we are back with the late news at ten o'clock.

:00:00.:00:00.

Now on BBC one, it's time for the news where you are.

:00:00.:00:07.

Good evening, I'm Claudia-Liza Armah.

:00:08.:00:16.

One of the capital's top Universities is reviewing

:00:17.:00:17.

its procedures for tackling anti-semitism, after a spike

:00:18.:00:19.

in reported incidents involving students across

:00:20.:00:21.

SOAS - The School of Oriental and African Studies -

:00:22.:00:24.

is currently investigating claims two of ITS students were targeted

:00:25.:00:27.

When does a healthy campus debate turn into something more serious?

:00:28.:00:43.

At University College London they are wrestling with this issue

:00:44.:00:45.

as the contentious Israel apartheid week draws to a close,

:00:46.:00:48.

here and at dozens of academic institutions.

:00:49.:00:54.

We expect them to have robust policy and procedures in place

:00:55.:00:56.

to comply with the law, to investigate and swiftly address

:00:57.:00:59.

hate crime, including any anti-Semitic incidents

:01:00.:01:00.

Back in October, things got really out of hand here.

:01:01.:01:10.

The university's Friends of Israel group organised a talk

:01:11.:01:12.

from a former Israeli soldier, but didn't follow

:01:13.:01:14.

The university rejected their application, but changed their mind

:01:15.:01:17.

at the last moment on appeal, causing Palestinian supporters

:01:18.:01:20.

to accuse the University of double standards,

:01:21.:01:22.

Things got very heated, the police were called,

:01:23.:01:31.

but there were no arrests and no reports of serious violence.

:01:32.:01:34.

However, UCL's official report into the event found that:

:01:35.:01:55.

Anti-Semitism has been in the spotlight amid a reported 30%

:01:56.:01:57.

year on year increase in incidents nationally,

:01:58.:01:59.

and a doubling of incidents involving students or academics.

:02:00.:02:01.

This woman said she and her friend were targeted

:02:02.:02:03.

Two guys came to us and they tried to do something to my friend's

:02:04.:02:13.

phone, so I like stepped in the middle, between them,

:02:14.:02:17.

and the same guy, he went round me, he took my flag, my Israeli flag

:02:18.:02:20.

I wasn't provoking, it was inside my bag,

:02:21.:02:25.

and he just like, took it out, and my friend was "How dare you take

:02:26.:02:29.

They started to, like, there was almost violence,

:02:30.:02:34.

they started to walk into each other.

:02:35.:02:36.

One of the things I have agreed with the Union of Jewish Students

:02:37.:02:39.

but also with our SOAS society, is that we will review our

:02:40.:02:42.

procedures, but also do a lot more signposting,

:02:43.:02:44.

so that people who feel that there is a concern

:02:45.:02:46.

Five men have been arrested on suspicion of murder

:02:47.:02:58.

after the death of a man from stab wounds near Chelmsford.

:02:59.:03:01.

Officers were called to a property at

:03:02.:03:02.

Rettendon Common just before midnight last night and found

:03:03.:03:05.

a 19-year-old man suffering from stab wounds.

:03:06.:03:10.

This is one-year-old Sophia Elia-Schenka.

:03:11.:03:11.

To look at she's like any other toddler, but she has a rare

:03:12.:03:15.

And where life expectancy in most cases is just two years.

:03:16.:03:18.

Her parents, from Loughton, are now desperately trying to raise

:03:19.:03:21.

money for her treatment and boost public awareness

:03:22.:03:23.

of the condition, so other families won't have to face

:03:24.:03:25.

Like most 18 month olds, Sofia loves to play with her toys

:03:26.:03:31.

and read her books, but for her these things aren't

:03:32.:03:34.

easy, because she has spinal muscular atrophy type one,

:03:35.:03:36.

So her muscles don't get messages from the motor neurons,

:03:37.:03:51.

so they don't know to work and therefore they waste away.

:03:52.:03:55.

Though few people will have heard of the condition,

:03:56.:03:57.

it is the most common inherited cause of death in infants.

:03:58.:04:00.

And in 95% of case, life expectancy is under two years old.

:04:01.:04:03.

Yet despite its severity, Sofia's parents Victoria and Gee

:04:04.:04:05.

have struggled to access the treatment and

:04:06.:04:07.

We went and we started talking to the NHS about getting it

:04:08.:04:21.

At that time she was already close to one-and-a-half.

:04:22.:04:26.

Victoria and Gee told us that the NHS said they weren't

:04:27.:04:30.

eligible for a wheelchair because they live up a very

:04:31.:04:32.

narrow flight of stairs, and there is nowhere

:04:33.:04:34.

here on the ground floor for an electric wheelchair

:04:35.:04:36.

It's the most difficult thing to have to watch

:04:37.:04:44.

your child struggling with the simplest of tasks.

:04:45.:04:46.

She can't turn a page of a book, she can't pick up

:04:47.:04:48.

We contacted their local NHS, who said they do offer a range

:04:49.:04:56.

of services for children with life limiting conditions,

:04:57.:04:57.

and Epping Forest Council claimed they are trying to help,

:04:58.:05:00.

in spite of a shortage of social housing.

:05:01.:05:10.

Now a look at the weather with Lucy Martin.

:05:11.:05:13.

A fairly cloudy and damp end to the weekend, but as we move

:05:14.:05:17.

into the working week, we are going to return

:05:18.:05:19.

to something that bit brighter, some sunshine on the way.

:05:20.:05:21.

So if we put the detail on to the map then, that band

:05:22.:05:27.

of rain finally clearing as we move through this evening and overnight.

:05:28.:05:30.

Some clearer spells into the early hours, overnight lows

:05:31.:05:32.

of between three and seven degrees Celsius.

:05:33.:05:35.

So a chilly start to the day tomorrow, some cloud round first

:05:36.:05:38.

thing, but brightening up as we move through the morning.

:05:39.:05:40.

Mmaximum temperature 16 degrees Celsius, so feeling

:05:41.:05:42.

We are staying mild as we move through the first part of the week,

:05:43.:05:48.

but it will turn increasingly cloudy.

:05:49.:05:50.

Hello, the weather was hit-and-miss today across the UK, bit of

:05:51.:06:15.

sunshine, a few spots of rain, the skies are clearing now, particularly

:06:16.:06:19.

in western area, and unlike the last few nights, this coming night, it is

:06:20.:06:22.

going to turn chilly, there is a touch of frost on the way, these are

:06:23.:06:26.

clouds from today. Some of it rain bearing, this gap in the weather,

:06:27.:06:29.

that is going to be over the UK, during the course of the night so

:06:30.:06:32.

hence the temperatures will dip away.

:06:33.:06:34.
