That's all from the BBC News at Six.

0:00:000:00:12

Coming up on BBC London News.

0:00:120:00:13

The Mayor accuses the government

of abandoning Londoners over air

0:00:130:00:15

pollution calling it a scandal.

0:00:150:00:20

We have been told overnight London

cannot bid for that.

0:00:200:00:22

We'll explain why and hear

what the government has to say.

0:00:220:00:25

Also tonight...

0:00:250:00:30

It is such a senseless, senseless

things to do. That he is not here

0:00:300:00:33

with us.

0:00:330:00:34

A mother appeals for help to

catch her son's killer.

0:00:340:00:42

He was out with friends

and stabbed to death

0:00:420:00:44

for his Rolex watch.

0:00:450:00:46

Plus - a warning about Black Friday

from police over shopping fraud.

0:00:460:00:48

And a fox in the family -

how an adopted cub is making himself

0:00:480:00:52

at home in Hertfordshire.

0:00:520:00:58

A very good evening

to you and welcome to the programme.

0:00:580:01:01

He's accused the Government

of abandoning Londoners

0:01:010:01:04

affected by air pollution.

0:01:040:01:11

The Mayor says it's a scandal

that our city won't be eligible

0:01:110:01:14

for a new multi-million

pound Clean Air Fund.

0:01:140:01:16

Sadiq Khan was giving evidence

to a joint inquiry at the Commons

0:01:160:01:22

into improving air quality.

to a joint inquiry at the Commons

0:01:220:01:23

The government said London already

receives a settlement from them

0:01:230:01:25

to improve air quality

and reduce harmful emissions.

0:01:250:01:27

Louisa Preston reports.

0:01:270:01:29

A message from primary school

children about the poor quality of

0:01:290:01:32

the air they breathe in the capital.

These young people from Chestnuts

0:01:320:01:37

primary School in Haringey were

petitioning Downing Street because

0:01:370:01:40

they go to school where pollution

levels break the law.

It is bad for

0:01:400:01:47

the children because our playground

is next to a busy road. That is

0:01:470:01:51

really not good for our health.

Ever

pollution is causing a lot of deaths

0:01:510:01:56

and diseases. Maybe if it cannot be

stopped it should be reduced

0:01:560:02:02

somehow.

Diesel vehicles are the

biggest cause of the problem in

0:02:020:02:05

London and in the budget the

Chancellor increased tax on diesel

0:02:050:02:10

cars and announced £220 million for

a Clean Air Fund but the capital

0:02:100:02:16

will not get any of it, something

the mayor says is a scandal.

The

0:02:160:02:21

government is saying there is £220

million. We cannot receive any of

0:02:210:02:29

that. It is not sustainable to

expect a London mayor to do this

0:02:290:02:35

investment to help local authorities

without help from central

0:02:350:02:37

government.

It is not just the

mayors saying the government is not

0:02:370:02:41

going far enough.

We want bigger

taxation that could have led to a

0:02:410:02:45

bigger fund to help people get out

of their diesel car and switch to

0:02:450:02:49

alternative forms of transport.

Clean air is a complex problem with

0:02:490:02:54

pollution coming from construction

vehicles, boilers, farming, wood

0:02:540:02:59

fires and even car tyres as they

wear down. The government insists it

0:02:590:03:08

is cleaning up the air as fast as it

can but with children starting to

0:03:080:03:11

make a stand and every person in the

capital breathing in air that

0:03:110:03:14

exceeds global guidelines it is an

issue not likely to go away.

0:03:140:03:16

Louisa, the Mayor not

holding back over this?

0:03:160:03:21

He is not. He is not happy. He made

that clear on Twitter. He said it is

0:03:210:03:28

a scandal the city will not be

eligible for the government clean

0:03:280:03:31

air fund. He added... We heard

yesterday the Chancellor is

0:03:310:03:39

increasing taxes on diesel cars to

create this 220 million Clean Air

0:03:390:03:46

Fund. Local councils will be able to

apply for money but London will not

0:03:460:03:51

because of its devolved powers. We

know Sadiq Khan has put air

0:03:510:03:55

pollution as a top priority and

introduce the T charge last month

0:03:550:03:59

and we know the ultra emission zone

will be put in place next year. The

0:03:590:04:05

oldest and most polluting vehicles

with the T charge pay extra to come

0:04:050:04:10

into London and with the low

emission zone the older cars will

0:04:100:04:14

have an additional charge put on

them. What is the government saying?

0:04:140:04:19

We have had a statement from the

Department night saying the Mayor of

0:04:190:04:24

London has received a comprehensive

funding settlement from the

0:04:240:04:27

government worth more than 5 billion

. Next year, the government will

0:04:270:04:43

publish a clean air strategy to set

out new areas of tackling air

0:04:430:04:47

pollution. The mayor feels annoyed

he cannot get his hands on any of

0:04:470:04:52

this money announced yesterday

because of the problems we have in

0:04:520:04:56

London, and he believes the

government should do more to help

0:04:560:04:59

people that suffer with high air

pollution in the capital.

Thank you.

0:04:590:05:07

A senseless attack that has

left a family broken -

0:05:070:05:09

the words of the mother

of builder Danny Pearce,

0:05:090:05:11

who was stabbed to death

in Greenwich while being robbed

0:05:110:05:14

of his Rolex watch.

0:05:140:05:15

Four months on, the Met

is renewing its appeal

0:05:150:05:17

for information about his killers

with a £10,000 reward

0:05:170:05:20

for information that leads

to a secure conviction.

0:05:200:05:22

Helen Mulroy reports.

0:05:220:05:24

Enjoying a night out with friends.

0:05:240:05:27

This was Danny Pearce in Greenwich

on the 14th of July this year.

0:05:270:05:31

Just hours after this video

was taken, Danny was dead -

0:05:310:05:35

stabbed as he made his way home,

all for his Rolex watch.

0:05:350:05:44

He was my baby.

0:05:450:05:47

All our lives have changed.

0:05:470:05:49

All of them.

0:05:490:05:53

How you see me I have changed into

two people. I am one person at work

0:05:530:05:58

because I cannot be like this at

work. When I come home... This is

0:05:580:06:06

how I am.

0:06:060:06:08

Two men have been arrested but no

charges have been laid.

0:06:080:06:11

Now the Metropolitan Police

are renewing their appeal

0:06:110:06:13

for information.

0:06:130:06:14

Newly released CCTV shows

Danny making his way

0:06:140:06:17

down King William Walk

with friends just after midnight.

0:06:170:06:22

This was the moment he was singled

out by his killers on their moped.

0:06:220:06:25

They make a U-turn to return

and launch their attack.

0:06:250:06:28

One produces a hunting knife

and the other a gun.

0:06:280:06:30

They make a demand

for Danny's watch.

0:06:300:06:36

A struggle ensues and ultimately

Danny ends up here, unfortunately

0:06:360:06:39

fatally stabbed, and here

on these very steps sadly

0:06:390:06:42

Danny lost his life.

0:06:420:06:44

The group had been shot at,

and Danny repeatedly stabbed.

0:06:440:06:49

It's most likely the longest, most

sustained stabbing I have ever come

0:06:490:06:52

across in my 26 years of service.

0:06:520:06:56

Danny's family hope that

in revealing more details

0:06:560:06:58

about the violent and

sustained attack that

0:06:580:07:00

killed their son and brother,

0:07:000:07:05

in here, what is a popular London

nightspot, it may jog the memory

0:07:050:07:09

of anybody who knows

anything further about

0:07:090:07:10

the identity of his killers.

0:07:100:07:15

I just can't get it out of my head.

0:07:150:07:17

Such a senseless, senseless thing

0:07:170:07:19

to do and he's not here with us.

0:07:190:07:22

He's just not here.

0:07:220:07:28

Crimestoppers is offering a £10,000

reward for any information that

0:07:280:07:30

will secure a conviction.

0:07:300:07:37

And the number to call

Crimestoppers is 0800 555 111.

0:07:370:07:40

That number again, 0800 555 111.

0:07:400:07:47

You're watching BBC London News,

coming up later in the programme...

0:07:470:07:51

As the trial date is set next

month for the Hampstead

0:07:510:07:54

mother jailed in Iran,

we speak to her husband

0:07:540:07:58

about how they are coping.

0:07:580:08:05

Christmas shoppers are being urged

not to rush into buying gifts

0:08:050:08:08

from unknown sellers.

0:08:080:08:10

New figures show that

in 2015 victims lost nearly

0:08:100:08:13

£10 million to fraudsters.

0:08:130:08:15

In 2016 that figure

rose to 16 million.

0:08:150:08:19

City of London Police have launched

a campaign warning buyers

0:08:190:08:21

that they could be playing

into the hands of scammers

0:08:210:08:24

in their attempts to snap

up seasonal bargains.

0:08:240:08:26

Helen Drew is on a busy

Oxford Street and can tell us more.

0:08:260:08:36

You may be watching this thinking I

cannot think about Christmas

0:08:360:08:39

shopping until December but a lot of

people right now are well under way

0:08:390:08:44

with their heirs and tomorrow will

be busier. It is Black Friday and

0:08:440:08:50

shortly after cyber Monday, the

busiest day for online shopping.

0:08:500:08:55

Police today warned of the dangers

that can come with it. 32 days until

0:08:550:09:00

Christmas. Some people are ramping

up present buying. The Action Fraud

0:09:000:09:06

team is warning of online shopping

dangers. They say the most likely

0:09:060:09:11

thing people tried to buy from

fraudsters are mobile phones

0:09:110:09:15

followed by clothing and accessories

and then footwear. Specific items

0:09:150:09:19

victims report are Kanye West's

trainers. Fitness watches and this

0:09:190:09:29

make up. If I go on the official

website I can buy this popular

0:09:290:09:36

lipstick it for $29 plus shipping

from America but online by searching

0:09:360:09:40

can find the same thing for £1.99.

They say if something looks too good

0:09:400:09:48

to be true, it probably is. Those

items often turn out to be fake or

0:09:480:09:53

never turn up. It is also stealing

credit card details. This afternoon

0:09:530:09:58

it did not take long to find victims

of fraud.

Somebody had put something

0:09:580:10:05

on my card and I checked the bank

statement and it was seven or eight

0:10:050:10:12

flights, over £2000.

Frightening. I

do not do much online shopping

0:10:120:10:17

possibly because I am nervous of

that very thing happening. The only

0:10:170:10:22

online fraud I have had is buying

concert tickets that was enough.

I

0:10:220:10:28

am reasonably cautious, probably not

enough.

Probably passwords need to

0:10:280:10:32

be about. The 14 say it is crucial

to think twice.

I did think there

0:10:320:10:38

was something wrong but I clicked

anyway. If you take time, time to

0:10:380:10:44

think, count to five.

It will

probably save you money. The 14's

0:10:440:10:50

campaign is urging people to do

that. Slow down and think before

0:10:500:10:56

clicking the buy now button. You

heard the advice of the report about

0:10:560:11:02

having to avoid online shopping

fraud. The City of London Police

0:11:020:11:07

issue other advice which includes

using PayPal online because that

0:11:070:11:12

offers buyers a certain amount of

protection and making sure you have

0:11:120:11:16

antivirus software on your devices

and you update it regularly. Another

0:11:160:11:21

piece of advice, ensuring you use

strong passwords, and it does not

0:11:210:11:26

mean the same password for

everything. When I interviewed the

0:11:260:11:31

detective inspector, he told me the

most popular pass word still is the

0:11:310:11:36

word pass word. If it is a website

where you need numbers it is

0:11:360:11:44

password 1234. If you think that

sounds familiar you might want to

0:11:440:11:49

think about changing that. Last year

there were £60 million of Christmas

0:11:490:11:55

shopping fraud and before that 10

million so it is increasing and

0:11:550:11:59

police said they expect this year it

will be more than ever.

0:11:590:12:04

A man from Luton who was about to

travel to Syria to join so-called

0:12:040:12:07

Islamic State has been jailed

for six years.

0:12:070:12:09

The Old Bailey heard how 22-year-old

Mubashir Jamil had become

0:12:090:12:11

obsessed with martyrdom.

0:12:110:12:13

He was arrested after a covert

police operation last year

0:12:130:12:16

after telling an undercover officer

he'd blow himself up.

0:12:160:12:19

He'll serve part of his sentence

in a secure hospital.

0:12:190:12:24

Footage has emerged of the moment

a teenager came off his bike

0:12:240:12:28

while police officers were trying

to stop him in south London.

0:12:280:12:31

The video shows 15-year-old

Terrel Jones-Burton crash

0:12:310:12:36

into a shop doorway in Bermondsey.

0:12:360:12:37

He was arrested on suspicion

of robbery and taken to hospital

0:12:370:12:40

with facial injuries.

0:12:400:12:41

His mother has told BBC

London her son was the victim

0:12:410:12:43

of mistaken identity

and excessive force.

0:12:430:12:45

The police watchdog

is investigating.

0:12:450:12:50

It's now been 600 days

since a London mother

0:12:500:12:52

was first imprisoned in Iran.

0:12:520:12:55

That's according to the campaign

to free Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe.

0:12:550:12:59

She's being held in Tehran

accused of spying -

0:12:590:13:01

charges she denies.

0:13:010:13:03

The time she's served means

she becomes eligible for early

0:13:030:13:05

release from her first

sentence of five years,

0:13:050:13:10

but is still facing further charges

for which a trial date is believed

0:13:100:13:13

to have been set for next month.

0:13:130:13:15

Nazanin's husband Richard

is here with me.

0:13:150:13:20

Thank you for coming in.

0:13:200:13:21

Does it feel like there is a light

at the end of tunnel

0:13:210:13:24

in terms of Nazanin eligible

for early release?

0:13:240:13:29

Certainly now we have got to a

point, 600 days is a long time but

0:13:290:13:34

now we have an application in hoping

she will be granted it and we have a

0:13:340:13:39

march on Saturday where we will take

a letter to the supreme leader's

0:13:390:13:44

office in London to ask if he will

consider her case. There are

0:13:440:13:48

certainly things we can hope for.

How is Nazanin coping? You mentioned

0:13:480:13:54

she found lumps in her breast.

That

is right, ten days ago she was taken

0:13:540:13:59

to the doctor with lumps in her

breast and the worry was breast

0:13:590:14:07

cancer because she has it in the

family. She was taken back last

0:14:070:14:10

Saturday and responded to medication

so it looks like they are not

0:14:100:14:12

cancerous, which was a relief. In

terms of her mental health, it is a

0:14:120:14:19

long time to be in solitary

confinement and imprisoned. In the

0:14:190:14:25

past month there has been the

turmoil of things in the media here.

0:14:250:14:29

She is pretty fragile.

How are you

coping? It has been a long process

0:14:290:14:34

and the past couple of weeks, people

will have seen me on television all

0:14:340:14:39

over the place. I am glad she's

getting the attention, that is what

0:14:390:14:44

keeps me going.

You mentioned the

past few weeks have been busy and

0:14:440:14:48

you have been on media, because of

comments by the Foreign Secretary.

0:14:480:14:54

You met Boris Johnson last week. Are

you feeling any more confident you

0:14:540:14:58

will get to go to Iran because that

is what you wanted?

I met the

0:14:580:15:03

Foreign Secretary and asked him that

I would like to come with him when

0:15:030:15:06

he goes to Tehran and he said he was

keen and he had to consult with his

0:15:060:15:12

staff and the Iranian authorities.

He sent me a text message this

0:15:120:15:16

morning saying his thoughts were

with us. I followed up with the new

0:15:160:15:21

trial date for 10th of December to

ask if he could get there in time

0:15:210:15:26

for that. I will put in a new

request to the Iranian embassy to

0:15:260:15:30

ask if I can be there to witness the

trial.

When you met, did you talk

0:15:300:15:35

about the fact the comments he made

in the Foreign Affairs Committee

0:15:350:15:40

saying Nazanin was training

journalists and the effect it may

0:15:400:15:45

have had? The statement said the

Iranian Foreign Minister assured the

0:15:450:15:49

Foreign Secretary his remarks have

no bearing on Nazanin Zaghari-

0:15:490:15:53

Ratcliffe -'s case and he is

committed to working with the UK.

0:15:530:15:57

The Foreign Secretary stressed there

are worries about the new case and

0:15:570:16:01

we talked about the details of it

and what was likely next and about

0:16:010:16:07

health and about the visit. The key

focus was on when is he going green

0:16:070:16:15

can I go with him.

Do you think the

government is doing enough to get

0:16:150:16:19

Nazanin home in time for Christmas?

I hope they are doing all they can.

0:16:190:16:23

One thing we are pushing for is to

have a meeting to discuss the idea

0:16:230:16:29

of diplomatic protection, where she

is protected more seriously than

0:16:290:16:33

already, so there are things to push

behind closed doors and as soon as

0:16:330:16:37

the visit is arranged, the better.

Please keep us posted and we wish

0:16:370:16:41

you the best.

0:16:410:16:43

More than 80 firefighters

were called to a fire

0:16:430:16:45

at an industrial estate in north

London this morning.

0:16:450:16:47

It started just after nine

o'clock and destroyed

0:16:470:16:49

part of football-club

Tottenham Hotspurs'

0:16:490:16:50

merchandise warehouse.

0:16:500:16:51

The cause of the fire

is unknown and there are no

0:16:510:16:54

reported casualties.

0:16:540:16:58

The introduction of new Thameslink

rail services to ease north to south

0:16:580:17:01

travel through central London has

been delayed by up to a year.

0:17:010:17:04

The new timetable of 24 trains

an hour at peak times on the Bedford

0:17:040:17:07

to Brighton line was meant to be

in place by December 2018

0:17:070:17:10

but it has been put back.

0:17:100:17:11

The National Audit Office said

adequate arrangements hadn't yet

0:17:110:17:14

been made to manage the launch.

0:17:140:17:20

Still to come this

Thursday evening...

0:17:200:17:27

Chips can prevent global warming so

that has got to be a good thing.

0:17:270:17:31

We'll tell you why it may not be

as far fetched as it sounds.

0:17:310:17:35

And...

0:17:350:17:41

# Please release me, can't you see

#.

0:17:410:17:46

Engelbert Humperdinck talks

candidly about how his music

0:17:460:17:48

is helping his wife

who has Alzheimers.

0:17:480:17:51

Next, a story which

has divided opinion.

0:17:510:17:54

A family in Hertfordshire has

defended keeping a fox as a pet.

0:17:540:17:58

They adopted the animal

after it was handed into a vet

0:17:580:18:00

when it was just a few days old.

0:18:000:18:03

They've been hand-rearing

it for seven months.

0:18:030:18:05

As Sonja Jessup reports.

0:18:050:18:10

No, it is not a scene from last

year's John Lewis Christmas advert.

0:18:140:18:20

Jasper the fox is a family pet. He

has lived with Natalie and her

0:18:200:18:25

children since he was two days old.

She took a call from a vet who said

0:18:250:18:31

he'd been abandoned and would need

hand rearing.

At first it was

0:18:310:18:37

through the night every couple of

hours I would have to get up and

0:18:370:18:40

feed him.

The family already had

three dogs, a cat and a horse.

0:18:400:18:43

Natalie said the fox fits in well

but she treats him differently to

0:18:430:18:49

her other pets.

You can only

domesticate them to a certain level

0:18:490:18:53

so it is respecting his natural

behaviours and learning what his

0:18:530:18:57

noises mean and learning when you

have to be careful. His warning

0:18:570:19:02

signals, stuff like that.

In fact

after a few months, Jasper proved

0:19:020:19:07

too much of a handful inside the

house so he now has his own

0:19:070:19:11

enclosure in the garage. An animal

charity says foxes belong in the

0:19:110:19:15

wild, but Natalie says she is

worried he wouldn't survive.

He's

0:19:150:19:24

not in a cage, his only there in

night-time and for his safety so

0:19:240:19:28

it's not like I'm keeping him

captive in a cage. He has a sense of

0:19:280:19:32

freedom and we do go on walks so

people are always going to judge

0:19:320:19:37

whatever we do.

She's hoping Jasper

decides to settle here and make

0:19:370:19:43

himself at home.

0:19:430:19:45

Turning now to a bold claim -

could chips and fried food really

0:19:450:19:48

help save the planet?

0:19:480:19:49

It may not be as far

fetched as it sounds.

0:19:490:19:52

Scientists at Reading University

have found cooking in fat

0:19:520:19:54

might just be help.

0:19:540:19:55

As Asad Ahmad explains.

0:19:550:19:59

We don't really need an excuse

to eat more fish and chips.

0:19:590:20:02

But it is always good

to have one and you

0:20:020:20:05

won't find a better

excuse than this.

0:20:050:20:08

Chips can prevent global warming,

so that has got to be a

0:20:080:20:11

good thing.

0:20:110:20:12

OK, maybe he is exaggerating

slightly, but the

0:20:120:20:14

principle of what the chip man

is saying could be true.

0:20:140:20:17

How?

0:20:170:20:18

Scientists at the University

of Reading were studying the climate

0:20:180:20:21

when they started to look at the

impact of cooking fats in the air

0:20:210:20:24

and this is the science bit.

0:20:240:20:29

These molecules that

are emitted in large

0:20:290:20:31

quantities in urban areas, they make

it easier for clouds to form.

0:20:310:20:36

Clouds have a massive

impact on climate

0:20:360:20:37

change because clouds generally

are believed to cool.

0:20:370:20:41

If you had more clouds,

it could potentially lead to

0:20:410:20:43

increased cooling.

0:20:430:20:49

So a lower temperature.

0:20:490:20:50

OK, just to break that scientific

explanation down further,

0:20:500:20:52

what the doctor is

effectively saying is this.

0:20:520:20:55

When you deep fat fry,

tiny molecules of fat go up

0:20:550:20:58

in the atmosphere.

0:20:580:21:00

As they rise, they stay

there for some time and

0:21:000:21:07

while there, they thicken cloud and

that has the effect of keeping more

0:21:070:21:10

of the sun rays away

from us and therefore

0:21:100:21:13

cooling the temperature,

helping global cooling.

0:21:130:21:19

And nobody is happier than those in

the local chip shop.

0:21:190:21:22

But they say they have been

doing their bit for some time.

0:21:220:21:24

We recycle oil.

0:21:250:21:34

The crispy bits, the batter,

we get, we recycle

0:21:350:21:37

them into oil to be

used again, so none

0:21:370:21:39

of it is going to waste

and we

0:21:390:21:41

made a conscious effort to cut

down on plastic items.

0:21:410:21:44

We have changed a lot

of our things to cardboard.

0:21:440:21:46

So we have always

been quite conscious

0:21:460:21:48

about the effect on the environment.

0:21:480:21:49

So chip shops could argue they now

have a new eco-status, doing their

0:21:490:21:52

bit for the planet, trying to stop

icecaps from melting.

0:21:520:21:55

But even the scientists

at Reading University are

0:21:550:21:57

the first to say a lot more

research needs to be done.

0:21:570:21:59

Now to the man who has sold 150

million records across the world.

0:21:590:22:04

He's Arnold Dorsey to his

friends and family,

0:22:040:22:05

but to us he's Engelbert

Humperdinck.

0:22:050:22:07

At the age of 81, he's still touring

and has a new album.

0:22:070:22:10

Wendy Hurrell has been talking

to him about his how his music

0:22:100:22:13

is helping his wife,

who has Alzheimers.

0:22:130:22:18

# Please release me...#.

0:22:180:22:28

The song that kept the Beatles off

the top spot in 1967 and launched

0:22:280:22:32

a half-century career.

0:22:320:22:36

I'm so thrilled that one song has

given me that passport to the world.

0:22:360:22:40

Now Engelbert Humperdinck has

produced a new album of covers.

0:22:400:22:49

One by Bruno Mars.

0:22:490:22:54

This is the first time they met.

I

told him he would become a big star

0:22:540:23:00

and he became a megastar.

0:23:000:23:02

The album is dedicated

to his wife of 53 years.

0:23:020:23:04

Patricia was diagnosed

with Alzheimer's a decade ago.

0:23:040:23:06

Just Like The First Time

was written especially for her.

0:23:060:23:15

The duet I'm Glad I Danced With You,

a lot of the songs depict exactly

0:23:150:23:19

what a man thinks about his better

half, you know?

0:23:190:23:25

I met her in a dance hall

when she was 17 years old,

0:23:250:23:28

and we have been dancing

together ever since.

0:23:280:23:31

# I'm glad I danced with you #.

0:23:310:23:39

She listens to the album every day!

0:23:390:23:41

Does she?

0:23:410:23:44

Yes, she listens to it every

morning and there's a smile

0:23:440:23:46

on her face when she hears it.

0:23:460:23:48

She's not totally compos mentis

but she's beginning to understand

0:23:480:23:53

more now and I think musically

it is great therapy for her

0:23:530:23:58

because it brings back the past.

0:23:580:24:02

And it's wonderful,

and she's learning to talk

0:24:020:24:04

a bit more now again.

0:24:040:24:08

It's just wonderful, wonderful.

0:24:080:24:10

The progress, it's not supposed

to happen but it's happening

0:24:100:24:12

and I think it's a miracle.

0:24:120:24:16

Time to get a check on the weather

with weather with Darren Bett.

0:24:190:24:21

The sunshine made us smile today but

temperatures are taking a downward

0:24:280:24:31

trend over the next few days. 15

degrees was our top temperature

0:24:310:24:37

today, and tomorrow the temperatures

will be lower so it is turning

0:24:370:24:41

colder. But the winds will be

lighter as well, probably getting

0:24:410:24:44

off to quite a cloudy start because

there is some rain on the way

0:24:440:24:48

overnight to head our way as well.

Today we have been sort of in

0:24:480:24:53

between rain. We had the early

bursts of rain, gusty winds clearing

0:24:530:24:57

away, then we have been waiting for

these showers to come our way but

0:24:570:25:01

they have taken a long time. It

won't take long before we see some

0:25:010:25:15

wetter weather moving across from

the west and heading across most of

0:25:170:25:19

the London area and the south-east,

but tending to clear away later on

0:25:190:25:22

in the night. It keeps temperatures

up. The following few nights will be

0:25:220:25:24

colder than that five or 6 degrees.

We should see sky brightening, some

0:25:240:25:27

sunshine at times up for the most

part I think it will be a dry day

0:25:270:25:30

with the risk of some showers in the

afternoon. Temperatures struggling

0:25:300:25:33

to make double figures, eight or 9

degrees will be typical. The chilly

0:25:330:25:39

day, but that means that where we

have the clear skies overnight

0:25:390:25:42

tomorrow night and into the start of

the weekend it will be called. We

0:25:420:25:46

are looking at a touch of frost away

from the centre of London. Those

0:25:460:25:51

temperatures won't be far away from

freezing. A cold start of the

0:25:510:25:56

weekend but a bright start. The

winds will pick up on Saturday so it

0:25:560:26:00

will feel colder with the winds

strengthening. And so those

0:26:000:26:06

temperatures again falling away, not

as warm. It will be colder, six or 7

0:26:060:26:11

degrees. Into cold air right the way

through the weekend. Briefly we get

0:26:110:26:17

orange, this is milder air, not the

drink all fruit and it could be

0:26:170:26:21

accompanied by rain. That will be on

the first half of Monday, then the

0:26:210:26:27

cold air is set to return.

0:26:270:26:30

Darren, thank you. Recapping

headlines before we go...

0:26:330:26:38

The Institute for Fiscal Studies

warns the UK is in danger

0:26:380:26:40

of losing almost 20 years

of growth in earnings.

0:26:400:26:43

It says the squeeze on living

standards in the past ten

0:26:430:26:45

years is unprecedented.

0:26:450:26:46

Dozens of people had to be rescued

from their homes in parts of Cumbria

0:26:460:26:50

and Lancashire last night

after heavy rainfall

0:26:500:26:51

caused flooding.

0:26:510:26:52

More than 70 people

were helped to safety.

0:26:520:26:54

The physical and mental health

of around 15,000 former

0:26:540:26:56

professional footballers

is going to be studied

0:26:560:26:58

by researchers who are trying

to determine the long-term impact

0:26:580:27:00

of heading a football.

0:27:010:27:06

The Met Police is offering

a £10,000 reward

0:27:060:27:08

for information about the killers

of Danny Pearce, who was killed

0:27:080:27:11

in Greenwich in July while being

robbed of his Rolex watch.

0:27:110:27:16

And the Mayor's accused

the Government of abandoning

0:27:160:27:18

Londoners affected by air pollution.

0:27:180:27:21

Sadiq Khan described it

as "a scandal" that the capital

0:27:210:27:24

won't be eligible for

the new Clean Air Fund.
