drier. Things will be feeling warm and looking dry with high pressure

London News, I'm Sonja Jessup. The Liberal Democrats say

they are the only major party in the capital who will fight plans

to build a third runway Both Labour and the Conservatives

are backing expansion. But how important is the issue

to voters - and will it be Our Transport Correspondent,

Tom Edwards, reports. They are coming back

and they are taking the villages the way they wanted

to the first time round... At this recent meeting

it was very clear that Heathrow expansion split opinion,

communities, and political parties. The main issue in these elections,

in my opinion, will be Brexit. But it wouldn't be too

far off from Brexit. It's just going to be one issue

that I'm thinking about, not the main one, I guess,

but it is an important one Well it would be a case

of if people were trying I wouldn't be keen to vote for that

party or that candidate. Many businesses want

a third runway for jobs. It's also been used to show

that the UK is open The Conservatives say they will push

ahead with expansion of Heathrow. Some senior members in both parties

oppose another runway. A third runway, I think,

would do all sorts of damage in terms of noise pollution,

which we can hear now, and above all, of air

pollution, as well. -- I don't think it has been

properly thought through. I don't think any government

is going to be able to withstand public opinion on this matter

because whatever happens in the general election the real

issue is going to be debated. Aviation expansion has perplexed

politicians for decades. Recommendations and commissions have

come and gone, but no new full-length runway has been laid

in the south-east since the 1940s. And today the Liberal Democrats

reaffirmed their continue -- And today the Liberal Democrats

reaffirmed they'll continue The residents, and there are very

many millions of them who live under the flight path,

who are going to be affected by a third runway, will not

want to, in my view, politicians to simply

throw their hands up in the air and say, oh,

it's too difficult, it agreed. We will continue to

campaign against it. Experts say Heathrow expansion

is being overshadowed. It is seen as an issue

of sending a signal I think whoever wins the election,

certainly if it is Conservatives or Labour, they will want to send

out that signal of Britain Heathrow Airport says

expansion will lose trade. Some local council say the

environmental costs are too high. Whatever happens on election day

those arguments will not stop. -- Heathrow Airport says

expansion will boost trade. And Tom joins me now -

so where does this leave the whole It feels like we have come full

circle with the Conservatives and Labour. They both know what to

expand Heathrow. But I don't think it's the end of the debate. It could

just be moving into another phase. I've spoken to some anti-expansion

campaigners today. They want to fight on. They say politics can

change quickly. Interestingly they now want tough legally binding

conditions attached to the project, particularly around noise, night

flights, pollution, and air quality is a key issue now. Residents will

get the best possible deal. This is a long way from being over. Plenty

of political battles ahead. Thank you.
