That's all from the BBC News at Six, so it's goodbye from me | :00:00. | :00:00.
Hello and welcome to Look East with David and me. | :00:00. | :00:00.
The headlines tonight from Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk: | :00:00. | :00:07.
On the right tracks, rail operator C2C is rewarded with | :00:08. | :00:10.
a 15 year deal after transforming the so`called Misery Line. | :00:11. | :00:12.
More upheaval for the elderly as care home giant Care UK pulls out | :00:13. | :00:14.
As you can see, for these football fans it's not all | :00:15. | :00:18.
Don't miss my interview with Suffolk star Ed Sheeran as he gets ready | :00:19. | :00:22.

Don't miss my interview with Suffolk star Ed Sheeran as he gets ready | :00:32. | :00:37.
It's a bit daunting to be following somebody like Dolly Parton but | :00:38. | :00:52.
hopefully some of the fans stick around! | :00:53. | :00:58.
Frustrated commuters used to call it the Misery Line. | :00:59. | :01:01.
Today the company which runs it was handed a 15 year deal in recognition | :01:02. | :01:04.
The line runs between Southend and Fenchurch Street Station | :01:05. | :01:09.
in London and it is one of the region's busiest commuter routes. | :01:10. | :01:12.
Since 1996 the service has been operated by C2C. | :01:13. | :01:16.
The parent company is National Express. | :01:17. | :01:19.
Today their franchise was extended through to 2029. | :01:20. | :01:23.
The new deal will see 17 new trains with 4800 extra seats. | :01:24. | :01:29.
?30 million will be spent on improving stations and there will | :01:30. | :01:33.
but the London to Southend route has improved and | :01:34. | :01:48.
the current operator, C2C, was rewarded with a 15 year franchise. | :01:49. | :01:53.
I've been travelling on it for probably 13 years and they have | :01:54. | :01:59.
upgraded the trains and it has been Good news. | :02:00. | :02:03.
I remember the old on this line and they are so much | :02:04. | :02:10.
better and punctuality the government will get ?2 billion | :02:11. | :02:16.
in franchise payments. get ?160 million in improvements, | :02:17. | :02:21.
including free Wi`Fi. There are 70 new trains | :02:22. | :02:26.
and will provide 25,000 new seats of the morning peak | :02:27. | :02:29.
which is great news for people travelling at that time of day. | :02:30. | :02:36.
A key part of this franchise is a new compensation scheme so | :02:37. | :02:40.
if you are a passenger that has a smart card, you will get | :02:41. | :02:45.
automatic compensation if your train is more than two minutes late. | :02:46. | :02:47.
About 3p every minute. It won't be introduced until 20 6 | :02:48. | :02:51.
but this could have reverberations right across this industry. | :02:52. | :02:58.
As is the case on other operators, travellers will also get a full | :02:59. | :02:59.
refund after a delay of one hour. Most commuters will think f`res are | :03:00. | :03:06.
still too high but passenger groups have welcomed | :03:07. | :03:13.
automatic compensation. C2C does have a pretty good level | :03:14. | :03:19.
of punctuality as a rule. It has its problems days | :03:20. | :03:22.
like everybody but this is almost like putting | :03:23. | :03:28.
your money where your mouth is. We are | :03:29. | :03:33.
it up with a financial promise. Unions say this is too | :03:34. | :03:41.
franchise but some of the changes here could influence | :03:42. | :03:44.
Why such a long franchise and will it make a difference? What is the | :03:45. | :03:53.
thinking behind this? Trying to improve rail services is ond of the | :03:54. | :04:01.
main aims of this government. One, because it believes if we c`n get | :04:02. | :04:05.
around easier, that is good for the economy. Two, | :04:06. | :04:12.
with voters who for years have had to injure a | :04:13. | :04:19.
starting to see these mega` franchise deals, | :04:20. | :04:29.
ten or 15 years as opposed to the five years normally, they will | :04:30. | :04:41.
have already started to see it. We saw last | :04:42. | :04:54.
said, give it to us and we will put in more investment. Another | :04:55. | :05:05.
seven and 15 years. We will find out later this year. As | :05:06. | :05:21.

James Attfield was stabbed to death in Lower Castle Park in March. | :05:39. | :05:39.
Senior detectives say they have to respond to public concerns. | :05:40. | :05:42.
Armed police units were deployed in the centre of Norwich this `fternoon | :05:43. | :05:45.
following reports that a man may have been carrying a weapon. | :05:46. | :05:48.
Officers were deployed around the city centre. | :05:49. | :05:49.
The man was found but he was not arrested. | :05:50. | :05:52.
The police helicopter was also used and officers say there was | :05:53. | :05:54.
A major home care provider has had one of its contracts in Norfolk | :05:55. | :06:00.
Care UK took over the daycare of more than 200 people in | :06:01. | :06:04.
Now following a series of problems and warnings | :06:05. | :06:10.
from the county council, it has agreed to have the contracts back. | :06:11. | :06:14.
At home with his wife, Betty, 80`year`old Neville, | :06:15. | :06:21.
who suffered a stroke a year ago. 30 minutes of care twice`dahly | :06:22. | :06:24.
30 minutes of care twice`daily has been provided by Care UK. | :06:25. | :06:28.
He rates the individual cardrs but not the company who havd now | :06:29. | :06:33.
agreed to hand the contract back. I wonder what took so long, | :06:34. | :06:38.
to organised very well? | :06:39. | :06:42.
No, they are not. good and i am a bit worried about | :06:43. | :06:49.
what let us down a few times so perhaps | :06:50. | :07:00.
another company would be better. was one of 100 people to complain | :07:01. | :07:11.
about the quality of servicd. It's got a lot better since then? | :07:12. | :07:22.
For me, yes, I cannot so Care UK can focus its efforts in | :07:23. | :07:34.
Great Yarmouth and North Norfolk. Our concern was that | :07:35. | :07:50.
if Care it's a social enterprise, it is run | :07:51. | :08:02.
in the John Lewis style so carers so much better than | :08:03. | :08:13.
the largely impersonal agency. short of the standards expected | :08:14. | :08:26.
it won't hesitate to Let's stay with the subject of | :08:27. | :08:29.
care and in particular, dementia. In Suffolk today, | :08:30. | :08:49.
they put on show a new way A care home there has creatdd its | :08:50. | :08:51.
own village green with older style It's an established fact that | :08:52. | :08:56.
if you're helping people with Helping them to reminisce which | :08:57. | :09:04.
is why this idea is so clevdr. It's called the village gredn | :09:05. | :09:10.
and it has a whole selection If you want to see it working | :09:11. | :09:12.
look at this. This was with one the manager | :09:13. | :09:18.
and one of the residents, Doreen. There's nothing to spend, I go in my | :09:19. | :09:22.
pocket and there's nothing because Doreen is in her eighties, one | :09:23. | :09:32.
of 53 residents at this famhly`run care home, all of them who use this | :09:33. | :09:43.
and have severe dementia. Absolutely, it's those magic moments | :09:44. | :09:48.
that you can reminisce and talk When I first arrived here, | :09:49. | :10:14.
I mistakenly suggested this is the kind of thing they need to keep | :10:15. | :10:28.
freshening up but of course I was wrong, it's a reminder of the | :10:29. | :10:31.
cruelty of this disease that for many people here, | :10:32. | :10:34.
every time they step through these The statistics are so huge, | :10:35. | :10:36.
something like 2 million people by 2050 in the UK so a major amount | :10:37. | :10:52.
of investment is needed and understanding into what true quality | :10:53. | :10:58.
dementia care should look lhke. Memories are at the heart | :10:59. | :11:05.
of everything. This corner resembles | :11:06. | :11:08.
a waiting room at a station. These are return journeys | :11:09. | :11:13.
of the mind. It's magical, | :11:14. | :11:17.
each time it's different A thief who stole a wallet from | :11:18. | :11:28.
a vulnerable man in Norwich has 30`year`old Damien Chapman from | :11:29. | :11:40.
King's Lynn pleaded guilty to the The victim who is in his 50s was | :11:41. | :11:45.
using a walking stick and fdll. Damien Chapman helped him up, then | :11:46. | :11:52.
snatched his wallet and ran off The police described him | :11:53. | :11:55.
as a callous thief. Still to come on the programme, my | :11:56. | :12:20.
interview with Ed Sheeran at Glastonbury. It is all over for | :12:21. | :12:27.
England but not if you are ` seller than in this Cambridge pub. | :12:28. | :12:28.
In tonight's special report, we are talking pigs. | :12:29. | :12:29.
Our region produces one in three pigs in the UK so ht is | :12:30. | :12:31.
The big talking point in the industry this week was | :12:32. | :12:35.
The new rules affect the way meat is handled in the abattoir. | :12:36. | :12:40.
It is meant to make pork safer to eat but not everyone agrees. | :12:41. | :12:47.
The meat inspectors come to call at this abattoir in Suffolk thdy | :12:48. | :12:56.
manually inspected each pig, often cutting into the carcass if they | :12:57. | :13:04.
suspect it has absences or deletions but from this month under the new | :13:05. | :13:10.
Britain's Food Standards Agency, inspectors must rely on | :13:11. | :13:16.
abscess missed, arthritic joints missed, | :13:17. | :13:21.
end up in sausages and we got one that happen. | :13:22. | :13:29.
sends 700 of his pigs to market As business picks up, the last | :13:30. | :13:37.

safety, I think it is more `bout peoples jobs being | :13:48. | :13:52.
make it harder. Stuart disagrees, at his farm shop, meat is the | :13:53. | :14:00.
carcass can you be sure that it is safe. | :14:01. | :14:09.
abscess inside the joint or something, you got | :14:10. | :14:19.
processed. Last year 37,000 were rejected | :14:20. | :14:32.
used in manufactured meat products, meat pies, pork sausages et. | :14:33. | :14:45.
If you routinely handle carcasses and fall, you are likely to spread | :14:46. | :14:55.
hazard we need to control against. There is more awareness now. Where | :14:56. | :15:03.

There are just 26 days to go before the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. | :15:08. | :15:11.
Today, the England Hockey team was announced and it contains | :15:12. | :15:13.
Ipswich duo Harry Martin and George Pinner plus Tim Whiteman who | :15:14. | :15:17.
The announcement coincided with the team receiving their kit at | :15:18. | :15:21.
This summer 's must have items if you are a sports fan, as modelled by | :15:22. | :15:41.

something I thought about when I was growing up. It's everything I hoped | :15:58. | :16:04.
for. In 26 days, it all starts in Glasgow. For Harry Martin, it's his | :16:05. | :16:11.
second Commonwealth Games. He was the youngest in the squad for years | :16:12. | :16:16.
ago. Once again, at 21, he the type but is amazingly | :16:17. | :16:21.
approaching 100 country. Still holding onto that. | :16:22. | :16:26.
Only just now! am one of the most experienced now | :16:27. | :16:33.
so I don't feel the youngest. this football but over the last few | :16:34. | :16:42.

successful Commonwealth Games. a reserve in London so this is his | :16:54. | :17:01.
big chance. I think from the World Cup where we finished | :17:02. | :17:11.
fourth. We go to Glasgow Australia. England finished fourth | :17:12. | :17:34.
first had our trial. Harry joined a couple of years | :17:35. | :17:49.
that everybody works hard together. All being well, | :17:50. | :17:56.
The group stages of the World Cup are over and | :17:57. | :17:59.
England might be out but thdre are a lot of people in this region with | :18:00. | :18:00.
The favourites, Brazil, play Chile tomorrow night. | :18:01. | :18:02.

Dolly Parton? Yes, it is a bit daunting to be following solebody | :21:18. | :21:23.
like Dolly Parton so hopefully some of her fans will stick around! Let | :21:24. | :21:29.
us talk about your album, only on sale a few days and already looking | :21:30. | :21:33.
at the fastest of the year, you surprised by that | :21:34. | :21:43.
order genial it was great? Xou can never second`guess it with second | :21:44. | :21:51.
I definitely didn't expect it to be the fastest selling of the xear | :21:52. | :21:53.
It's good. You can hear the American influences in the music compare to | :21:54. | :22:01.
your first album, is that something you definitely wanted to get across? | :22:02. | :22:06.
I don't necessarily think I meant wanted to experiment a bit more. I | :22:07. | :22:13.
was based in guess rubbed off. You don't get home | :22:14. | :22:23.
that much, I you seem to be a different place | :22:24. | :22:33.
every day. Do you enjoy that? Yes, being in Brighton and Bristol, its | :22:34. | :22:44.
Luxembourg and then I! yourself about your incredible | :22:45. | :22:52.
success. Has it sunk in now, are you I don't really think about that | :22:53. | :23:01.
much. I just try and get the work writing music for yourself because | :23:02. | :23:26.
obviously your style is verx particular and yet when | :23:27. | :23:40.
songwriter, is good to try out different things and write different | :23:41. | :23:49.
excitement while ago in Suffolk when all your clothes suddenly | :23:50. | :23:59.
how many people wanted to bty some of your old shirts? Yes, I was. | :24:00. | :24:13.
know you are supporting the East Anglian | :24:14. | :24:31.
the ones that are close to your heart | :24:32. | :24:51.
This is why I do it, Tariq hs the main focal point. I | :24:52. | :25:03.
It has been quite muggy herd as well. The clean`up continues here as | :25:04. | :25:11.
we can see after some torrential downpours. Norfolk was pretty | :25:12. | :25:16.
hit and we still have some heavy showers around. | :25:17. | :25:23.
quite as bad as we have had today. We have had under a downpours | :25:24. | :25:35.
showers where. This is the weather front that has brought | :25:36. | :25:51.
then we had this next line of them and they have | :25:52. | :26:08.
showers becoming more scattdred and less frequent. | :26:09. | :26:25.
light south`westerly wind. We start tomorrow with a similar picture. It | :26:26. | :26:45.
will be quite a scattering of them and they will tend | :26:46. | :27:11.
end of the day and the chance of some sunshine | :27:12. | :27:44.
If you live across the eastern half, | :27:45. | :27:48. |
