Eddie Jones, about to win the Six Nations again with England. Much

:00:00.:00:00.

more on that to come throughout the evening and the rest of the news on

:00:00.:00:08.

the BBC News Channel. I will be back with the late news on BBC One at

:00:09.:00:13.

10pm but now it is time for the news where you are.

:00:14.:00:21.

Good evening - and welcome to BBC London News.

:00:22.:00:23.

A minute's silence has been held for an amateur rugby player

:00:24.:00:31.

who died after collapsing on the pitch in Surrey a week ago.

:00:32.:00:33.

Fellow players tried desperately to resuscitate Shawnton de four

:00:34.:00:36.

at the Old Emanuel club in New Malden - but he died

:00:37.:00:39.

His friends are trying to raise money to support his wife -

:00:40.:00:42.

A minute's silence, respect and memories

:00:43.:00:46.

a week on for the beloved team-mate who died at the club

:00:47.:00:49.

he loved playing for playing the game he adored.

:00:50.:00:51.

Shawnton de Four was just 34 when he collapsed

:00:52.:00:53.

and died on the field here

:00:54.:01:01.

His team-mates did everything they could to resuscitate him.

:01:02.:01:05.

The cause of his death is still not known.

:01:06.:01:07.

Shawnton was a wonderful man and a great friend

:01:08.:01:10.

He was one of those all-round people in the

:01:11.:01:13.

club that everyone loves, and soon as you meet

:01:14.:01:15.

him you want to get to

:01:16.:01:16.

as it was the winning point for a final.

:01:17.:01:22.

You would not want him running at you and you were always

:01:23.:01:25.

very grateful that he was on your side.

:01:26.:01:27.

A web page has been set up by the club to raise money for his wife

:01:28.:01:31.

and 18-month-old twins, and for people to share their memories.

:01:32.:01:33.

Leave messages on their for Susie and the twins so that in the future

:01:34.:01:37.

they've got something they can read how loved he was, and his friends

:01:38.:01:40.

There is a lovely quote on there about him

:01:41.:01:44.

strongest rum, he ate the most chicken, he played hard on the pitch

:01:45.:01:49.

and he was a lovely man and we are all going to miss him."

:01:50.:01:52.

?30,000 has already been raised in memory of the

:01:53.:01:54.

Wimbledon engineer and many memories recorded for his children to know

:01:55.:01:57.

what his team-mates called "the lion of a man" who was their father.

:01:58.:02:00.

Sarah Harris, BBC London News, Surrey.

:02:01.:02:05.

A couple who are raising money for their seriously ill baby son

:02:06.:02:08.

to get treatment in America have been given ?20,000

:02:09.:02:10.

Specialists at Great Ormond Street Hospital believe it would be best

:02:11.:02:14.

to stop providing life-support treatment to seven

:02:15.:02:19.

But Charlie's parents want to be allowed to take him

:02:20.:02:22.

A teacher in south London has been praised by his students -

:02:23.:02:27.

after revealing he was gay in a school assembly.

:02:28.:02:29.

Daniel Gray had been bullied over his sexuality

:02:30.:02:31.

when he was a pupil - but made the decision to 'come out'

:02:32.:02:35.

to all his students - to show them there was nothing

:02:36.:02:37.

He's been explaining why he felt it was so important.

:02:38.:02:48.

This assembly hall was packed with students having their usual daily

:02:49.:02:51.

On the big screen there was a video of me showing talking

:02:52.:02:56.

of the video I came out to my students.

:02:57.:03:00.

The build-up was very nerve-racking, was very tense.

:03:01.:03:02.

As a gay man I know how important it is

:03:03.:03:04.

to grow up with positive role models who can

:03:05.:03:06.

support you, understand you

:03:07.:03:07.

and help you see that it gets better.

:03:08.:03:16.

That's why we've set up the LGBT Culture Club.

:03:17.:03:18.

There were some shrugs, there were some smiles, a

:03:19.:03:20.

couple of mouths fell open, but generally the reaction

:03:21.:03:22.

was rather muted and it was only after the

:03:23.:03:24.

assembly that the reaction became stronger and so much more positive.

:03:25.:03:31.

I remember sitting in the assembly going, oh my God, he's just come out

:03:32.:03:34.

But I honestly think we are the most accepting

:03:35.:03:39.

I was quite shocked first of all but he's actually came out in

:03:40.:03:46.

confidence and I thought that was really quite fantastic.

:03:47.:03:48.

Everyone was talking about it but everyone

:03:49.:03:50.

It's a good feeling to know that someone

:03:51.:03:55.

else is different and they're OK with it.

:03:56.:03:57.

Because I had such a horrendous experience at school it's

:03:58.:04:02.

been really important to me to come out of the students because I think

:04:03.:04:06.

I want to be the role model that I never had.

:04:07.:04:09.

My secondary school experience in Basingstoke, I was

:04:10.:04:11.

bullied every single day for being gay.

:04:12.:04:12.

They used to call me names, they used to

:04:13.:04:19.

push me around in corridors, all kinds of things, and I was upset

:04:20.:04:22.

But where I am now schools know how to deal with it.

:04:23.:04:28.

Our job as teachers is not just about

:04:29.:04:30.

curriculum, curriculum, curriculum, it's about building young people

:04:31.:04:32.

And that's why I've done it and I hope other teachers will see

:04:33.:04:39.

Daniel Gray there are. Now a quick look at tomorrow's whether.

:04:40.:04:52.

Dull and wet - we're going to have rain for much of the day,

:04:53.:04:56.

heavy at times, feeling much cooler too, with a top

:04:57.:04:58.

That's it from us - we'll be back tomorrow though

:04:59.:05:03.

Good evening. Some of us managed to get some decent weather today, not

:05:04.:05:21.

everybody but some of us. Lovely picture from a weather watcher in

:05:22.:05:25.

Northern Ireland, Enniskillen, and in Northern Ireland we have the

:05:26.:05:29.

warmest day of the year for Northern Ireland, 16 Celsius. The Southeast a

:05:30.:05:34.

little warmer weather cloud broke up, 18 Celsius, but we have also had

:05:35.:05:38.

some light rain, and

:05:39.:05:39.
