A father has been left with life-changing injuries

after a family had acid thrown at them in North London.

The 40-year-old and his wife and two-year-old son

were attacked in broad daylight in Islington yesterday.

Police are appealing for witnesses.

This is the spot behind me where the attack happened.

This is a busy London street, lots of families around.

Just behind us here, there's a children's playpark.

Yesterday lunchtime, at about 1pm, a family was walking here,

a 40-year-old man, his 36-year-old wife and their young son,

just a toddler, two years old.

Police said they were attacked by someone armed

with an acid substance.

It was thrown on them.

The child and woman suffered minor chemical burns,

but the man suffered much worse chemical burns, to his

hands and his face.

Police have described his injuries as life-changing.

All three victims were treated here at the scene by paramedics,

and also by firefighters, who we understand poured

water onto their faces to try to cool the burns down.

These types of incidents are on the increase.

There were 450 last year in London, double the number

from the previous year.

It is too early to say what happened in this incident in which a family

was attacked in broad daylight by someone armed with acid.

Police are appealing for witnesses, but have not

made any arrests as yet.

The two fatal victims of yesterday's care-home fire in Hertfordshire have

been identified as elderly women, a 91-year-old and an 89-year-old.

The blaze broke out at the Newgrange Care Home in Cheshunt.

33 people were rescued, three are still being treated in hospital.

Investigations are continuing into the cause of the fire.

Disabled patients going to two hospitals in Surrey are going to be

charged to park from next month.

Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals Trust, which charges

?3.50 for two hours, says it needs to raise

income to "maintain and protect patient care".

But campaigners say it's going to be a huge burden

for disabled patients.

Hugh had a diving accident in his 20s.

Ever since, he has spent thousands modifying his home

and on 24-hour care.

One thing he usually gets for free is parking.

But not at his local hospital from next month.

I was angry.

It just frustrates me that disabled people are going to have to pay

when we already pay a lot of extra expenses.

I have a huge list of expenses caused by my disability.

I thought this was just one that...

No, no.

The trust says there will be exemptions for some

patients if eligible, but it hopes charging blue-badge

holders will raise ?140,000 a year.

In a statement, the trust told us this decision had

not been made lightly.

It said it had to raise income to protect patient care.

It said these plans were considered two and a half years ago.

They were dropped.

But it has had to do so now because the financial climate

is significantly more challenging.

It is fair enough.

I am disabled, everybody has to pay their way.

We are in poor times.

We would have to sell the car to pay for the parking after a few months.

Parking is free for badge holders at most hospitals,

but these hospitals all charge disabled drivers to park.

From May 1st, so will Ashford and St Peter's.

There is a petition to try to stop the plans.

Not everybody is a wealthy blue-badge holder.

There are some people that have said that this will be

a financial burden on them.

In a time when hospitals are facing financial pressures as well,

it seems inevitable that the choices they make may be unpopular.

Today's temperatures in the mid-20s Celsius something of a distant

memory in the coming days as it will be much cooler from tomorrow,

although predominantly dry

as we head towards the bank holiday weekend.

We start dry with some good sunshine in the morning but then we get

a north-westerly wind setting in and some cloud

bubbling up as we go through the afternoon.

Look at the spread in temperatures, down ten or more degree

to what we saw today.

In the coming days it is predominantly dry.

There will be some cloud around at times and some sunny spells too.

Not too bad in those.
