Hello. I'm Amanda Goodman.

:00:13.:00:14.

First tonight, two months ahead of the vote

:00:15.:00:16.

on Scottish independence, people living in the town dubbed Lhttle

:00:17.:00:19.

Scotland have voted overwhelmingly to keep the UK intact.

:00:20.:00:22.

A referendum has been held today in Corby, the Northamptonshire town

:00:23.:00:24.

It's the Highland Gathering, first staged in the 1960s

:00:25.:00:34.

to celebrate the townspeople's Scottish heritage.

:00:35.:00:37.

It's been estimated well ovdr half of Corby's population are

:00:38.:00:40.

But they won't be able to take part in the real referendum themselves.

:00:41.:00:47.

I think the Scottish people, if you were born in Scotland, therd is an

:00:48.:00:51.

argument they should get the vote because it will have a bearhng on

:00:52.:00:54.

whether in two years time, if they go to Scotland, whether thex need ID

:00:55.:00:57.

It wasn't supposed to be serious but the Labour Party's

:00:58.:01:02.

top spokeswoman on Scotland turned up,

:01:03.:01:05.

I accept people don't have ` vote here, but they have a voice,

:01:06.:01:12.

and in Scotland we are taken by the fact that people across Britain

:01:13.:01:15.

are taking such an interest in the referendum, that they care about the

:01:16.:01:19.

outcome of it, they actually don't want Scotland, by and large,

:01:20.:01:23.

This has been a Scottish enclave since thd 30s

:01:24.:01:28.

when workers from the Clyde came South to the Corby steel plants.

:01:29.:01:31.

That's four generations of Scottish heritage.

:01:32.:01:35.

I vote we should stay as one country, I am for the union.

:01:36.:01:38.

I think Scotland should be independent.

:01:39.:01:40.

My mother was born in Aberdeen, my father is English, so I am British.

:01:41.:01:46.

In the end, 576 people cast their vote and the result was very clear.

:01:47.:01:52.

The result may be a comfort to the no campaign

:01:53.:02:08.

but there's no guarantee thd verdict of Corby expats will be reflected in

:02:09.:02:11.

Two months is a very long time in politics.

:02:12.:02:22.

Next, questions hanging over the future of a small Suffolk seaport.

:02:23.:02:25.

Campaigners say the harbour at Southwold is being neglected.

:02:26.:02:28.

They believe that, legally, the town should own the harbour

:02:29.:02:31.

But the town council says it doesn't want the responsibility

:02:32.:02:35.

As picture perfect as it can seem, Southwold harbour needs investment.

:02:36.:02:40.

One side of the harbour wall is dilapidated.

:02:41.:02:43.

The caravan park needs updating. Some claim the local

:02:44.:02:46.

District Council, Waveney, is taking rents on this

:02:47.:02:49.

The caravan site has, for many years, been treated as a cash cow.

:02:50.:02:58.

I appreciate they have to find funds to run their services,

:02:59.:03:01.

but they also have to keep the harbour in good repair.

:03:02.:03:04.

Some claim the District Council shouldn't own the land at all.

:03:05.:03:07.

When local government was rdformed in the 70s, they say it should have

:03:08.:03:10.

Waveney District Council adlits that it relies on the income from

:03:11.:03:17.

But Southwold Town Council say they can't afford the liability of taking

:03:18.:03:25.

on the ownership or the leg`l costs that could come with it.

:03:26.:03:28.

There's boat`building, there's fisherman there, and

:03:29.:03:32.

if there was to be an acciddnt, it could possibly cost the town council

:03:33.:03:35.

A six`week consultation on the future

:03:36.:03:53.

The one thing that wasn't up for discussion, though, is

:03:54.:03:58.

Well, we've had sharp showers and even hailstones today.

:03:59.:04:08.

What else is in store? Here's Georgina Burnett.

:04:09.:04:09.

We have hopefully seen the back of those showers

:04:10.:04:13.

David Leadbetter took this picture of where two houses caught

:04:14.:04:18.

And the sky over Bury St Edlunds was said certainly picturesque

:04:19.:04:24.

So, tonight, we're looking at a much fresher night.

:04:25.:04:30.

It will be largely cloudy, but temperatures down to

:04:31.:04:32.

about 12 Celsius, so certainly more comfortable.

:04:33.:04:34.

And a fine day to come tomorrow. Plenty of sunny spells around.

:04:35.:04:39.

As we head into the afternoon, a bit more in the way of cloud,

:04:40.:04:42.

but it should still be quitd a nice end to the day with

:04:43.:04:44.

a south`westerly breeze but nothing to

:04:45.:04:46.

Tuesday, patchy rain returns, and Wednesday,

:04:47.:04:51.

probably some more showers as well, but those temperatures rise as we

:04:52.:04:54.

From all the team here in Norwich, goodnight.

:04:55.:05:09.

Good evening. A fine night ahead. A few showers are lingering across

:05:10.:05:18.

eastern England and eastern Scotland. They should fade away into

:05:19.:05:22.

the small hours. There will be clear skies and it will be a fresher night

:05:23.:05:28.

and last night. Temperatures will slide down into the mid-teens and

:05:29.:05:33.

lower. A decent start to the new week. The emphasis really is on

:05:34.:05:38.

start because, once the morning gets under way, wetter and windier

:05:39.:05:42.

weather. To work its way into Northern Ireland probably reaching

:05:43.:05:46.

most part by the end of the rush-hour and pushing into western

:05:47.:05:50.

Scotland by lunchtime. The same weather system will also see the sky

:05:51.:05:55.

is greying across the south-west of

:05:56.:05:56.
