Hundreds of thousands are expected

in the Capital for this year's

New Year Eve celebrations,

which is why the Met has confirmed

today there will be additional

armed police to the usual

numbers on patrol.

More dog units and vehicle

barriers are expected too.

The enhanced security comes

after a review following this

year's terror attacks.

With the latest let's

Yes, Alex, this is where hundreds of

thousands of people

Yes, Alex, this is where hundreds of

thousands of people will be heading

over the next few days, to watch the

12 minute firework display which

will be set off from a number of

barges on the river Thames and

surrounding the London Eye. We have

seen a number of preparation is

getting underway, sound systems are

being erected and barriers put up

but this isn't just a huge operation

for event organisers but a huge

operation for Security and emergency

services, they've been planning for

months. London has seen four major

terror attacks this year, including

one here on Westminster Bridge when

a vehicle ploughed into a number of

pedestrians, injuring 50 and Kevin

four others, before a police officer

was stabbed to death. People heading

to New Year 's celebrations have

been warned they will see extra

officers. Armed officers will be

down here, there will be sniffer

dogs and bag checks in place. Early

on I spoke to make old worth from

the Metropolitan Police who told me

about the operation they have plans

We are maintaining a proportionate

response to what we perceive

the threat to be.

Across London, there

will be several thousand

police officers on duty,

as normal, of which a

significant number will be

here in central London.

They are going to be led by a very,

very experienced command team

and have a multitude

of resources working alongside.

The reason we are doing

that is simply so that people feel

reassured and that we keep them safe

when they come into central London.

Police do say that they have no

intelligence they planned terror

attack this year.

But they are

warning that it's going to be

extremely busy around here. What

they are saying to people coming to

the event is to only come if you

have tickets, give yourself extra

time because there will be extra

security checks in place but, most

importantly, have a good. Alex?

Elsewhere, the East of England

Ambulance Service say resources

are in place to cope

with the expected rise

in demand at New Year.

It's been the busiest ever recorded

Christmas for the service that

covers Hertfordshire,

Essex and Luton.

Paramedics have been dealing

with seasonal illnesses,

busy roads and the cold weather.

We will cope well.

We have planned for it

and we have very, very good

staff who will go the extra mile,

and we are working closely with NHS

partners and police to ensure

the best service we can provide.

Police investigating the murder

of a young woman found dead

in Finsbury Park in north London say

she died after being

stabbed in the stomach.

The body of Yuliana Tudos

was found in a building

by the sports ground in the middle

of the park on Wednesday.

Detectives believe the 22 -year-old

who worked as a barmaid in Camden

may have been killed on Christmas

Eve.

Just before we go -

there is a weather warning

in place for the South East.

Parts of Surrey have been submerged.

As you can see from these pictures.

A bridge near the junction

of Crowhurst Lane End

and Tandridge Lane, just outside

Oxted has been flooded

for the last couple of days.

And a lorry overturned

following a crash on the M25

between Junction 9 and Junction 8.

Staying with the bad weather -

Hello, good afternoon.

It was a most unpleasant

start of the day.

Very wet and windy.

But, that main rain band

has now cleared its way

eastwards, so for the rest of

the afternoon we are talking about

bright and sunny spells

but also some showers.

Some of those could turn out

to be heavy and even

thundery.

We could all catch one at times

as we head through to the end

Still quite windy,

particularly gusty where we get

those showers.

Top temperatures milder,

six or seven Celsius, but

not unpleasant in brighter spells.

Overnight tonight, it's right

for the first half of the night.

Temperatures falling away but then

we have another band of rain pushing

in from the south-west.

Still hanging around

north-eastern areas

as we head into tomorrow morning, it

drags in some milder air so we begin

the day on about 10 degrees.

Tomorrow it feels mild,

and it should brighten up nicely.

Still breezy, the

westerly wind feeling

brisk.

More cloud around towards the end

of the day, one or two showers

towards the south but otherwise dry

and highs of 12 or 13 degrees.

There is more rain coming our way

on Saturday, a wet and windy night.

Possibly more showers around

for much of the day on Sunday but

hopefully dry for the evening of

New Year's Eve, generally mild and

unsettled as we head

into the New Year.
