This year's Notting Hill Carnival has opened with tributes

to the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire.

London's Mayor, Sadiq Khan, urged the crowds to keep their thoughts

and prayers with those who lost their lives.

He also met with survivors and faith leaders.

The sun was out and so were the Carnival kings and Queens.

Family day at Notting Hill drew the crowds.

Great fun, first time we've ever been and I love it.

Amazing, it's the best part of the year.

Everyone just getting together, a party, it's nice.

But in the distance, a tragic reminder of the suffering

Earlier in the day, a flock of doves were released in remembrance

of those who lost their lives in the Grenfell fire.

The Mayor Sadiq Khan joy and religious leaders in prayer.

We've had horrific events ten weeks ago at Grenfell Tower.

This is a community still grieving, sad and sorrowful but it's important

to recognise that many families of the victims of the community work

We honour the victims, we will redouble our efforts

We want a safe and successful Carnival.

Carnival organisers have encouraged people coming here today to wear

or accessorize in green for Grenfell as a mark of respect

among the partying. Many survivors of the fire

It's lovely that so many of them came.

A lot of them have not been to the Carnival before and they got

a ringside seat and they are having a lovely time.

The police presence was the heaviest it has been because of fears

A protective ring of steel was placed around the Carnival route.

But it didn't seem to dampen spirits.

It was really fun and exciting, everyone having a good time.

It is really amazing, I did not think it was child

This part of west London is still in mourning for those

who died in the fire ten weeks ago but today's event proved

that the community spirit here and a determination to honour

Essex County Council says more than 1,000 calls have been made

to a hotline set up for school staff who didn't get paid.

Because of an error, 20,000 teachers and support staff,

who should have received their monthly salary

on Friday, won't get paid until Tuesday.

The council's now carrying out a "full audit"

It says it's made 100 emergency payments to staff

Rail passengers travelling this bank holiday weekend have been coping

with major disruption at six main stations in and out of London.

Network Rail is carrying out its biggest ever engineering

project involving 17,000 staff, costing ?133 million.

It's seen the closure of Euston and severe disruption

But some services return to nomal tomorrow.

Until next Saturday, the 2nd of September,

there are no Southeastern services to or from London Bridge,

For the Southeastern services that ARE running,

they're diverted to other London stations, so Victoria,

Cannon Street and Waterloo will be much busier.

And at Liverpool Street, due to Crossrail work, there are

no trains to and from Shenfield, Ingatestone, Billericay

Network Rail say the end is in sight at London Bridge.

This is getting to the end of the Thamesling programme, the rebuilding

of London Bridge station. This is a critical stage for us, it brings

another platform into use at London Bridge and gets us ready for the big

final commissioning at Christmas. That takes us to a check on the

weather. Blue skies look to last into bank

holiday Monday and it could get a touch warmer. Overnight lows around

15, 16. Tomorrow plenty of sunshine around

from the word go. We could see fair weather cloud but it won't spoil

anything. Feeling hot, highs around 28 or 29. But it looks like it'll

turn fresher through the week. We are back tomorrow morning
