her life. Margaret Turner at her home

:15:02.:15:03.

in West Cumberland, Surrey. The former teacher has

:15:04.:15:10.

advanced kidney cancer. A few years ago, she feared

:15:11.:15:13.

it would kill her. Then she took part in

:15:14.:15:16.

a trial at Surrey Universitx to try and find

:15:17.:15:19.

a treatment to delay the I am at the living

:15:20.:15:21.

proof of its success. If I hadn't been lucky enough

:15:22.:15:27.

to have gone on the professor's S-track trial of Sunitinib,

:15:28.:15:32.

I wouldn't be alive today. In fact, I wouldn't have

:15:33.:15:37.

survived for very many years at all. Normally, after surgery,

:15:38.:15:45.

to remove kidney tumours, there's a 50% chance of the disease

:15:46.:15:47.

returning within five years. The trial gave

:15:48.:15:52.

patients one tablet of the drug Sunitinib

:15:53.:15:54.

every day for one year. They found it delayed

:15:55.:15:58.

the return of the So we'll have 24 patients in total

:15:59.:16:00.

and then we can run the ess`y later The international trial has

:16:01.:16:07.

been led in the UK by Oncologists say the results

:16:08.:16:12.

are a major breakthrough. This is the first medication

:16:13.:16:19.

and the first trial after a number of attempts over

:16:20.:16:21.

the last 20-25 years to try and improve the prognosis

:16:22.:16:25.

after surgery for so-called high-risk disease,

:16:45.:16:48.

patients will benefit. For Margaret, the future

:16:49.:16:50.

now holds hope. In practical terms, it

means that I will live to There's a familiar face comhng back

to London this weekend. He was the most successful

manager in Chelsea history but on Sunday, Jose Mourinho

:17:14.:17:20.

will return to Stamford Bridge With both sides separated bx just

them into the top four. With Antonio Conte now in charge

:17:28.:17:30.

in south-west London, I've been finding out how the Blues f`ns

:17:31.:17:33.

will receive their former boss After delivering his first Premier

:17:34.:17:49.

League title to Chelsea, within months, Jose Mourinho went from this

:17:50.:17:54.

to this. His sacking saw thd Blues move on without him but Mourinho did

:17:55.:17:58.

not hide forever. He became the manager of Manchester United. I knew

:17:59.:18:04.

that sooner or later I had to play against Chelsea and I had to go to

:18:05.:18:09.

Stamford Bridge. And the colputers decided that was to go now. And here

:18:10.:18:18.

we go. Is a Mourinho has pl`yed here once before as the manager of

:18:19.:18:22.

another club. That was Inter Milan back in 2010. He joked in the

:18:23.:18:25.

build-up to that clash that he was always lucky at the bridge. In the

:18:26.:18:30.

build-up to this match, well, he admits that his like he did

:18:31.:18:36.

eventually run out. Last se`son I lost two or three matches. H cannot

:18:37.:18:44.

use the same words. The match isn't just attracting interest here in the

:18:45.:18:48.

UK. Fans are flocking from `cross the world to be at the Bridge on

:18:49.:18:54.

Sunday. I saw the fixture lhst, I knew I would come over in the fall

:18:55.:18:57.

for a game and it was the only game I could come to. It is the return

:18:58.:19:01.

and everyone wants to be thdre for that. I will applaud him, btt he is

:19:02.:19:05.

the enemy on Sunday. I have always wanted to come to London and the

:19:06.:19:09.

timing was perfectly in this match is going to be really speci`l, so we

:19:10.:19:15.

had to be here. He won thred championships. He remains in the

:19:16.:19:26.

heart of the fans. Jose Mourinho in their hearts, but is he still

:19:27.:19:30.

special? You will always be special to Chelsea fans. But I won't mind it

:19:31.:19:38.

if Man United finishes seventh. His return will still headlines, but 20

:19:39.:19:46.

years ago, former Chelsea dhrector Harding died in a crash on his way

:19:47.:19:53.

home from the match. A banndr will be unveiled in his memory. @ tribute

:19:54.:19:55.

:19:56.:19:59.

that the NFL is back But the game between the LA Rams

:20:00.:20:02.

and the New York Giants won't be played at Wembley

:20:03.:20:06.

as the American sport switches from the home of football

:20:07.:20:08.

to the home of rugby. Twickenham is this weekend's host

:20:09.:20:11.

venue as Emma Jones explains. The posts are different, thd

:20:12.:20:17.

markings are different. Behhnd the scenes, they've even had to make the

:20:18.:20:21.

dressing room is bigger. Thd home of England's rugby has gone through a

:20:22.:20:24.

few changes as it prepares to welcome the NFL for the verx first

:20:25.:20:29.

time. It's given us something to work at and to get our teeth into.

:20:30.:20:35.

And at Twickenham, we just dnjoy the big events. We've had big rock acts

:20:36.:20:39.

here, the Rolling Stones regular and it is something different and in a

:20:40.:20:47.

groundsman's like it's great. Some of the LA Rams players gave young

check with their airlines bdfore travelling. Obviously, a lot of

:22:28.:22:31.

disruption in that area and in the skies. A lot of disruption. An

:22:32.:22:35.

ongoing situation. Comedian Romesh Ranganathan is best

:22:36.:22:36.

known for his appearances on Mock The Week and his

I don't even have to try. Never say never, but at the moment,

I don't even want to go Would you prefer that

going to actually tell my mtm that. I love that McKee has. His new

:25:25.:25:39.

series starts online on BBC Three very soon.

:25:40.:25:48.

Quiet but nice settled weather at the moment. This was this morning.

:25:49.:25:55.

Elephant and Castle. A lovely sunrise. The cloud filled in a bit

:25:56.:25:59.

more so this was later in the afternoon in Greenwich. I skipped

:26:00.:26:01.

through that but it was clotdy. All this cloud but the brakes are coming

:26:02.:26:05.

in off the North Sea now so although we have seen one or two showers late

:26:06.:26:09.

this afternoon, it will turn clearer through the night so what does that

:26:10.:26:13.

me and October with leading lights? It will turn chillier than last

:26:14.:26:17.

night so probably touch and go for a grass frost but things will get down

:26:18.:26:20.

to within a few degrees of freezing but they will stay at six or seven

:26:21.:26:25.

in the towns. Nest and fork though because we've had these showers a

:26:26.:26:30.

bit of fog out and about. That's something to watch for as wdll. A

:26:31.:26:33.

travel warning just in case you encounter that in the morning. Tune

:26:34.:26:38.

in to BBC radio or a local radio. It is clear mid-morning and thdn we

:26:39.:26:41.

will see more sunshine than today and fewer showers. A change of the

:26:42.:26:45.

wind direction makes light winds and 14 and 15 will feel quite pleasant.

:26:46.:26:50.

Although, as I say, a chillx start. And it's chilly at the moment as you

:26:51.:26:54.

would expect in October. Ch`nges were going to Sunday. High pressure

:26:55.:26:58.

still with us so a lot of dry settled weather. This low pressure

:26:59.:27:02.

we are watching, a game changer later in the day. Sunday morning

:27:03.:27:06.

starts on the misty, for Kexnote. It takes awhile to lift but thdn the

:27:07.:27:12.

wind strengthens, largely dry, good spells of sunshine until probably

:27:13.:27:15.

overnight when we see that thicker cloud and rain coming in. Chilly as

:27:16.:27:19.

we pick up that strengthening easterly wind on Sunday, th`t's the

:27:20.:27:23.

difference to Saturday and Sunday but we keep largely settled weather

:27:24.:27:26.

into the beginning of next week as well.

:27:27.:27:29.

Looking quite decent. Helen, thank you very much.

:27:30.:27:33.

Thank you for joining us. Alex will be here at 10:30pm with our late

:27:34.:27:39.

news and the latest from thd airport. Enjoy your evening.

:27:40.:27:40.

Goodbye.
